It's quite comical that Prince always says that he has too many hits, yet he'll only play 5 or 6 of them.

Come on.....who wants to listen to hits ? "Purple Rain" ? The 1.004th version ? There are too many other great tracks..."If I Was Your Girlfriend", "She´s Always In My Hair". "Joy in repetition"....I wish we´re able to enjoy THESE tracks on 18th august....I can´t stand "Purple Rain", "Let´s go crazy" anymore.
confused
(akime from germany...adoring HIM since the purple days....)......and....sorry for less quality in grammar...if your german is in a better shape....it´s up 2 u wink

prince is reliving his era of life when he was really a star! now he is a has-been who really does have a "big head"! when you start your show using songs from twenty years ago what does that tell you? wake up folks. stop living in the past. i would rather see prince promote new groups that sound like him. he is being greedy and stingy. he stills wants to shine after all of this time. he is talented enough to produce groups that can emerge and make money for themselves and he will still get paid. i would never pay three grand to see anybody even if i had the money. i would rather give that money to charity then to give it to someone who doesn't need or want for anything. prince is being a little ungrateful. i never hear or ever heard of anything that he has done for people in general. he never comes to his own hometown to find new groups to help get on their feet. no talent shows or free shows for that matter. sorry prince. you have worn your welcome out! its time to stand up on your on two feet, rather than standing on three feet tall stilettos and wearing cheap suits. prince where is your hotel, restaurant, talk show featuring someone else, music school for the poor talented kids, own record label.small boutique, ice cream shop, shoe store, bookstore, anything that gives your fans a way to let you give them something back. all of these things create jobs for people that have supported you for years. you just keep recieving and never giving. and i thought it was said "it is better to give than to recieve". i guess i believe in the wrong God. giving those free cd's was just a drop in the bucket.what makes europe so special that they got the free cd's? it should have been for the people that live in your hometown. cause that's where it all started.i thought you said all of this and more was for us? your life to share. don't look like you are sharing to me...

In response to this thread .. what the eek

The review in the Times was so blah. Nothing doing there.. ignore it and move on. Egytt what you have written below is pure negativity just what this forum does not need. MORE negativity - there is a load of it flying around masquerading in opinion.

Prince is, was and always will be above everything else, a talented human being. With all the rubbish that spews out as music these days, it is fantastic to bear witness to his longevity.

It is all hype - he plays the game well. Good for him. If we buy into it or not, or even threaten GBH razz to Ticketmaster for not ensuring Prince's performance at each and every aftershow for anything from 10mins to over 2hrs.. then go for it.

I am just grateful I had the chance to see him live and enjoy and reminisce and look forward to whatever might come. Love the man, love his music and that is what should be celebrated in this forum. Spewing out a bitter post is not.

Have a good one folks.. take care and keep enjoying the man - we are lucky!!!!!

...I would rather Prince, who sounds like himself, continue promoting
himself...and continue singing any and all of his songs, old and new...even
if I don't particularly care for any certain one of them...the fact that he
not only calls Minneapolis home, but continues to spend time living and
working there indicates to me he cares...my guess is, he is involved with
charitable projects of which we are unaware...not to mention (which you
didn't) those about which we know...I don't know...maybe I don't get it, but
it seems to me one of his major goals regarding his music is to "share"
it...and overall, I think he has been succesful...

i had so many other topics for you to chose from and that is all you could think of? there is nothing wrong with other groups that can sound like and not be him. i'd rather he'd do it than other record companies promoting people who sound like him or others and never mention that is where they got their sound from. prince has written for a lot of people without recognition and noone knows that he is who wrote for them bcause he uses so many aliases.i sing just like prince and i would rather he write for me than to go to another writer and copy his style. if prince wrote for me i wouldn't be a copy cat, just a good damn female singer that sounds just like him,dig it?

grateful? to see another human being. by a long shot be grate ful to meet the pope in your lifetime. someone who represents a supreme being. not a human being trying to be supreme.where is your mind. he has had his heydey he should bow out gracefully like everyone else has.promote other groups like i said and set up some wrecka stows and such for his fans to "run" throughout the world and sell his old stuff and everybody else's old stuff that we can't find elsewhere..

Yes, it's true. You had many topics from which to choose. Perhaps, I didn't quite get your point. So for clarification purposes here is the quote under discussion from your post:

prince is reliving his era of life when he was really a star! now he is a has-been who really does have a "big head"! when you start your show using songs from twenty years ago what does that tell you? wake up folks. stop living in the past. i would rather see prince promote new groups that sound like him.

You started this post referring to Prince as a big-headed has-been who is singing twenty year-old songs to his fans who are living in the past. Then you said that you would rathersee Prince promote new groups that sound like him.

My question is: Rather than what?

Rather is a synonym for instead. So would you like to see Prince promote new groups that sound like him instead of performing and promoting his own work? That is how your post sounded to me. If I misunderstood, I apologize.

