I dont understand the whole "sign up for the military, get the benefits, then complain when you actually have to do the work" bit. My father missed more than half of my childhood out on an aircraft carrier and my family never complained. He was doing his job and doing it well. I cant stand these ungreatful thugs that bitch and moan when they are asked to do their job. If you didnt want to do it in the first place, go AWOL and get your whiney butt out and pay your own student loans.

Does anyone know the vow/swearing in process that people in the military have to take? Do they promise to protect and serve America? I am curious as to how the military swearing in is worded or if they are sworn in at all. I am sure that they must be. Anyhow, I would have no problem putting my life on the line to protect THIS country. But who are our soldiers in Iraq protecting? What threat did Saddam really pose to America? Even if he had weapons of mass destruction, who said that he was a threat to America? **************************************************

The Military Oath I, ___, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God. "Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows." | |

Thanks for the reply 333. In that case, I guess that they have to do whatever that crazy mofo in the white house says. I could never be in the military. I respect those that can blindly go whever some man says. I couldn't do it. **************************************************

it is their job. realize that most people join the military either by choice (becoming an officer after gaining a college education, they are higher ranked) or because they have no other choices (enlisting because they had poor grades or did not know what profession they wanted). Usually the Officers who are highly educated respect and obey the orders because they agree with them. Many times the enlisted men just do what they are told by a superior Officer because that is their job. Sometimes you get the men who are insubordinate. They are usually disposed of in one fashion or another. Being in the military is not easy. But it pays off in the long run with good benefits and job security. The Military Oath is really about up holding the Constitution of the United States. Every congress man, every judge, and the President swear an oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution." No one swears allegiance to the President. As the commander and chief of the armed forces the Presidents orders are to be followed. However it is not the case that they are to followed blindly. They are to be followed in accordance with the Constitution. Even the President must bow to the Constitution. Likewise the Uniform Code of Military Justice does not condone or imply that the orders of an officer or even the President must be obeyed when they conflict with Constitution.
