Why was John and his drumkit behind a perspex screen at the gigs ? (I could see he was a bit sweaty - who would'nt be)

Maybe Prince was tired of slipping on his sweat ?

Maybe he is related to Dr. Hannibal Lecter )) ?

Maybe he kept pinching Candy's bum in rehearsal so they had to stop him ?

I am guessing that the guy looses a stick or two as he is moving them around so quick.

I did see a stick flying backwards at great speed during one of the London concerts.

I think the screen is for the safety of the band and audience.

I heard it was because the stages were smaller than usual and the brass section and bass were so near to the drumkit, it was to stop sound distortion between the instruments.

Yup, usually used to shield the Umphh of the drums from other mikes so that you only get the sound through the drum microphones...

Makes mixing a lot easier, I guess.

Maybe it just looks cool.

Its 4 the drumsound, thats y the drums sounds so real/natural.

I thought it was to stop distortion of the sound.

On Monday John Blackwell came on stage after the concert had ended , initially there was a queue of people asking him stuff and he was politeness personified , what a lovely genuine man !

By the time I got to speak to him , there were only a few left around the stage , I shook his hand and said "thank you
it was a great concert , you are a great band , one of his best" , I was staggered when he said to me he thought he had not been at his best that night , "you`re kidding "I said , "I saw you Thursday and I thought you were as good as then" , he told me he thought his best performance was Thursday and the aftershow on Saturday , he thought the Monday performance was marred by his tiredness after so many concerts in a few days.

I read the stuff the US fans posted about how good he was , and on the first night I was staggered at how right they were.Having spoken to him I was touched by how genuine and nice he was.

Yup, definitely to isolate the drums, one of the reasons the sound is so good (esp. the drums, so clean!) - hehe, to protect the band and audience? lol!
