Prince Performing Benefit For Tavis Smiley's State of the Black Union 2009 (Updated)

As mentioned in a New Yorker profile last year, media personality Tavis Smiley's State of the Black Union seminar will be hitting the Los Angeles Convention Center on February 28 and none other than PRINCE will be appearing as a special musical guest.

More details as they become available, but for more information on the State of the Black Union event, check out Tavis Smiley's web site:

http://www.tavistalks.com...lack-union

UPDATE: Prince's performance will be a benefit *FOR* Smiley's event, not *AT* the event...

and...according to DrFunkenberry.com, the show will be at the Conga Room In L.A. at the Nokia Center. The show is scheduled to start at 8 P.M. Tix will be $300 (seated) and $150 (standing room general admission) and there is a 4 ticket limit....

These were the details I last heard:

PRINCE CONCERT
The FORUM
3900 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood, CA 90305
TIME: 8:00 P.M. to 10:00 P. M.
Tickets: $TBD

Not surprising that Prince will support his friend Tavis... but interesting since the State of the Black Union events usually focus on politics and public policy, neither of which line up with Prince's recent apolitical stances.

He knows what's up.
I might go to the SOBU, I just told my dad, and he's considering it. I didn't mention P, though. lol
I need to figure out the details on that, first.
I'd be happy just to go to Tavis' forum, though. I wonder whose gonna be there? Cornell West, please. God, Please.

Yes this is the info for the concert on Saturday night... as part of the SOBU events. While the SOBU is taking place at the LA Convention Center, the concert was planned for The Forum in the evening. That was the info as provided as of mid-January.

Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
eye don't feel so sad
Stay right here

you're absolutely correct he does have apolitical stances which may clash with him performing on this show...should prove to be interesting

Is there anyone on this site, in this forum, that lives near Orange County, CA? My Prince partner moved away and I would hate to go alone to these concerts that are so nearby. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks.

Don't know much about SOBU but as I understand it, as a jw he's against voting not necessarily politics. On the contrary he seems to have stronger than ever views on political issues (still confused views, but strongly confused), especially on race etc.

you're absolutely correct he does have apolitical stances which may clash with him performing on this show...should prove to be interesting

Princemay not vote but I dont see him as apolitical. The rainbow children is full of race and other issues. Not voting for Prince is a belief that a party cannot resolve those issues-that man is being placed before God. Don't agree with it but I feel that is where Prince is coming from

This is Prince at his most hypocritical best!!!!! He doesnt vote due 2 his JW beleifs, yet hes performing at a political, and even racial, event!!!! In my mind, if hes doing something like this, then he might just as well go all out and vote!!!!

It just makes me wonder, just how much he is being paid for this event, cos after all, the only REAL God in his life is the Almighty Dollar!!!!

Hey Prince!!! Would Jesus do something like this??? I doubt it!!!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin
