Really ticked off that Stokley's Mic stopped working and they couldn't fix it by the end of their set. Especially after bragging them up in another thread. Those things happen, though. Especially when you're the opening act and you're at the mercy of another artist's soundman and crew.

No, I'll rewrite it. It was mostly a medley at the piano with a couple of full songs thrown in.

No tourbook... it was the only merchandise that I planned to buy and I headed straight to the merchandise tables when the doors opened, only for them to tell me that there are NO tourbooks for this particular tour.

As for the concert, this was my very first Prince concert.... I don't know how it ranks to others who have seen numerous shows over the years... but, I thought it was AMAZING!!! Almost 3 hours of music, a huge party where the whole place was dancing, killer musicianship, showmanship, lighting, sound... seeing it in person as opposed to video has really opened my eyes!!! Just great!!!

I also upgraded my seats from Section 8 to Section 4 when I got to the venue, which is the best thing I could have done...by the last hour and a half, I and others were allowed to stand by the VIP section right at the arrow. And people were right, he spent most of the time facing the arrow and hanging out around that piano. It was worth paying the extra $80 to upgrade...I even made eye contact with the man during the times he walked down the arrow.

The place was also PACKED!!! I was suprised--I kept quiet about it, but I was in the camp of people who thought the tickets were too high. And combined with the short notice, this being SC and the recession, I expected there to be many empty seats and a half empty arena...a disaster. But no, Prince had a nice crowd. I don't know if it sold out or not...but, it was pretty full.

And after initially thinking the $199 was too much for one ticket (my wife and I recently purchased 2 seventh row tickets to see Rush in Greenville that totaled $201)...I now understand... I get it. Now, I wanna go do it again. And I would pay that amount again.

I love to read about someone's first time. Even though my first concert wasn't so long ago (so the flashback isn't too difficult), you read someone's story and you can totally relive your first time. The energy is immediate, and then, you are only a few songs in and you're like, "what have I been missing?...this guy is phenomenal" His talent, coupled with the most amazing, diverse group of fans lends itself to one heck of a great party!

After paying NYC prices, those Carolina prices look pretty good, but, I understand that in this economy concert tickets aren't in everyone's budget. Still, even in tough times, you owe yourself a little pleasure. You could buy the least expensive ticket at a Prince concert and still have an amazing time. You only need a floor seat if, like me, you have "dance convulsions" and run the risk of getting sued for assaulting someone with your uncontrollable gyrations. I hope you go again no matter where you sit.

I saw two of the MSG shows this year and I feel like each one was fresh. I saw Lady Gaga three times this past year and I was bored after the first (amazing) show. I don't have the experience that many of the fans here do, however, I feel like you could go to every concert on a Prince tour and get a different show than the time before. If you do a concert with a bunch of dancers and choreography you have to stick to the script. Where Prince has a stage full of musicians, I feel like his shows are loosely choreographed and the "jam session" could go in as many directions as his symbol. Again, my experience is limited (which is why I want to hop on a plane and prove my theory Weds night!). I'm still eating Ramen, however, from my MSG expenditures so I think my Carolina trip is just a dream. Still, I am excited by your excitement and I hope you tell your friends so that a few more people can join the "religion!"

Your review just put a big smile on my face!! biggrin It always makes me happy when someone who sees Prince live for the first time is so enthusiastic about the experience!!! And it is great to read over and over again how people understand what "all the fuzz" is about, once they have seen Prince in concert! biggrin Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Mar. 30th will be my first concert also. I can't wait to share my experiance. I've waited years to see this guy in concert. I became a true Prince fan around the age of 15. I am now a few months from 25 and I still love his music. From Dirty Mind to Colonized Mind (Cover of course but it still sounds good.) Momma can't stop me now...

Well, I have to admit this was my first Prince concert, and I didn't leave disappointed. I regret having never been to one before. I sit here typing this, my eardrums still throbbing in my head! The set list was great, only wish there were a few more "complete" songs performed. We ended up with great seats--we started in the top row of the arena. The wife had to go to the bathroom about 30 minutes before the show. Returning into the arena, an usher was standing there, handing out tickets to better seats to those sitting in the stratosphere. So, we went from the rafters to the 22nd row from the floor.

I managed some decent photos, most having been taken from one of the "jumbo trons" in the arena. My phone camera didn't perform too well in the given conditions. I will post shortly.

Ha ha!! Thanks. It was really unbelievable... I am already contemplating squeezing in another Carolina show. Since I had the experience of the floor seats and being super close to the stage, I'd probably be getting less expensive seats.... I didn't get the full effect of the symbol stage from the floor. So, I'd love to see it from a higher vantage point.

I'm a musician and that's normally my focus, the band and musicianship--I don't party or dance... but, last night!!! Man!!! smile
