Immigrant haters....and their immigrant forebearers

Great article about immigrant bashers, like Stephen Miller, who are the descendents of immigrants themselves.

https://www.huffingtonpos...0e27403e42

Some great tidbits :

"A photo of Nison (aka Max) Miller stares out from the screen, sullen and stern, in faded black and white. “Order of Court Denying Petition” is the title of the government form dated “14th November 1932,” to which it is attached, the one in which Miller is applying for naturalization as an American citizen.

And beneath the photo, the reason given for his denial: Ignorance.

Nison Miller is the great-grandfather of White House adviser Stephen Miller, who has taken credit for being one of the chief architects of the administration’s family separation policy. And this 85-year-old document is just one bit of ammunition in a campaign being waged by the unofficial band that goes by the hashtag #Resistance Genealogy."

“Unless your ancestors came on a slave ship or you’re Native American,” you came here as an immigrant, says Jennifer Mendelsohn, who created the #resistancegenealogy hashtag last summer after Republican congressman Steve King or Iowa was quoted as saying “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.” So she went on a genealogy website and quickly documented that King’s own grandmother was one such baby, arriving in 1894 from Germany as a 4-year-old, along with her infant siblings."

Imagine what conditions these people must be leaving behind in order to make a long journey with a few clothes and small children just to seek asylum in this country - a country with jobs available that Americans are not applying for nor want. Trump has demonized ALL these people as criminals in order to justify tearing their children from them and shipping them off with no tracable way of reuniting them with their parents.

None of these men/women apply this expereince to their own ancestors. <<<---- WTF! I DID NOT WRITE THIS! Who else but a mod can go in and alter posts?!

I agree with Mendelsohn. Steve King has always expressed his racial prejudice. It’s amazing that he has developed a case of amnesia and is in fact ‘an immigrant’.

It takes a special asshole to remedy his own self-hatred with the subjugation of others. And don't anyone tell me they don't realize they are doing it.

Restore our civilization? How about you be the first to go, Steve?

Let’s correct that.. No Anne, you descended from Europeans from Europe, who then immigrated to a foreign land, that was already occupied for years by Native Americans. Your ancestors who immigrated here were immigrants and so are you.

Your ancestors hold no ‘original rights’ to this land. Why? Because this country now referred to as ‘America’ is not a land your ancestors originated nor descended from. Please stop lying. Your lie is like telling Americans that Christopher Columbus discovered America, when it has been proven that Columbus never set foot on the ‘mainland’ of America. Thank you. Class dismissed.

The ones working in software companies and the like are documented immigrants, usually with visas and work permits. UNDOCUMENTED immigrants generally work in restaurants, or doing construction or domestic work.

People like me have no issue with people who are here who are working hard (especially doing jobs most Americans won't do). But there are many who are upset about immigrants coming here, ESPECIALLY if they are not White.

@bolded part. That’s the damn truth. It’s their fear of the Browning of America. Trump could build a wall.. won’t stop America from going Brown, because it’s inevitable.

Agree. The entire current hatred of immigrants is all about color. As JJ said, nobody is going after any white immigrants, like Irish in New York. When I lived there a restaurant I worked in had a revolving door Irish illegal staff. Probably hasn't changed, but nobody seems concerned with European migration, huh? (Unless they're Muslim) Meanwhile, they are detaining, holding and drugging children coming across the Mexican border.

So true. I live in area with a ton of Irish immigrants. I have no idea of their legal status, and no one seems to care. And NYC is full of Russians, again I doubt that every last one of them is here legally. But ICE isn't breaking down doors in their neighborhoods.
