Are you glad he's retiring some songs after this tour?

I loved the show, and I'm glad he's filling the arenas again, but I will be glad to hear some B-sides and more obscure tracks on the next tour. For Purple Rain tracks Id' like to hear "Computer Blue" and 1999 maybe "Free" or "Something in the Water"

I love the hits, but I think it will be OK to retire some of them next time..

I agree with you 100%

I wanna hear some new shit too. I don't care if the part time fans bitch about not hearing hits, I love a lot of his new stuff and I want to hear it live.

It wouldn't break my heart if he retired some of the hits. He has plenty of amazing material that falls outside that category that he could do amazing stuff with on stage.

I would definitely love to hear more obscure songs. I guess "Horny Toad" is out of the question now he cleaned up his lyrics? wink

What almost matters more to me than *what* he plays, is *how* he plays them. If he were to do something completely different with a song he's played a billion times already, then that would be really refreshing. With some songs he's done that, but songs like I Would Die 4 U and Baby I'm a Star are not all that different from tour to tour. When he's in a good mood, he can tear it up on any song, and it almost doesn't matter what he plays. At that point, for me at least, it's all about seeing him in his element, seeing the artist juggling his talents in this exhilirating way.

It can be wild, but it can be mellow too. I loved what he did, for example, with "Alphabet St" during the Nude Tour: it basically turned into this long jam, with James Bond riffs included and all.

What about a live-rendition of the 20-minute version of America? wink I guess that would be more suitable for an aftershow. What I love about his aftershows also, in addition to the more jamming-style which I like, are the covers he plays.

I would want him to play some more obscure older songs (Dirty Mind through SOTT era) and combine it with some fresh interpretations of some of his bigger hits, plus a couple of new songs we've never heard before and get to learn through his shows. That would make for an amazing set list, in my mind.

As soon as I have said this I am already doubting it, because there's is great stuff on Emancipation too that's very suitable for a live show.

More variation from show-to-show than has recently been the case, that would be great too.

The version of Sign O the Times on this tour is better than the record I think. Blistering solo, and funkier version. It kicked ASS!

Yes, I'm glad he's retiring some old hits. I love all the hits, but it's time for the new music. I'm not saying that he should never do another older song, but he has so many that he never does and the new stuff just keeps coming, so I hope the next time I see him the set list contains 25% old stuff and 75% new stuff.

Come now, people..... we all now Prince isn't retiring anything. Remember in '85 when he "retired" and said he wasn't going to tour anymore? Remember in about '92 when he said he wasn't going to record anymore to concentrate on other forms of media? Remember in '94, when he said he would never play any of his WB songs ever again? Remember when he said Crystal Ball 2 was coming?

I for one will be glad to see the back of Purple Rain
I'm sick of hearing *insert city name* are you with me - if you are *insert city name*
then when i bring it back i wanna hear all of you sing with me 1 - 2 oooooh ohhhhh ooooh oooooh.
First time i saw him do it - it moved me to tears - now a hundred times later
it falls just a little flat. That and Kiss - oh god kill me if i hear that once more.
I dont want him to keep ressurecting the old stuff i want new stuff - funky stuff
something a little more daring, pushing the his boundries to new limits I know
he has more stuff in him - lets hear it!!!
smile

Apart from that - he was amazing (as always!!) in Boston last night.
Please let him do an aftershow while he is here - then we can see him
rip up some funky stuff!

I'll never tire of hearing the classics. Can't imagine not hearing Little Red Corvette. But if he never plays You've Got the Look again I'll be perfectly happy. Never could stand that song.

ALSO, one gripe from the Friday D.C. show. Why the hell was he performing "No Diggity?" He performs abbreviated versions of his songs, then plays "No Diggity" in its entirety? I can understand covers of "I feel for you" or "soul man" - those are classics. But No Diggity? mad

Anyway. I'm feeling much better now. cool

The reason this tour did so good is that he said it was playing the hits. Everyone knows the hit songs from Prince even if they aren't huge fans. Most of those people don't know about all the other great music he has put out over the years because it hasn't been in the media that much. I think the next tour will be that great music.

He skipped "Purple Rain" "Kiss" on ONA and didnt play "1999" this time around. The ones I really won't miss are "Let's Go Crazy" and "Baby I'm a Star". How cool would it be to hear "Just As Long As We're Together" instead!
