) But instead of sitting down to a good movie, I found my viewing of pre-recorded Heroes and My Names is Earl interupted by sudden desires to go to the computer room and check what the latest goings on were at Greenwich. Mil, you wrecked my Saturday! you think yours is bad Im at work with a bunch of very nice people this is making my night worse  I remember the blow holes and so does my daughter !!!!! thanks for the updates hopefully you will get to see him at the ASP!!!

I wrote a really long aftershow post but it seems to have vanished so ill write it again.
Aftershow KICKED ASS. I was less than 4 metres from the stage, and after an hour of classic funk jams (lots of prince and prince affiliates, james brown, zapp, old skool electro and hiphop like jj fad, run dmc, epmd), the curtains open! Its NIKKA with her band! And ill be fucking damned if she aint the baddest female performer on the planet! She was fucking amazing! Tore it up!!!!! To shreds! Insanely tight band too! I don't know if ne1 else saw the hohner 2 the side of the stage.....sho nuff after 15 mins or so out comes PRINCE! He doesn't say a word but plays some guitar with nikka and her band....and then bizarrely out comes killa kela and starts beatboxing with prince and nikka.....he wasn't that great and prince gave us this look lol that said it all. Anyway prince didn't stay for too long.....but then.....out comes maceo and princes horn section!!!! They ripped it big time, and then out comes marva and shelby and this turns into the biggest stankiest funk fest on earth!! Fucking sick. I've got no words to describe how awesome Nikka is. I wasn't too familiar with her b4 to be honest, but she has gained a new fan for sure. I can't understand why she aint massively famous? Her vocals were outstanding and she rocks a crowd like freddie mercury reincarnated! Anyhoo the band finished about 20 minutes ago and now there's a DJ playing again but the music has dropped in standard. No offence to the madonna fans but when holiday started playing I figured it was time to hit the bar, where I am right now. Now they are playing some generic dance music that is fairly boring but there's not many ppl left in this place now. Fucking awesome aftershow. Can't wait for next week!!!!! Good for Prince to show his face, he most certainly didn't owe anyone shit after the amazing main performance he gave. Nikkas performance made it worth the aftershow ticket price alone, plus being just a few metres from Prince busting some guitar (even if only for a few minutes) was incredible. 1 of the best nights of my life!!! |

After I posted that last message the music got a lot better. I wandered over to the decks to watch the beautiful DJ Rashida in action. All of a sudden a massive crowd gather around a door with security in front of it. The crowd gets bigger, security ushers everyone back....the door opens and out comes Prince! He walks over to Rashida and says something to her while security holds off the screaming crowd, then they take round to another door.
Next thing I know a crowd has formed around a different door, lol, so I guess Prince is in there. It must suck for Prince lol to not even be able to walk anywhere without almost getting mobbed but hell I guess he's used to it by now. Yep sure enough he just walked out the door, same shit again and went back to the original door which we are all standing by again now LOL. This is pretty cool. Hey Prince if you read this! I'm sorry thar you can't even walk nowhere without screaming people, it must suck sometimes to constantly have folks screaming at you ( I notice you covered your ears as the security ushered you back in). But we just love you, man! You have done so much for all of us that we just want to express our appreciation all the damn time! I hope you have been happy with the shows so far. You were incredible today! Don't worry about the folks who bitch and moan and expect you to show up at every afterparty and complain about setlists etc. I for one am very grateful that you showed up at all, you must be hella tired after a show and if folks can't appreciate that then to hell with them! Peace out mayn. |

I really appreciate what you did for us! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Seriously, tonight was fantastic! Glad none of you f***ers bought my Keith prowse package!! You went!? Fantastic! But you are not at the hotel tonight?? No mate. Couldn't get rid of the package on here so thought what the hell I've got block 111 row E, just go and enjoy! And thats what me and my girlfriend did!! She went to the 3rd with me too and we both thought that tonight's show blew that one out the water. He didin't slow up tonight. Kept the funk flowing. We all just wanted to dance and he obliged. Why can't he see that we'd still want that on a wednesday night too??!! It doesn't take a genius that the opening of LGC, TMWU and Guitar was a million times better than Down By The Riverside and Satisfied!! The whole place was in the palm of his hnd from the first minute and he kept us dancing and moving pretty much the whole show. It really was superb last night. He would have noticed too how much better the show was going down. Keep the slow jazzy jams for the aftershow. We want to rock the house for the main course please!!! Thanks P!!

