Social media censorship of conservatives has gone too far

Twitter has banned Nero (Milo Yiannopoulos) for life. Their excuse was that he bullied Leslie Jones. The real reason is that he's a right-wing blogger. They are fine with ISIS and people encouraging the murder of cops, but they cannot tolerate people with different opinions than the admin. I wouldn't put it passed them to target Trump next.

You must know by now that hurting someones feelings is a bigger crime than threatening to slice someones throat.

Then again. I think that Twitter is asked to keep ISIS activism on their service. It makes monitoring them by intelligence departements around the globe more easy.

Fucking brilliant speech at the RNC's gay party. This is why Milo should be Trump's Press Secretary. He addresses the Twitter ban too, fyi.

They gave the prick enough warnings. He was about hate speech. There is video of Milo saying that social media should ban trolls. Classic.

Diana, don't worry, you still have lots of hate online to follow.

I will never understand gay conservatives. The GOP wants to outlaw them, and has added sexual conversion therapy to its official platform. In short, the GOP hates pretty much everything about Mr. Yiannopoulos, and yet he aligns himself with them (he's not an American so he can't vote).

Well, after readiing up on this guy, now maybe I understand. He's a loser. No other way to put it. He got what he deserved.

But still - gay Republicans? I do not get it. At all. If you're gay and Republican, why? Economics? It sure seems way easier to get Democrats to come around to GOP economics than it does to get the GOP to come around to gay issues. After all, President Obama extended the Disastrous Bush Tax Cuts, then made most of them permanent.

Or is it national defense? Again - we were attacked under Republican leadership, and the GOP responded by invading the wrong country. President Obama has kept us safer, and got most of our troops home. What national defense reason is there to be a Republican?

I think that when it comes to Mr. Yiannopoulos, I have to agree with Leslie Jones. She said, "You really have to hate yourself to put out this kind of hate" and she is right.

Diana, I know you believe the right to harass people is extremely important to protect, but not everyone else feels that way, including Twitter management. And it's their company so they get to nake the rules.

Are you suggesting they be subject to government regulation requiring them allow harrassment to continue even if it costs them money?

I know. It's crazy. What type a world do we live in where a guy can't meanly call a black actress a gorilla? Listen, free market types and corporate overlord worshippers. This asshole repeatedly violated the terms of service of a private company. He can say what he wants and Twitter can do what they want.

Milo knows exactly what he's doing and idiots like you are falling for it" say increasingly outlandish, edgy and insensitive things to get attention and money, then claim to be persecuted and censored when the blowback comes. He got EXACTLY what he wanted.

You guys created these monsters and when the majority of the country dislikes them, the persecution complex is apparently boundless. How about practice what you preach, suck it up, man up and quit whining? Go start your own "conservative Twitter Company" Call it "Shitter" or "Cwitter". Then you can all go yell at each other in your digital echo chamber and quit poisoning modern social discourse.

You big bunch of whiny pussies.

Go steamroller over some old Dixie Chicks records or get Bill Maher or Dan Rather fired again. Out a CIA agent. Start an illegal war. Go full libertarian utopia and cecede Texas then go live there, you miserable angry malcontents. You true beleivers don't even recognize how often you've been wrong, and, more importantly, on the wrong side of history.

Milo can say whatever he wants, just not on Twitter anymore. He'll milk this for all its worth too. He's smarter than you are and knows EXACTLY what he's doing and where his bread is buttered.

Borrowed, but posting it here:

Milo can bullshit alright on social and historical themes but the main thing he got hired for, tech/video game analysis, is totally foreign to him. He's only involved in it cause he discovered how easy it is to gain approval from those groups by being a shithead. And the people who make up those groups are so fundamentally stupid and desperate for validation that they don't even care or notice that their main guy doesn't know or give a shit about their source of identity.

