European people tanning and non-Europeans lightening their skin are only similar acts on the surface. But given the social and historical meanings associated with skin colour, they really have next to nothing in common. We are stardust. We are golden.

Is there some sort of ethical commission for commercials in the USA? If so, I think they should ban this one for broadcasting. it's not an American commercial. Jesus still loves you if you get divorce just not as much as before

(but then my question still stands: don't they have an ethical commission?) It's from India. Unfortunately, it seems that for the longest time in cultures all over the world including the U.S. a white woman= success. You see it in athletes You see it in entertainment I just saw a video on TMZ where Alfonso Ribeiro aka Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was on stage at a rock concert bragging about all the white women he's slept with. It's just a stupid stereotype. I've got nothing wrong with interracial dating. Hell, I've done it, and may continue to do it. I don't discriminate. But when you start putting down your own culture and women. Then propping up women from other cultures and treating them as if they're trophies or status symbols instead of human beings. It's not just wrong. It's incredibly fucked up and sends the wrong message!!! That you can only be successful if you're with a white women! Which is pure bullshit. The biggest movie star on the planet is Will Smith. A Black man with a Black Wife. The President of the United States, the leader of the free world is a Black Man with a Black Wife. Thinking like this not only degrades the women of your race, but it degrades White Women as well! I admit, I was guilty of this type of thinking. My mother makes fun of me for that. But I was 7 years old then. What's Ponds' excuse for this thinking? I guess their conditioning has been conditioned. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

It takes all kinds. If someone wishes to change skin color I don't see the shame in it. Some chick get bigger breasts, some reductions. Some people get tons of tats. Some guys want to be girls. Some girls want to be guys on and on. People make the world go around.

People have Freedom to do what they wish with the body. So, from my perspective its almost wrong for people to question one if they wish to change skin color. It's really that simple. And if you are completely white or black that doesn't make you an "inbred" as suggested in other threads. 1000 years from now will someone feel shame for being completely black???? I don't think they should! You were born into the world. Away from the Advertising, people still have freedom! Sure Madison Fucking Avenue is usually off..I mean most guys do not care if a female has some curve. Also advertisers and people have freedoms and they should not feel shame for choices related to changing the human body. It just shows we as humans are still hung up on: RACE. That was a thread about science and genetics. Not morals or racism. Please do not mix the two in this context. Ta. racism? I suspect innocent humour, but at least relevent to the issue of lack of genetic diversity, white or black. However, the point stands that the use of such terms as "isolated gene groups" (inbredding) and "genetic diversity" where i a scientific context, not a social one. Do not imbue motives into a thread that were not there please. Anyway, enough thread jacking.. Its also incredibly insulting to white men as well; suggesting that, despite the implied "feelings" between the white man and the indian women, he can't or won't date her because shes not white. Pretty insulting all round really. OK, fair enough. I was also making a point that its 'ok' to be who you are. You should not feel shame, even if you wish to make changes to your body that is your business. People have the right to be whatever they wish. It comes down to freedom. If MJ wanted to be white that is his freedom. But to say someone is 'inbred' because they are purely white or black? If that was truth and you believed it would you see the need for the product? To hide being inbred. Which I don't believe is the TRUTH.

If you were a product of a lack of genetic diversity, the colour of your skin would not be the market of your problems. Rather your greater risk of medical problems and perhaps psysical abnormalities. But the evolutionary benefits resulting from genetic diversity through breeding is utterly irrelevant to social issues relating to crude jugdgements on skin colour. You;re trying to mix two topics that are seperate. That thread was about genetics (and far from conclusive, it was just one scientists ideas, and not a widely accepted theory). This thread is about human social constructs of race and racism. Stay on target, Luke, stay on target.. However, why (not all) white people tan so much is still not as clear...nor does it make as much sense Because they don't want Melanoma, Basal Cell Carcinom, Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the skin. The tanning industry has taken a hurt due to the rise of skin cancers.
