Maybe someone can keep a master setlist database

It would be interesting if someone kept a master setlist database from these shows and at the end, we could compare what songs were played and how many times.

When Bruce Springsteen did his E Street Band comeback tour in 1998 - 99, at the end of the tour we calculated that Bruce had done over 100 different songs. He had a basic set of songs that were played each night, and about 15% - 20% of the show was different. Over the course of several months, he played almost every song he'd ever written.

I wonder if Prince will do this?

Good idea. Given he's rehearsed 150 songs, we haven't seen a fraction of them yet.

Friday 3 August

When The Saints Go Marching In
Satisfied
Cream
U Got The Look
Musicology
Play That Funky Music
What A Wonderful World
Joy In Repetition
Anotherloverholenyohead
Peach
Lolita
Black Sweat
I Feel For You
Controversy
Kiss
Crazy
---
Purple Rain
---
Let's Go Crazy
----
Take Me With U
Guitar

In summary: Not a huge change from the opening night, although Let’s Go Crazy was expanded into a much longer funk workout. The gaps between encores were longer too. In fact, after Let’s Go Crazy, Prince disappeared for so long there was serious booing from the crowd before he re-emerged for Take Me With U. Evidently, people had heard about the “secret” encore, and weren’t willing to file for the exits until they’d got their money’s worth.

Saturday 4 August

Let's Go Grazy
Take Me With U
Guitar
Shhh!
Musicology
Prince And The Band
Pass The Peas
Play That Funky Music
Sexy Dancer/Le Freak
I Feel For You
Controversy
What A Wonderful World
Cream
U Got The Look
If I Was Your Girlfriend
Pink Cashmere
Lolita
Black Sweat
Kiss
Purple Rain
-----
Little Red Corvette
Raspberry Beret
Sometimes It Snows In April
-----
Crazy
Nothing Compares 2 U

In summary: Probably the least crowd-pleasing setlist so far – following Pink Cashmere with Lolita was pushing his luck with casual fans - although, paradoxically, the crowd reaction was by far the best (maybe because it was Saturday night). Let’s Go Crazy worked much better as a curtain-raiser than Purple Rain, and Nothing Compares 2 U was a masterful choice of set closer. But still no 1999 – at the former Millennium Dome?

The "booing" on friday in my opinion was for the drunken freak that tried to get on the box, where prince is brought in and out. There was a little fight then between security, the freak and (if I saw it correctly) even the musicians (???). And at that moment, people began booing on the drunken freak. There even was the mexican wave long after concert ended and people tried 2 get him back in for a long time. Friday was great, Saturday was even greater - I had so much fun !!!

yes that would b a great thing 2 do as well as all songs done in vegas..
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Tuesday 7 August.

Little Red Corvette
Raspberry Beret
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
Alphabet Street
Sometimes It Snows In April
Cream
You Got The Look
Musicology
Pass The Peas
Give It 2 Me
I Feel For You
Controversy
Housequake
Wonderful world
Somewhere Here On Earth
Diamonds & Pearls
Beautiful Ones
How Come You Don't Call
Condition Of The Heart
Do Me Baby
I Wanna Be Your Lover
If I Was your Girlfriend
Black Sweat
Kiss
Purple Rain

Let's Go Crazy
Take Me With You
Guitar

Get On The Boat

In summary: Seems like he’s found an extra gear: this was generally thought to be the best show so far, thanks the crowd pleasing set list and stunning opening. After warming up the crowd with footage of DMSR, he reeled off the first four numbers, some of his very greatest hits, solo. Still not sure Guitar merits a place in the encore though.

In summary: No massive changes, apart from beginning the encore in the same way as he kicked off the whole show three days earlier: knocking off the big hits solo.

The Beautiful Ones/Diamonds and Pearls/Strange Relationship

Do Me, Baby
I Wanna Be Your Lover

A Love Bizarre

In summary: From half way it was all about the hits, switching between solo and full band for the encore before diving into a synth medley then coming up for air with a brief solo run at the piano. He's really having fun with that back catalogue

Prince at the O2
As part of Prince month on Q4music we're reporting from every night of his 21-date residency at London's O2. Here's what he played on Tuesday 14 August.

