Hates his fans?

Now that the concerts over, have any of you changed your minds or feelings about Prince and the way he feels towards his fans?

You pays your money.....

It's all about the music. Who cares what he thinks about his fans. Aslong as you like his music, that's all that matters, surely?

He has played 21 shows on the trot at £30 a ticket and played probably 12-15 aftershows at £25 where you dont have to go searching for him, you walk 20 yards...

For 55 pounds a got to see Prince play for 4 hours, live, and on the last night an incredible 5 hours. Astonishing.

I can honestly say that for that money I have been given some of the best nights of my life, something I will cherish forever.

What is there to hate exactly?

Absolutely. Every fan/fanatic of an artist has their little gripes with not having everything their way. There are some down sides to Prince's attitude to making all his music accessable to the public, but I've gotta say after these 21 nights I just feel really blessed. I don't feel ripped off in the slightest, which is a lot more than I can say for some of my other fav. artists.

Who said he hates his fans?

I think if the original poster had seen his reactions to the crowd through the shows, and *especially* the final night, then the question would have no need to be asked, as the answer is obvious...

Outside the aftershow on Friday there was one guy leaving before he even came on. He shouted out how much Prince hates his fans because they'd got in there and had to wait for 2 hours and still no show. I did laugh. Had he never been to an aftershow before or at least spoken to anyone inside who had? Prince must have come on less than 15 minutes later.

What a complete waste of an aftershow ticket. I expect he was another one of those Sony BMG tossers who didn't care, so I don't know what his statement about "fans" was about.

Prince could have done ONE night at Wembley Stadium AND charged up to £150 per ticket and walked away with enough money in his pocket. Instead he chose to do 21 nights in a smaller venue at £31.21 a pop so we could all see a decent show plus throw in a copy of his latest album. On top of that he made all of the aftershows accessible to his fans (rather than a select few) at £25 a time. Hardly the actions of a man who hates his fans.

Not just Manuela - supposedly Mayte was at a gig too when her mum gave a tape of her dancing to someone in band. Mayte was then apparently invited backstage and the rest, as they say, is history smile

Not that most fans will ever get that lucky!

I do get the impression he genuinely enjoyed this tour - he certainly gave his fans plenty to smile about at all the main/aftershows I was at - along with lots of eye contact and smiles for all within range of his purpleness.

Wasn't it during the Chris Rock interview that he said he doesn't like the term fan and he thinks of us as friends? Must get it out of my collection and have a look.

Reckon he tries his best to take care of us and maintain his showbiz mystique at the same time. NPGMC downloads and great seats a few years back. £31.21 for a show, an album and good views. He's cool.

ok ok...we all know prince loves his fams...at least thats what we all think right??

im sure he likes us attending his gigs and whatever but if U tried 2 make contact with him at an airport r his hotels its a different story completely.
the man is quite shy in reality n does not like 2 be hounded by his fams outside the dorchester 4 instance.

i was at that hotel 1 day 2 meet a friend and the lobby was swarmed with fams waiting 2 see him as his car was parked right outside and his driver was there in a purple suit and the security was really tight.
next thing is prince walks by the bar surrounded by 10 burly guys and he just gave a quick wave and that was it.

sure he loves us....he just doesnt have time 2 meet each n every fam n i would say that its his security that make him seem like he hates his fams when he does not.

with the NPGMC closing down the way it did we all felt cheated in a way cause all he had 2 do was change the name of it 2 paisley park music club r 1800 new funk music club r even 3121.com and have the site remin the way it did,
we all would agree...even the hardcore that his new website is rubbish and borring 2 say the least and that the very least he could do is put the link 4 the downloads that we bought in the past back up so we can listen 2 r music again.
im not fussed about the dosh but i can no longer play some of my favouite prince music such as slaughterhouse r chocolate invasion...even the war is gone n im cryin cause i loved the feel of that track n u just cannot buy this kinda stuff n ur wrecka stow.

PLEASE PLEASE PRINCE PUT THAT LINK BACK ON UR NEW WEBSITE....WE NEED THE FUNK....that we already paid 4!!!!!

peace n love,
WOLFY razz

Well I just understood that from the start with Prince re: contact outside of concerts. See, Michael Jackson openly encourages it and seems to love circling around hotels until more people show up to cause a scene when he arrives at places (I know that from first hand experience on several occasions). Then he teases you and sends staff out to hint that he'll come out and meet people but never does in the middle of winter. That's a sign I take of someone who has no respect for his fans but loves to pretend he does.

