WAR live at 3121 on Wednesday, 12/27/06

I was at the ticketmaster site, and their site states the group "WAR" will be playing this Wednesday, 12/27 at Club 3121. Not sure how true that is, but it's on their site. Price is $31.21. Is this the group from back in the 70s that made the song "Slipping into Darkness?" I am wondering if it's them or a new group. If this is the group, I found a little info on them on the web, not sure if all the original members are still around,

WAR (original members pictured here)

"An American original; WAR was the first and most successful musical crossover phenomenon that forever fused rock, jazz, Latin, and R&B, while transcending racial and cultural barriers with a multi-ethnic line-up; a musical melting pot and an enduring influence that has sold nearly 25 million records to date.

Today, WAR is a permanent part of America's pop cultural landscape. A touring act that performs 150 shows a year and whose catalogue of timeless hits permeates our everyday lives. WAR classics have been featured in countless movies, television shows and commercials. Films such as The Mexican, How High, Remember The Titans, A Knight's Tale, Boogie Nights and Lethal Weapon 4; T.V. shows such as ER, That Seventies Show, Bernie Mac, The Job, The Simpsons and the theme to the George Lopez Show; TV ads for products like Nissan, Mitsubishi, Miller Brewing, Burger King and Sprint PCS have kept WAR music in the fore.

The music has also been re-spun by many contemporary artists from Janet Jackson to Korn, Smashmouth to Shaggy and from Macy Gray to TLC with covers or samples of WAR hits.

WAR, the original street band, was the brainchild of veteran record producer Jerry Goldstein ("My Boyfriend's Back", "Hang On Sloopy", "I Want Candy") and rock legend Eric Burdon (ex-lead singer of the top British band The Animals). "I first saw some of the guys who would eventually become WAR playing at a topless beer bar in the San Fernando Valley, backing Deacon Jones, the pro football player, and knew immediately how potent these kids were," states Goldstein. "I was friends with Eric and he was ready to throw in the towel on the music scene and return to Newcastle. He was tired of the 'rock' thing and desperate for a fresh authentic sound. I called him the morning after I first saw the band and made him return to the club the next night with me. Eric was so blown away by what he had heard that he jumped on stage to jam with them. The guys were so sheltered, that they hadn't even heard of Eric or The Animals. I had them in the studio within a week, and the rest is history!"

It so weird because, now speaking of that group, it makes me want to seek out their music and play it. Unbelievable how much valuable music there is from that time period, that still sounds so good played today. I also now feel like listening to the Ohio Players...I guess I'm in a 70s mode today.

Girl, there's not even a word to describe how I feel right now. WAR is, was and always will be my favorite band ever since I was a kid!

Prince, why not just stick a knife in my chest and be done with it? 5 days notice???

Real music? These guys know how to bring it. There's only 2 original members left and over the years they had some guys in there that didn't quite cut it, but the current incarnation of WAR is kickin' ass like they did back in the day. I'm beside myself!

My favorite album is The World Is A Ghetto featuring a NASTY sax solo by Charles Miller, (RIP) on the title track, followed closely by the Deliver The Word album, which has the extended version of Gypsy Man with that classic Lee Oskar harmonica solo that you simply MUST hear before you die. Don't get me started on WAR because I could go on and on.

Four Cornered Room
Spill The Wine
Deliver The Word
City Country City
Slippin' Into Darkness
Southern Part Of Texas
The Cisco Kid
Where Was You At

Why, Prince? WHYYYYY? If you wanted me to pack up and move to Vegas all ya had to do was ask!

Okay, I know I'm exaggerating and being a drama queen. I've seen WAR more times than I can count, but it will be a long time before I get over this. Thanks for letting me vent on your thread 2elijah...

Anyone who gets to go have fun...I won't be able to bring myself to read the reports on this one. sad

lol Hey Babynoz that's cool...thanks for filling me in on which members of that group are still around. I love "Cisco Kid" and "Slippin' into Darkness"....don't forget "War Drums" and "The World is a Ghetto"..I just listened to that..talk about Real Music by Real Musicians..need we say more? How about the group "B.T. Express' their song "Do it til' You're Satisfied? (dancing jig me dancing to that right now..oh yeeahhh biggrin)

It would be nice if Prince had a "70s night" at the 3121 club and everyone would dress up like the 70s including Prince and the band members...now that would be fun and cool....because he does play some 70s classic songs at his shows

It's just like the Soul Train dancer clips he keeps showing on the 12 big screens..the clothes and hairdos in the early 70s era was a trip..bell bottoms, elephant pants, go-go boots, fringed vests, window pane and fishnet stockings, striped pants, bell sleeve, blouses and shirts, hip-huggers, empire dresses, polyester shirts (lots of polyester lol) chain link belts and big belts, big afros and afro puffs, flip-up hairdos, bangles and beads, head bands, wedgy shoes and the men wore those big clonky heel shoes and the leather jackets like John Travolta wore in Saturday Night Live lol

It could be a mixture of Soul Train and Saturday Night Fever Night at Club 3121: ..now that would be fun, and Prince and DJ Rashida could play 70s classics while we dance to 70s music all night long until Prince kicks us out of the club. lol
(Babynoz...I just started a thread in the Prince music and more forum about what music from bands of that era, fans would like Prince or DJ Rashida to play if Prince actually had a 70s night at Club 3121...would love your suggestions too)

I'm on it! They call themselves the Low Rider Band due to legal issues. WAR's current members sound great along with Lonnie Jordan but Howard Scott is the soul of WAR in my opinion.

Is Lee Oskar really back with them? excited

If Prince books the Low Rider Band I hope he gives more than 5 days notice this time so I can get to Vegas.

they actually opened for Los Lobos on the 26th ...

they jammed:

Cisco Kid
Slippin' Into Darkness
Southern Part of Texas
The World Is a Ghetto
Low Rider
Why Can't We Be Friends?
So
Me and Baby Brother

during Los Lobos set Lee Oskar thought he was a member of the band ... he sat in for 8 songs (5 too many imo) ... Little Willie G of the Midniters sang a couple of songs including I Feel Good in honor of Mr. Brown with Los Lobos

http://loslobos.setlist.c...26-06.html

I've seen both WAR versions now ... u can't wrong with either because their songs are so strong