Quoting your more recent post:

i sing just like prince and i would rather he write for me than to go to another writer and copy his style. if prince wrote for me i wouldn't be a copy cat, just a good damn female singer that sounds just like him,dig it?

I just don't follow your logic. Whether Prince writes the song or not wouldn't you still be "a damn good singer that sounds just like him"? Afterall, Prince would be writing in his own style. Are you saying in that case, unlike another writer who would be copying his style (hence making you a copycat), Prince would be "giving" you his style. If you are singing one of his songs (that he wrote for you) and you sound just like him certainly you wouldn't consider yourself an original, would you?

And lastly, both of your posts seem to imply that Prince owes his time and efforts to new groups/ singers that sound like him. Again, perhaps I've misunderstood. But I doubt it.

Tell that to Mick Jagger. And wasn't James Brown performing until days before his death. Bob Dylan...time to stop, buddy. Any orgers care to add to this list?

prince is, like i said living in his past.why doesn't he just make a new album which he did, and go on tour singing that album to tour on? he can't do it. cause folks aint trying to hear that 3121 slow sounding funk. when i went to the club and requested they play something danceable from his new cd, the deejay told me that those songs are too slow and he doesn't have anything programmed from prince's old danceable tunes. so i don't care what you guys say or think prince is reliving his past. yeah all the others do too, but they don't charge people thousands of dollars to see them. yeah i sound like him cause i like his voice. yep, i would be a copycat, but no female has copied him yet.only deangelo copied his style and one other group.toni braxton copies babyface, mariah carey copies minnie riperton's octaves though she never admits it. there are a lot of copycat singers out there who are getting paid sounding like the people they are copying , i would just prefer he write for me cause i like how he writes and uses his voice.why do i have to be negative because i disagree. every thing he does is not going to be alright with me. he is not perfect and sometimes he makes bad decisions just like everyone else. he got popular cussing at us and now since he has tried to clean up his act everyone wants to suck on his balls, what is he doing with his money? i don't see nothing here in minneapolis that he owns. when the temptations were popular eddie kendricks had a record shop called 'kendricks' which he would frequent quite often and he was there a few times when i went to purchase my music. i just don't go crazy for entertainers because i grew up around them. sometimes a few would call for my brother or visit with my cousin. i have been in the company of stevie wonder, diana ross, all of the temptations, sophia loren, had dinner with chaka khan, met vanity, jesse johnson. my daugther dated wanye of 'boys to men' and he called and spoke with me several times while they were dating.ive been on board of earth, wind and fire's bus. met bob seger at the macomb mall in detroit.these are people i have spent time with just to name a few and i see them doing stuff for others with their money.they showed their fans that they appreciated all of the money that we so gullibly give. at the end of the day prince will have to eat and sit on the toilet to make a bowel movement just like the rest of us...

Wow, sounds like you've had a really privileged life, meeting all these famous people on a regular basis - you must have some really interesting stories to tell.
Maybe you can share them with us once you learn some basic grammar like correct punctuation and capitalisation?

tornik you need to learn how to spell capitalization before you start telling me how to punctuate. i don't have time to be trying to punctuate and capitalize because of folks like you. ones who try to be so f-ing smart and don't know how to spell the offensive comments that you tried to make. Stupid!

There are actually two correct spellings:

British English - capitalisation or capitalization
American English - capitalization

well, i am an american and so is prince, so i guess he spells it my way.thanx for the british info. now, can we stop the bickering and move on to the subject at hand? not agreeing with prince should not cause us to attack one another.he is only human like the rest of us. he also is found to err like a normal human being. why are you and others so stuck on him that you cannot see his flaws or faults? every decisions he makes are not always the right ones, you can assume that, when he made several wrong decisions while working with warner bros. then he dropped his natural birth name and called himself a "slave" and inked it on the side of his face then gave himself a name noone could pronounce to create 'chaos and disorder' because he made mistakes dealing with them. thee only thing that seperates him from us is the amount of money he has and the amount of money we don't have. never put another human being on a pedestal because they have more money than you.they have worst problems than we do because of their money. they never know if someone is genuinely being their friends or are just going along for the ride. so many millionaires are faced with deaths and diseases that their money could not stop the progress of it. think about how lucky you are that everyone in your family are well to do, happily living a clean life without deaths and diseases. prince lost his mother and father and no amount of money saved them or can bring them back. i know he is hella lonely without them. i won't know what to do if i lost my children or mother so early on in my life. money is the root of evil. feel lucky that you are not caught up in that web of sin. why do you think prince went to Jehovah to free his mind of all the evil his money put him into??? think about it. the meek shall inherit thee earth. remember just recently 'tammy faye bakker' died hours after her last tv interview. her and her previous husband had millions. in thee end, no amount of money could save or prolong her life. it was cut short. there are people living to be 100 years old. those are the people i look up to. God is keeping them on this earth because they are good God abiding people. i wanna live long and be happy privately, and watch my children grow up and see their children grow. only God will allow me to do that. not money.