Did Prince come back on stage after his little 5 mins with Nikka or was that it for the night? We held on till 3:30 but there seemed to be no sign of a stage return, just him wandering around and running out of the exits... "The time frame of 5.6 seconds established by the Zapruder film left no possibility of a fourth shot from Oswald's rifle..."

Fantastic night. The atmosphere was amazing and the crowd were very responsive.
Prince seemed to be in a great mood joking with the audience and all his performances were particularly impassioned. The sequence of songs flowed excellently and maintained a very high energy level, even during the 'slower' numbers. The set-list has already been given, but here are some general, noteworthy observations: Both 'Lets Go Crazy' and 'Guitar' were longer and had more guitar soloing than Wednesday. They were much more frenzied. 'Musicology' was longer and had a different arrangement which went into a funky breakdown reminiscent of 'The Work' from the 'ONA' tour. Prince mixed 'Prince and the Band' and 'Housequake' chants into the 'Musicology' jam to great effect. 'Play that Funky Music White Boy' followed 'Musicology' and tore the house down. Great rhythm guitar by Prince. I was unsure about this song choice initially, but after hearing it played it has totally won me over. 'Controversy' was a very intense, blistering version. The best I've heard so far. 'Purple Rain' was extended with a longer intro (similar to the 'Rave' DVD) and finish. It worked amazingly toward the end of the concert. The acoustic section was very well-recieved, as was 'Nothing Compares 2 U'. It is the ONLY concert I've ever been to where most of the audience 'booed' when they realised it was over. Some of the songs were similar to previous nights, but the performing of them was just superlative.

To hell with them? That's nice. Look, I think we can all appreciate that Prince must be tired after each show. What is harder to appreciate is Prince pocketing money for aftershows where he either doesn't turn up or only turns up for 5 minutes. It's cool you had such a great time, and I'm sure we all really enjoyed your updates etc - but if you cannot understand why some people are disappointed to have spent so much money on aftershow tickets only to find they've actually got tickets for "The Nikka Costa Official Aftershow" instead, then you need to get some perspective. £25 + TM fees for a five minutes guitar bit is not a good deal for anyone who thought they were booking tickets for "Prince - the Official Aftershow". It's cool you enjoyed Nikka Costa's performance, but I personally would never under any circumstances pay £25+ and stand around for hours just to see her live. Hell, if she was playing right now in my living room for free I'm not sure I'd turn up. This problem of juggling fan expectations etc is all the fault of Prince and his people. I would never have expected an aftershow performance - sure I'd have hoped for one, but I'd never have expected one - if not for the fact that Ticketmaster actually sold tickets at such high prices to something called "Prince - the Official Aftershow". The best thing they could do now is say "right, no further aftershows are guaranteed, so we'll refund all aftershow tickets and admit people to Indigo2 on a first-come-first-served basis. If Prince shows up, you got lucky." [Edited 8/5/07 5:09am]

Agree with the Nikka and mic stand thing. That girl has some moves, fa sho!
Ian - I'm not going to get into an argument with you but I want to make a few things clear. Firstly Prince does not owe anyone jackshit. If the title of the event is "Prince - The official aftershow" that does NOT mean he is going to play. You should know better! All it means is what it says, it is an afterparty event following the main Prince gig for the people that aint done partying yet! No more, no less, but if you get ANYTHING more than a DJ than be thankful! I'm a major label musician myself so have been to a few artists afterparties at this point....I don't know what you think an afterparty is supposed to be but there's never been expectations that the artists would show up let alone perform! The first come first serve basis for tickets is not feasible at all, surely you saw how huge the queue was? If they had done that people wouldn't have gotten in until the place closed! Where the hell else apart from ticketmaster should they sell the tickets, and what the hell else should they call the event? FFS its a PARTY, AFTER the PRINCE gig. Therefore it is a PRINCE AFTERPARTY. That's what its called. |