Really, the problem with any political idea that operates under the assumption "things will be good as long as we get rid of _________" is that its doomed to failure because once those people are rid of and things aren't fixed, they will continue to hunt for degenerates to cleanse until the whole thing collapses.

I do have an answer but it's obvious that you don't know what the story is about and I'm not going to waste my time because you didn't do the research. Read up and then come back and we (or I) can discuss it rationally. Until then, you are just blowing smoke up our asses

What exactly did he tweet to Leslie Jones? Was it racist or sexist?

Are there examples of his tweets?

And if he is posting racist and sexist content, especially with such a big target on his back as a public figure, why would other conservatives be so quick to defend him, even under the guise of censorship?

Here's the poor persecuted censored bigot (MILO) in his own words less than 4 years ago advocating for social media censorship and monitoring:

http://kernelmag.dailydot...ociopaths/

.

But now there is a disturbing bleed from anonymous hatred to defamatory and spiteful language being posted under the authors’ real names using their social networking profiles. It’s as if our usual moral safeguards are being broken down by a terrifying new online landscape in which the default mode of communication is a form of attack.

What’s disturbing about this new trend, in which commenters are posting what would previously have been left anonymously, is that these trolls seem not to mind that their real names, and sometimes even their occupations, appear clamped to their vile words.

It’s as if a psychological norm is being established whereby comments left online are part of a video game and not real life. It’s as if we’ve all forgotten that there’s a real person on the other end, reading and being hurt by our vitriol. That’s as close to the definition of sociopath as one needs to get for an armchair diagnosis, though of course many other typical sociopathic traits are also being encouraged by social media.

We are all by now accustomed to the periodic whinging of public figures after another round of drive-by shootings on Twitter. But the problem isn’t restricted to those who put themselves on a public platform. Just take a look at how people are talking to each other as well. Frankly, it’s terrifying, and it occurs to me that one of the great challenges of the next decade will be how we, as a society, manage those people unable to manage themselves.

It’s clear that existing hate speech laws are inadequate for the social media era. And if we decide, as we perhaps might, that a lifetime ban on the internet is unworkable and disproportionately punitive, given the centrality of the internet to our professional and personal lives these days, what on earth are we to do? No one has yet offered a convincing answer. In the meantime, we are all, bit by bit, growing ever more fearful of the next wave of molestation.

So perhaps what’s needed now is a bolder form of censure after all, because the internet is not a universal human right. If people cannot be trusted to treat one another with respect, dignity and consideration, perhaps they deserve to have their online freedoms curtailed. For sure, the best we could ever hope for is a smattering of unpopular show trials. But if the internet, ubiquitous as it now is, proves too dangerous in the hands of the psychologically fragile, perhaps access to it ought to be restricted. We ban drunks from driving because they’re a danger to others. Isn’t it time we did the same to trolls?

Guess he got his wish, eh?

Where to even start with that? I mean holy shit. I'll just let everyone read it for themselves since it kind of speaks for itself and reinforces what I said a few posts up.

I don't have that many years left. My God, the persecution complex of the modern conservative is absolutely astonishing. We live under a center right government and these idiots think we're on the brink of a socialist takeover.

He probably did bully Leslie Jones.

Did you watch his speech I posted at the Gays for Trump party? He explains himself better than I can. While Democrats are for mass immigration and refugee intakes of poor, uneducated Muslims from the most radicalized parts of the world they can never claim to be pro-gay. They've let the gay movement down by apologizing for the most oppressive ideology against gays in the world. I think the reason most conservative gays aren't Christians is because they are thinking bigger picture. They care more about an ideological force that wants to exterminate than berating people about using the wrong transgender pronouns. And there's another big reasons a gay person choose to be a Republican, despite how much the left bullies them, and it's not economics. It's guns. Democrats not only want to let people into the country who want to kill gays but they won't even let gays protect themselves. That's a pretty big reason why some might be able to overlook some of the things some Republicans say about homosexuality and focus on the bigger picture issues like immigration, culture and safety.
