In that case, you shouldn't be attacking mirrorbestfrined, nor defending P either. Since both are forms of JUDGING. razz

The difference is that mirrorbestfrined is saying that Prince is "selling out" for doing this and is not a "true" artist. What I'm REALLY saying is that Prince is entitled to go sit in a cave for the rest of his life and pull a Howard Hughes on the world OR start performing at weddings, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, and/or retirement parties if HE so chooses. I may not like it, but ultimately it is his art (which IMO getting PAID should not preclude or prevent him from still being a "true" artist, whatever THAT means), it is HIS life and if someone has the dough to spend and wants to see Prince perform in their master bathroom it's Prince's right to do so if he chooses to sans the judgment. That's what I'm defending.
[Edited 6/4/07 6:42am]

And I respect that you are defending his FREEDOM OF CHOICE as a an artist.
But mirrorbestfriend is simply having trouble matching Prince's choice to make as much insane millions as he can, while at the same time preaching about God and all the "worldy sins" people fall for every time. "Uhuh, sure Princey rolleyes " is what he is saying/judging. wink

How the fuck does anyone here know what he does with all the money he makes?

It's pretty fucked up to assume so much.

Staying true to HIS art as PRINCE sees fit (not how YOU believe he should) does not mean he has to turn down a million dollar pay day to remain a true artist in YOUR judgmental eyes. You may not agree with his methods or motivations but who are you, or any of us, to judge his actions.

I was at Princes original concert in 1977 so I have right to help him decide on whats best for his career.

Didn't he said "we" could do it "In the kitchen, on the stairs, on the pool table, in the closet underneath the clothes. . . " nod lol Shit, Michael got paid $10 million to WALK THROUGH a birthday party last week, I wonder what Princey Pie would do for $10 mil???? hmmm Forget concert tickets, I need to go buy a whole roll of lottery tickets. . .

I don't see why everyone is saying Prince sold out. Most artists would ask for more to play a private gig like that. I'm just wondering what the husband did wrong to have to get Prince to play a private concert to make up to his wife. I wish I were there. I'm guessing there won't be any pictures.

But seriously though, to all the ppl that are complaning...its really not a big deal.

Wow a million bucks for 6 songs smile People were bashing MJ in a different thread for playing a birthday party so I wonder if they will hit this thread.

Prince is sure doing a bunch of stuff this year that I never thought he would do.

MJ didn't PLAY at a birthday party, but he did play the fool who payed him. The reports I read said he walked in, hung out for a few minutes and left because he 'wasn't feeling well'. Why do people think he can still do anything? He hasn't performed anywhere in the last few years that I can recall. Hell, even Quincy Jones won't give him the time of day now.

Will you get your damn facts straight! you may dislike the man but no need to respond with ignorance! geez.....try to pick sense out of nonsense when you comsume all that tabloid trash!

but anx remember the guy with slave on his face and preaching artistic integrity?

Music should never be motivated by money.....

music for music;s sake is true and pure

what example is Prince setting for young musicians?

you can be bought and sold if you have the money?

at one of the 3121 vegas shows, prince did a little rant in which he said "free the music? ain't nothing free."

and to an extent, i agree with him...why shouldn't he make money for the music he makes? is he dutybound to provide us with music free of charge, just to "keep the art pure"?

anyway, what artist has EVER followed that philosophy?!

while i do miss the days when he was throwing around new music like it was birdseed, it's his PREROGATIVE to be that generous with his work...not his RESPONSIBILITY.

sorry. i can't see a problem with this at all.

Agreed, but he better play Little Red Corvette when wifey requests it.

A friend just called me and told me that our man and Grupo Fantasma did a surprise, private performance at a restaurant in Austin, Texas, Saturday night June 2nd. It was featured on the local news station KXAN.

According to this site: http://thatotherpaper.com...he_belmont

Inside sources tell That Other Paper that a very, very wealthy individual has commissioned Prince to fly to Austin and regale his wife with Princey hits and over-sexified renditions of “Happy Birthday.” (Sounds like someone needs some P Control.) To ensure secrecy, he’s rented out the Belmont.

The Events & Music section of the Belmont’s website reads:

The Belmont closed for Private Event 06-02-2007
The Belmont will be closed on Saturday, June 2, 2007 for a private event. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I have discovered that Prince was paid $1 million to come to the Belmont and play 6 songs. Better be 6 really good songs.

I thought Prince, since he's supposed to be JW, was against celebrating birthdays, another contradiction I guess..

Does this mean that if 10.000 of us each pay $100 we can get him to perform when we want? (instead of waiting a few years 'till he gets over here)

You know what, I just remembered that Renato mentioned a stop in TX when I talked to him after the May 19 show. I asked him what their performance plans were, and he said that they were going to LA the next day, then they would be going to Texas, and then he thought the next stop would be London (the plan has changed since then, obviously). I thought Texas sounded a little out of the ordinary (since I hadn't read anything about a Texas concert online) but I didn't bother asking him anything about it. Oops. boxed
