I was happy with the sampler set. It was fun to watch him jam like that. He played a tad bit of Darling Nicki, which was fun because he said "I can't do that song, I'm in Rehab." It was fun. He also jammed out to Nasty Girl and the crowd went wild, it was all about getting the crowd hype and possibly giving the band a tad break before the finale. The March 31st show was completely amazing he played alot that night, so the sampler fit in quite well. All in all, I think it is harmless fun.

If it was a 3 hour show, I might be more forgiving. Since Prince was singing for maybe an hour and a half...no. Much lesser artists his age or older play longer shows for cheaper ticket prices(U2, Springsteen, Sting/Police, etc). 6 tickets to see U2 on the floor with GA seating no worse than row 22 if you show up 30 min early will set you back $330. It was $324 for one ticket in the VIP section without a table for Prince. Yes, Prince is better than U2...but for this kind of money...he better be willin' 2 do the work. If you read my reviews of the show, you know I love them all, but if you read any of my opinions, I'm not going to kiss Prince's ass all the time, and I'm not going to say he was horrible like Bart Van Halen would...I'm just going to be honest.

I'm sure some of you would be happy to pay Prince $500 to watch him play a tape as the entire concert. Since he keeps saying "real music by real musicians," I'd like him to have that be the entire show.

Miles Davis, James Brown, John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, U2, etc all could have taken this easy way out, but did not. Could you imagine a musician like Miles Davis playing over a tape loop? Prince is every bit the true musician that Miles was, but crap like this makes him look like a spoiled diva. The truth is that the concerts were short and amazing for the most part. Prince is playing and singing for about an hour and a half to an hour and forty minutes. You can't count the 20 minutes or so he is backtage changing clothes while Shelby or one of the other background singers is singing. And you can't really count when he plays a song like Mountains, which sounds great, but Prince is not really singing much.

Bottom line: Great show, but should be at least two hours of Prince singing Prince songs, and singing over over a backing tape may be great for you non-musicians on here, but as a songwriter, and friend of many musicians, I have asked over 10 real artists about how they would feel to see this karaoke section, and not one said it was a good idea. Now if I asked somebody who wanted to go to the Prince concert to look at his outfits and what his hair looked like...well that person is at the show for the wrong reasons anyway...

I agree. If he comes to Sydney and does that sampler set as an encore, I'll probably be going walking.

Wow,a TINY percentage of a 2 hour(approx) show with a different twist and people are never happy...................relax and enjoy and then take in the other 105 mins of "real music" besides what concern is it why OTHER people go to oncerts, just check YO'SELF....

Unlike maybe stillwaiting, I think that Prince concerts are truly amazing. Just that the sampler set is very embarrasing to me.

Unlike maybe stillwaiting, I think that Prince concerts are truly amazing. Just that the sampler set is very embarrasing to me.

I left glowing reviews of the concerts on here, but if I don't totally kiss Prince's ass and tell how great it is to hear Lelah Hathaway sing "April" instead of Prince, then I am suddenly more of a hater than Bart Van Halen, who hasn't liked any Prince concert since the Lovesexy Tour.

I just don't fucking understand you people. I love Prince as much or even more than most of you

and have more knowledge about him than most of you, but I am not a fam, I'm a person with strong intelligent opinions. (Laugh it up on someone calling themselves intelligent!)

If Prince does great, I'm the first to give him props.

Fact is, his shows are awesome, but all 6 Carolina shows were right at the 2 hour mark, and if you take away the time Shelby and Others were singing with Prince backstage, it was an hour and half to an hour and 45 min. For these prices, that is weak...

If he was playing for 3 hours, the sampler crap would be easy to forgive, but in a short show, he should not waste the time...

Despite my complaints, overall it was a fantastic fucking show despite the few issues. Hell, he played Shh a few nights, and Anotherloverholenyohead a few nights...

But since my reviews did not say he reinvented music, I must have had a bad time. Read between the lines people...I have the balls to tell the truth. I spend $1300 on tickets to 6 shows, and for the most part had a blast. I'm not going to say it was perfect. That would be a lie. Older artists play 3 hour or longer shows for less money...granted, I think every artist is lesser than Prince, so it doesn't really matter. But when someone as weak as Springsteen plays 4 hours, I am jealous of what joys a BS fanatic must feel. I saw him once, but sitting through 4 hours of Bruce B sides, outtakes, etc is torture when you only like a few of his songs.

There's one mistake and one lie in that sentence.

You should do P.R. with that type of glowing review! This reads like you may have wanted to have a good time but were too focused on picking out everything you didn't like. Not once did you refer to any part of the show you enjoyed. Not questioning if you did or did not truly enjoy yourself but if all you can write about is the negative parts then that what people will be reading from you. a glowing review usually highlights what was exceptional more and not what was not less.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Damn Bart! Can't anyone get your name right?! Lol! It's not hard!

And let's see...the lie would be that you last enjoyed the Gold shows/tour and not Lovesexy. Am I close?

look, lets agree that if given the choice between a jaw dropping version of say SOTT or When Doves Cry vs the sampler set I am pretty damn 100% sure we'd all go for the single song. Hope he does drop this and those lame covers - he has enough of his own funk jams to get people up on stage and make an ass of themselves to!!.
