Government Healthcare - Swine flu has sickened 22 million in the U.S.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/...ld_and_flu

About 4,000 people have died, including 540 children, said Dr. Anne Schuchat, the CDC's director of immunization and respiratory diseases.

We've known about this flu for a year and we're promised 100 million vaccines
and only 42 million are available. My daughter had a fever the other day and all we could do was wait and hope. Why do we want these morons controlling healthcare?

During a typical year in the United States, 30,000 to 50,000 persons die as a result of influenza viral infection. Frequently cited numbers are 20,000 deaths each year, and 37,000 annual deaths. About 5-10% of hospitalizations for influenza lead to fatal outcome in adults.

In normal years, although most influenza infection is in children, the serious morbidity and mortality is almost entirely among elderly people with underlying chronic disease. During influenza epidemics from 1979–80 through 2000–01, the estimated overall number of influenza-associated hospitalizations in the United States ranged from approximately 54,000 to 430,000/epidemic. An average of approximately 226,000 influenza-related excess hospitalizations occurred per year, with 63% of all hospitalizations occurring among persons aged > 65 years

Sounds like your typical flu season to me.

And that's all you can do for your daughter, really? Wait and hope? If your daughter became seriously ill, take her to a hospital. Even if she is just a little ill, take her to the doctor, who can prescribe tamiflu to her, severely impairing the production of the flu virus in her system, reducing the chance of complications, and reducing the length of her illness.

Does she have any chronic health problems, or is she a healthy girl? People with chronic health problems get the front of the line in Canada, a nationalized health care nation, maybe they should do the same there.

Incidentally, severe illness levels are higher in children and the elderly for all illnesses. Children are more susceptible because their immune system isn't built up.

I understand your concern for your daughter's well being and hope she gets well soon, but don't make a mistake thinking that this illness is significantly worse than everything else out there that can harm her,

And if these 'morons' are the ones that secured your 42 million swine flu vaccines thus far, they seemed to do a lot more than your brilliant private health care providers.

I understand the flu stats. We are still in the "brilliant private healthcare" system. My point is Obama was out there teaching us how to sneeze to stop the spread of the H1N1 flu and told us what they were going to do. After which he gets praised for being a "leader"...etc. Complete something you promise...please sad

• Sec. 202 (p. 91-92) of the bill requires you to enroll in a "qualified plan." If you get your insurance at work, your employer will have a "grace period" to switch you to a "qualified plan," meaning a plan designed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If you buy your own insurance, there's no grace period. You'll have to enroll in a qualified plan as soon as any term in your contract changes, such as the co-pay, deductible or benefit.

Good luck

It is different from the typical flu, because it is killing healthy adults and children! Alot of young people around here have died;in particular: pregnant women.

The scary thing is..typical spikes in flu season haven't even started yet! Our worst months are still ahead of us!

btw, I am sorry to hear your daughter may be coming down with it.Keep her coughing it up, if that is the case. It is pneumonia that is killing people. When my daughter had it, I gave her Mucinex. It helps them keep the crud coming up instead of staying in their lungs. Praying that she doesn't have it smile

The vaccine is manufactured by 3 companies; Novartis, Sanofi, and CSL, all private sector corporations.

What does this have to do with a government healthcare plan?

Ok, so why didn't Obama or whomever advises him find out if they could actually do it before going on TV and stating that was what he going to make sure happened?

It's all about who you know here. Other neighbors know people who work in hospitals, drug stores...etc. and have gotten their kids the vaccine. I've got a list of all these places and call through the week and they're gone as soon as they arrive.
Favored people and people who know people will still be first in line with government healthcare. It won't change a thing except taking more of my money for taxes.

Government health care, in Canada, this is not the case.

My local hockey team, the Calgary Flames, got preferential treatment with flu vaccines. A large amount of outrage followed, and at least two managers in our health region have already been fired as a result of it.

Clearly, America's health care has some problems which you clearly have issues with, I'm not sure why you keep spinning it to blame on the government's potential future plans, none of which are currently in effect.

So, the answer is; nothing, I just wanted to bitch. It's easier to just admit that than to make up new tangents to try and support the original flawed premise.

The stats for the Flu are accurate this is just a more serious strain, i think that is the only reason. I dont think you will see a rise in the flu deaths from the 50,000 a year, its just now its affecting children more than in the best and its a stronger strain.

As for the months that flu spikes and what is the typical season can be debated, alot of places, like here in NYC had no summer this year, i mean we had 3 days over 90 degrees, when we normally have 20, we had a run of 2 months (may-June) in those 60days it rained 43 of them, and im talking all day rains. And now here in November we are being hit with weather we normally would get in may 60-70 degrees, so the flu, is something that is affected by weather too, climate is a huge issue, you usually dont see it in tremendous heat, but you also see it drop in bitter cold too, its the mid section temps and fluctuation that keep it around.

Seeing a-ha 10 times this year! 3 in NYC, 1 in Chicago 2 in LA, 4 in Norway including the last ever show for a-ha.

Now you blame Obama for the swine flu as well? neutral
Most people have not been vaccinated yet - because the vaccine makers are not producing enough vaccines. That's the private industry you want to continue to run healthcare. The government doesn't make vaccines.

Because the vaccine makers said at the beginning of the season that they'd be able to handle the job.

No spin here; The CDC and the media have been reporting on this epidemic for a year now. The president claimed he'd have a 100 vaccines ready for this season and they didn't. My concern is the government doesn't act quickly to anything.

I think the answer is this: if companies that are out for a profit can not make enough how much worst would it be if it was a government run facility?

Oh and how much did the government give the companies for each dose? Did it even cover the cost? We KNOW from the government medical coverage pay schedules that they often do not cover the doctor's overhead for the time spent for the service.

So how do any of us know if they made or lost money on this deal?
