3121 L.A. Mini-Review 06/30 It was the hottest day of the year so far in Los Angeles and it seemed 2 be lil hotter at the Roosevelt. Holly Rock was in effect. The crowd was on thier feet as soon as Prince went thru the crowd and stood on top of booths. No uppity Hollywood types 2nite.
There will be others with set lists so let me get 2 the meat and potatoes and sbacon and others can give u the great gravy. After "cool" was slowed down by D.J. Rashida, the band jumped on stage and 'Shida spun the opening of "More Bounce 2 the Ounce" and Mike Phillips and the band took off on it. Prince joined them on stage strapping on the Hohner as they continued with that beat til Mike Philly was going into "Humpin Around" and the Vocoder. Prince then slowed it down 4 a funky version of "Girls & Boys". As Prince cued the band 2 stop, they kicked into the regular tempo version of "Girls & Boys" which had the horns playing the rift the old school jam "Curie Pie". Prince went 2 play with Renato on Keys. It was just a funky time as Prince later went in2 "Musicology" and Sheila gonna be there but u got 2 call her. The Twinz pulled several people on stage at this point and later in the song he motioned 2 the front 2 say "You want to sing on 1?". Up came Sheila (whom Prince walked over 2 b4 thhe show 2 give a hig 2) and they went in2 "A Love Bizzare". Prince pulled some1 up 2 the mic 2 sing the hook. Lo and behold, it was Quincy Jones. Prince pulled up several people 4 "Play That Funky Music" including Patrick Swayze and did a lil Dirty Dancing dance. lol. Did he mistake the Twinz 4 Jennifer Grey? Nobody puts the Twinz in the corner! (ahem..hope some of u got that...) Take Me with U and Guitar was played as well as If I was Ur Girlfriend, Pink Cashmere, Black Sweat, Kiss, Cream, U Got The Look and Let's Go Crazy. During Black Sweat, Prince called out Jessica Simpson who was in the crowd. He started off Black Sweat by saying "This is not American Idol. This is not the Musketeers." (JT are u listening?) He also said this is bass and had the crowd chant "Come on Prince, play that bass". BTW, 4 the person who requested it, "Shh" was played 2nite. Sheila came up 2 do Glamourous Life, and a lil bit of a solo with the band. Prince changed outfits at least 3 times as he was sweating out each outfit. (Hey, I told u it was hot.) When he ended the set, he walked thru the crowd touching hands while walking by. The after show was funky with very little singing..unless u count Prince's guitar cuz that thing was singing big time. Great guitar solos along with guest appearances by Eve, and a couple of others. Prince was in a very playful mood jumping on n off stage several times and giving Cora mad props 4 her playing. Renato killed it on "The Dance" while Prince watched from up above, even putting his leg up and chilling n air keyboarding Renato's playing. Some attention was brought 2 that as people started 2 cheer and Prince hopped off as the crowd concentrated on Renato's playing. After he was done, Prince appeared again yelling "Renato Neto" and the crowd cheering. Neto even took a bow from the crowd. Prince came back 2 play more guitar and just killed it. Woo. All in all it was a fun a show and it was nice 2 see more familiar faces in the crowd. Celebs I saw in the spot along with Sheila E. and Eve were Patrick Swayze and his brother, David Arquette, Christopher Titus, Jessica Simpson, newscaster (a hot 1 2) Lauren Sanchez, NFL player Michael Strahan with Eddie Murphy's X-wife,Elisha Cuthbert and the ORG's own Carrie Cee aka Lee aka....u get the picture. Prince kicked off the show right in front of her, standing on the booth b4 hers. There were 3 other celebs but want 2 see the reviewers name them as they ended up on stage. Again, at least 2 great set listers and reviewers were also there so will let them add when they either recover or return home. j7 [Edited 7/1/07 6:23am] [Edited 7/1/07 18:32pm] Silence Speaks A Thousand Words.

Excellent! I can't wait until next Saturday. I hope there is an aftershow at Paisley Park. I wonder when the sound check for the Target Center will take place since there won't be much time left after the Macy's pre-show. Thanks J7.

"touching hands as he walked by"
dear god, what an ultimate high that would be for me. At the Musicology Tour, I was on a balcony seat, my son kept holding on to my dress...he was sure I would fall off! [Edited 7/2/07 15:01pm]