1999
Musicology
Cream
U Got The Look
Shhh
Take Me With U
Guitar
Somewhere Here On Earth
7
Forever In My Life
If I Was Your Girlfriend
Black Sweat
Kiss
Purple Rain
Alphabet Street
I Feel For You
Controversy/Housequake
Let's Go Crazy

Crazy
Nothing Compares 2 U

In summary: Coming in at just over an hour and forty minutes, this was one of the shorter sets so far but it hardly mattered given the second half was wall-to-wall classics and he dropped the less well known but just-as-terrific 7 in early on. During the aftershow he continued his love for Amy Winehouse, covering Love Is A Losing Game.

Thanks y'all. If people will post accurate setlists from each night - ON THIS THREAD, PLEASE! - I'll put together a database and we'll figure out how many different songs were played; what was played the most; etc.

If I forget, someone remind me!

The Q4 set lists are accurate except the first 2 concerts. Lollita was missing from the first show and Down by the riverside is listed as when the saints go marching in. Compared them to the housequake list and they match for the last few shows. But if you don't think their accurate then i'll stop and won't bother with prince.org again.

Purple Rain

Let’s go Crazy
I Feel 4 U
Controversy/Housequake

The verdict
Little Red Corvette and Raspberry Beret return to the set, although they're now part of a solo piano medley. Tonight was also notable for a rare Prince bass solo during Black Sweat - though punters who managed to get into the aftershow also witnessed the great man duetting with woman-of-the-moment MIA, belting out ferocious versions of Free and Sophisticated Lady.

Saturday 19 August

What A Wonderful World L
Purple Rain
****
Kiss
Let's Go Crazy

The verdict
The solo medleys are a great idea in theory but, in practice, hearing just a brief snippet of When Doves Cry is infuriating: you're left craving the whole track. Once again, the real surprises came at the aftershow party, where Prince - who suddenly seems keen to demonstrate his keyboard chops at every opportunity - sat down to do is best Stevie Wonder impression on the tracks Superstition and Higher Ground. Where does he get the energy?

Nothing Compares 2U

The verdict
Prince's sets are defintely getting shorter, even as his after-show performances get longer. Perhaps the backstage oxygen bar needs re-stocking.
Still, 1999 is spot on as a party-starting curtain-raiser (especially followed by a riotous Rolling Stones instrumental) and the solo medleys are still wildly entertaining - even if playing only one verse of When Doves Cry and Sign O' The Times is a tease too far. One last point: this was the best performance of Purple Rain so far, starting out solo with the full band joining in only at the end. Powerful stuff.

Saturday 25 August

Planet Earth

Black Sweat

Purple Rain

I Feel 4 U
Controversy/Housequake
***
Crazy
Nothing Compares 2 U

The verdict
Just the one medley tonight.. and nice to see Prince is still willing to try out new covers: tonight we get The Beatles' The Long And Winding Road, which forms a neat counterpoint to the earlier Stones snippet.

Q4 doesn't post the list till the next day. So when he plays on weekends they post it on Monday (late this week). If you want a quicker post on the weekends check out Housequake using kindy's link several posts above.

Just a thought....I would love it to be at any of these shows, but after seeing the setlists are all looking pretty much the same with some new songs added her and their. And the setlist moved around. And why nothing from Planet Earth. I jsut figured with 150 songs apparently ready to go, why not mix it up more. Especially knowing people are going to see more then one show.

Nothing Compares 2 U

The verdict: Although Prince shows no sign of flagging, the sets are now down to the 90 minute mark, with some of the bigger hits run through at the piano (Diamonds & Pearls/The Beautiful/Little Red Corvette/Raspberry Beret) or synth (Sign’O’The Times/Alphabet Street/Erotic City/When Doves Cry/I Wanne Be Your Lover). Nice to see him drawing on vintage tracks from his earlier years for the encore though.
