Some facts about Fox News

I found this great website - actually, some right-wing nutjob posted it while ranting about Fox News being the biggest cable news network.

Granted, it is - but I wondered, how do they stack up against the "MSM" (ABC, NBC and CBS)? You will be surprised how insignificant Fox News really is.

In the third quarter of '09, Fox News pulled a 1.5 share. This is the same share they've pulled every quarter since 3Q '08, except for 4Q '08, when they went up to 1.7 (due almost certainly to the elections).

So, first fact about Fox News - their audience share hasn't increased in more than a year.

Now, how do they compare to the networks?

The "MSM" is ABC, NBC and CBS. Any right-winger worth their salt will tell you that all three conspire against the Constitution, Fox and America in general, so let's combine their share to see where Fox News fits in.

3Q '09 SHARE
Fox News - 1.5
"MSM" - 13.5

Second fact about Fox News - their audience share is about 11% of the "MSM". Nine times as many people watch the MSM as watch Fox News. But wait - there's more.

These share samples are not apples-to-apples. Because of the way cable shows report, the cable numbers are for six hours of viewing, and the networks are for thirty minutes of viewing.

So for any given thirty minutes of viewing, Fox News is almost certainly not pulling a 1.5 share. Therefore, I feel safe saying that fact number three is that the "MSM" is at least ten times bigger than Fox News and maybe even fifteen times bigger.

I've saved the best for last.

There are two other network news shows - Telemundo and UniVision. Again, the numbers for these networks are thirty-minute samples. So, how many people are watching the news in Spanish?

Their combined share is 1.3. Like I said, that's for thirty minutes.

Fact number four about Fox News is this: more people are getting their news in Spanish than are getting it from Fox News.

So the next time a right-wing nutjob starts bleating about Fox News and how "dominant" it is, just remind them that they are still looking up at those who consider English a second language!

Oh, and if you add in CNN, HLN and MSNBC's numbers (the rest of the alleged "lib media"), Fox News looks even smaller and more irrelevant.

First why combine the three major networks? It seems they each beat FOX news. But where is the adjustment for access? Fox is on paid cable the MSM are all three free. Cable has no local news lead in. There is no way to compare them.

EDIT: I had a typo. I had MSN and it should have been MSM.

The point is, how many Americans get their news from Fox vs. the "liberal media".

What the numbers show is that Americans chose the "liberal media" at least ten times more than Fox, and probably closer to 15 times more.

There certainly is a way to compare them, and that is to quantify how many people watch them. The conclusion is that Fox News does not appeal to that many Americans.

I feel good.

For real. That is always scary. But thanks, Rodeo for breaking it down for us. Now I will wait for our right wingers in the org, to spin the reason why Fake News is so weak.

So then like Realm said they are not a factor. If their viewership is so low then why are so many people in the Democrat leadership so worried about them?

No spin needed. FOX constantly beats all other comparable networks.

That's pretty simple actually. They are the only one's who tell things from a Republican point of view and the Democrat party doesn't like having a network that will actually go up against them. God forbid anybody say anything negative about the Democrat party. innocent

Hey, I remember having a conversation with a black about politics. At the time she were voting strictly Republican because that party appeared to be the more progressive. Condoleezza Rice! and Bush was promoting Hispanics in the courts. I said that was a simple way to think - to vote strictly on party lines due to race was simple. Now the Democrats are the more progressive because of Obama!!! Haha

Both Republican/Democrat party lie. They are owned by big business. They don't care about diversification but votes. They are not looking out for you but themselves.

Now the big bad Republican party, Rush Limbaugh is called racist. Well a few years ago they were the progressive party??

MSN isn't free in my area. Neither is CNN, MSNBC, or FOX. Those are all on cable. The only news for free here is the local news which the major networks, NBC, CBS, and ABC break for various times a day and also national news programs that come on the major networks such as "Today" and "Good Morning America".

Without cable, it's still the same three networks that have always been around with the exception of two, maybe three of those tired networks such as FOX (not the news channel), UPN, or whatever other one there is these days which I never watch.

Wait. Fox News beats all other Cable News Networks from 6pm - 12am. You are comparing that to the MSM who broadcast from 6pm - 7pm.

But this isn't including how many businesses and tvs are tuned to News broadcasts during the daytime.

News at 6 is a fading phenomenon. As the numbers show, 24hr news is more appreciated (viewership is on the rise at FNC, CNNHN, and MSNBC), and the internet has forever altered how people get their news.

My doctor, who I've been seeing since the year 2000, used to be in an office with three other doctors. In the last year and a half, she has moved to an office that has around 30 doctors. I hate going to the doctor now. I call it the "Clear Channel" doctor's office because it has a very monopoly feel to it. There's no personal friendly atmosphere anymore and the receptionists and money collectors have a shitty attitude like...."if you ain't got the money today, drop dead, we don't care". Anyway, FOX News is ALWAYS on in the waiting room when I go to the doctor these days. It didn't used to be over in the other building. lol

I'm not in the business of saving lives either. And besides, at the other building, they always sent me a bill in the mail after they filed the insurance and the insurance told them what they would pay and what they wouldn't. Those bitches wanted their co-pay up front that day and I had a little money in my pocket that was for something else and wasn't prepared to pay it since they had always billed me at the other building and it was the same doctor I was going to see. I told my doctor about it though (and she is unhappy with the atmosphere up there also and is leaving in May) and those bitches were sweet as pie to me the next time and billed me without me even having to ask.

And what do you mean they aren't getting paid? They wanted a measly little 30 dollar co-pay, they were making their big money off my insurance which they ran up with a whole lot of unnecessary tests. And another thing that pissed me off is that the bitches were sweet as pie to me after they got that insurance money that first time but my brother, who has no insurance and goes to the same doctor, gets shitty treatment from those bitches every time he goes and he pays his bill much better than I do and I have insurance. And he's self employed in construction and when he fell and hurt his leg by accident so naturally he didn't have the money that day because he wasn't expecting to have an accident, those bitches turned him away altogether and told him to go to a free clinic. That's alright though, when their next bill came in the mail for 60 dollars, just for spite, I didn't pay that motherfucker until those bitches threatened to turn it over to a collection agency. Fuck them, they can kiss my ass.

Again, the point is - how many viewers are being reached by Fox News vs. the alleged "liberal media"?

It's important to know that when "conservatives" bleat that "FOX NEWS IS THE BIGGEST NEWS CHANNEL ON CABLE!" that really doesn't mean a whole bunch.

They may be NUMBER ONE ON CABLE but they still don't reach more people than Spanish speaking stations.

Another analogy for you - it would be like saying, "I beat Joe Blow, Sue Somebody and Frank Whosis in the election!!!!" without mentioning that you actually finished 5th, and only got 10% of the vote.

Yeah, you beat those guys but you're still a loser.