It never even occurred to me to try and see/meet Prince any time when he wasn't making a public appearance.

highfive
your right about that.
when the rolling stones toured tickets were £150 for lower tier and £100 for upper tier
prince could have easily done the same if he had wanted to.

Well, I was initially disgusted that he gave the album away 4 free with the paper, and we in the States have 2 pay? I was infuriated, at first. But last night I was doing some deep soul searching, I don't know what made me look at 3121.com, much 2 my surprise it said 'NPGMC CLUB MEMBERS' so I clicked on, the username and password was reinstated, and there was video footage of '21 Nights In London', full versions of 'Joy In Repetition' and 'Another Lover', it was absolutely spectacular! And I'm a Prince fan who gets pissed when he pulls crap, so I thought this was on point. I needed it too, that video helped me more than Prince could ever imagine. Then, surfing the 3121.com site I came across a recent Chuck D and Professor Griff interview (from rap pioneers Public Enemy) and a Prince live in London review by none other than Brian May, genius guitarist of Queen! I then felt I had 2 download 'Planet Earth' 'cause it's finally on iTunes, and I been listening 2 Prince 4 years, it's actually quite good, but once again it's only one fourth of the brilliant double disc we all know he's capable of. And no, I don't think he hates us, but we won't always get this lucky.

i agree with you i would never think of going to a hotel to see prince as he seems more private/shy but after seeing what happens when michael jackson is staying at a hotel he actually encourages it and appears to loves the crazyness he causes examples of this buying pizza for everyone which has happened on numerous occasions, throwing things from the windows and the general waving/flashing lights at the people outside but i think both of them love their fans even though they react in completely different ways to them its strange neutral

I went to 2 aftershows, first one he totally cancelled on 11/08 when he went out with Pdiddy & all, 2nd he stayed backstage on 31/08 and sent out the NPG to comatose me, so I can't say i'm overly impressed by his performances at the aftershow, what Prince didn't realise is that most fans only get 1 or 2 chances to see him on a tour, we don't all live near/in London, so he should make the effort and play if fans pay and turn up to watch him.

That doesn't mean I hate him, just I was disappointed that the 2 afterhows I attended he didn't play/show up, he should have scheduled half the aftershows and played at them all.

He cannot hate his fans coz so far, on every occasion I have been at the indigo gates after the show, he has come over 2 either talk 2 us or put his hand out 2 us. His car was parked basically inside the venue n he came all the way out 2 do that. If he even "didn't really like us" he wouldn't have bothered. & he certianly didn't have 2!

I definitely don't think he hates the fans.

There were low points when I almost gave up being a fam because of what I considered to be his comtempt for us (the "Chaos & Disorder" album and the handling of his son's death) but on reflection I felt these had more to do with his perceptions of his record company & the media.

I don't think someone who hates their fans plays as frequently and for such long durations as he does. Hell, on one night he wasn't doing an aftershow, didn't he go and tell some of the people waiting in the queue? respect for that.
And at several of the aftershows I went to, he was happy to put his hand out into the audience to be touched.

For someone who's supposed to be reclusive, that dudes never off the telly somewhere in the world!

One things for sure, highs or lows, its NEVER dull being a Prince fam.

Well I just wanted to ask because I have heard so much negativity towards Prince's descision to sue different sites, like youtube and housequake and people saying that he hates his fans, I never thought that! I live in the U.S. and could not see the o2 concert, but have been a fan since the 80's and I knew once people saw him up close and personal, you would know he really loves his fans. biggrin and you can FEEL it.

I am surprised that anyone actually put this as a post..... Prince does not hate his fans (or friends as he calls them). He came to London and gave us a month and a half of entertainment and great music..... every performance was outstanding, and well worth the money (even if over the odds was paid for front rows... which i did on several occassions). You only have to watch his face during performances to see how much he enjoys the music and sharing his, and his bands talents with everyone....

It is true that some people were dissappointed about the aftershows, but the man is only human and I think we forget that. He cannot be expected to perform that many shows giving it everything and then all the aftershows as well. He likes people to experience the music whether it is from him, his band or new talent and that was the purpose of the aftershow; it was a place to continue to party with fans and musicians.

I would have thought that people who pay attention to Prince know that he is not a person who hates.....

This is s ludicrous statement - based on nothing.

Prince does not hate his fans. He has just given us 21 nights of pure joy, charging only £31.21 a ticket and giving us all a free album.

He was having a ball on stage and loved the reactions he was getting from us in the audience. The interaction between Prince and his audience is second to none. There is a great two way respect and lots and lots of love. heart
so, what is the answer 2 the question of U
