Prince concert moves indoors to InterContinental Hotel

Prince concert moves indoors to InterContinental Hotel

More on this story

http://www.dallasnews.com/entertainment/music/headlines/20110131-prince-concert-moves-indoors-to-intercontinental-hotel.ece

The high-dollar soiree featuring Prince scheduled for Friday night at the old Reunion Arena site has moved. The concert, dubbed theEvent by organizers, will move to the InterContinental Dallas at 15201 Dallas Parkway. The show, which also is scheduled to feature Dallas’ Erykah Badu and silent and live auctions to benefit the Goss-Michael Foundation, was originally scheduled for a "tent complex" off Reunion Boulevard.

The press release says that the newly remodeled hotel "will offer better sound, production and traffic access for all event guests."

The press release makes no mention of the impending weather, which forecasts freezing temperatures in the later in the week. The price for admission is still $1,500 for a single ticket that "includes general admission, open bar and food stations."

Given the new venue, do you think he'll be playing "The Continental?"

Maybe a medley of The Continental and International Lover?

I thought he might, I was looking at the site and I was thinking, why do this out here why not do it in this hotel right next to the site?

Maybe the organizers hoped to save money by holding it outside. If it's going to be freezing as currently predicted, it would have cost a lot more to keep the tent "climate controlled."

I'm wondering when the ticket holders will get an official notification of the change in venue. I bought tickets online and haven't received a notice, but I called the number and they confirmed that the event has been moved. I feel sorry for anyone who shows up at the former Reunion Arena on Friday night and finds no tent there.

That would be a very risky endeavor given the price of the tickets. I certainly don't want to get kicked out of the show before Prince does his set. I moved to Dallas in 2005 and this is the first time Prince has visited since I moved here.

I was thinking today. I am glad the IRS did not have its act together or I would have gotten my return on this past Friday and I would have gone. So now I have to wait another few weeks. So I will just save that little bit of money.

No, I can tell you right now that it will be the most amazing Prince concert ever, thus justifying my impulsive and expensive ticket purchase. If you want an honest answer, you'll have to ask my wife.

I'll wait for Vegas or LA to actually pay a whole lot less for tix, air, and hotel. I'd only go to this show in Dallas on a hookup. My chances are exponentially better now that it's moved to the Intercontinental. whistling

For some reason, I don't see too many people paying that kind of money to go to this.

I expect most of the people there will be out-of-towners here from the Super Bowl who have only a casual interest in Prince but can afford the expensive tickets. But he does have plenty of fans here and not all of us can take the time to fly to New York or Europe for his next show. I haven't gotten to see him live since the Lovesexy Tour and I was a teenager at the time.

Most folks who are coming for the Superbowl could care less about a Prince concert. There will be many other high profile events with celebs that would appeal to the Superbowl type crowd and at a bargain price compared to this. This event was definitely not well-planned with regards to the potential audience. Like it or not, Prince is only relevant to us, Prince fans, during a Superbowl. This shit has fiasco written all over it, at least for the foundation. Prince gon' get his money regardless. shrug

You may be right, but as long as they don't cancel the concert, I'll be happy. We can have a nice private event for the three or four Prince fans who show up.

Agreed thumbs up! But I wouldn't be surprised if they did cancel based on low ticket sales shake

Depends on their contracts with the hotel and the performers. If they are obligated to pay the hotel, Erykah, and Prince whether they hold the concert or not, then they might lose more money by canceling than they would by just holding the concert, unless they are planning to stiff everyone who paid for tickets. Knowing Prince, as you've said, he will probably get paid either way. And they better refund my money if they cancel the concert.

In any case, this story suggests that they are in fact selling a lot of tickets, at least for the more expensive seats:

lol Well, ummmm, no one associated with the event would ever admit it's not selling. Their whole point in talking to the media is to drum up the impression that it's sold out and in demand. Besides, I got from that article that there's a lot of uncertainty about who's doing what. Not a good sign.

Also, if they don't have the money from ticket sales they won't have it to pay him unless George Michael goes into his own pocket which I don't see him doing. Sure Prince could sue them and all but it still doesn't guarantee he'll get anything. I think this is really Kenny's thing otherwise they coulda just hired George to do a show at no cost to his own foundation. That just didn't make sense to me. Why hire Prince for $1 million+ when you could get George at no cost. confuse

Hey, I hope everything goes off as planned and that he does a stellar show and the foundation makes lotsa money. BUT, I've been around Princey pie and his shenanigans long enough to know ain't nothing promised until he hits the stage. cool
