OUTING Political Figures -- GOOD OR BAD?

I don't like the concept of outing somebody.

It forces them to go through a stage of their self-acceptance when they may or may not be ready for it yet.

However, the senators/congressman that get outed actually have take votes in congress that have been very damaging to the Gay and Lesbian community.

Restrictions on AIDS funding, gay marriage, and so forth. I feel no remorse for those gay ass Senators like Larry Craig. I have no remorse for Florida's own Mark Folley or Charlie Christ either.

Your thoughts?

I'm not for outing in general, but someone who's chosen to go into political service is an exception. By the time you're old enough to be elected, and you're selling yourself as self-aware and knowledgeable enough to represent a community of constituents, you should be open about who you are.

And if you're gay and still are despicable enough to vote against gay issues, then tough titties if you don't want to be outed.

How are they being outed?

If you got caught with your dick in a congressional page, you pretty much outed yourself.

Outing for a purely political motive, as in they are just minding their own business and someone outs them, I would not agree with.

Outing hypocrites is fine with me though. If you are deriding the gay lifestyle when not trolling for bears at the blue oyster, then you need to be called out.

This is untoward! This is not toward!

And it's not just outing gay hypocrites...anyone who goes off about "family values" and then gets busted having an affair or whatever needs to be put on blast as well.

Charlie Christ hasn't been outed, has he?

Generally speaking I have no need to know a politician's sexual preference. However, those on the DL that are being hypocritical deserve what they get.

I see.

To me, they're being outed for being 'hypocrites' moreso than just for sucking dick.

This is the documentary that inspired my thread.

It's no secret in Florida that Charlie Christ is a homosexual. Even his recent marriage didn't do anything to change this. And it's also suspected that he tends to act against gays and lesbians purely for political reasons and not ideological ones. However, this doesn't change the fact that his actions really hurt LBGT families.

Charlie Christ is gay, yall. Gay.

gay.

Gay.

I mean, gay!

And the crazy thing about it is, it simply shouldn't matter that he is indeed gay.

Him being gay is an open secret down here but I'm not sure it's common knowledge in the rest of the country. I wasn't aware of his anti gay stance or actions.

He must be pissed like hell to go through the hassle of getting married only to have Pops McCain ultimately choose Palin over him. lol

And for the record, Christ is probably a moderate. But he has publically defended the law (the only law in the nation at the time he made his statements) preventing LGBT families from adopting children.

Damn, I didn't know that. The good ole boys still got Tallahassee on lock, that's for sure. The fact that he's still scurred of them says a lot. Sound more like a coward than a moderate. Changes his stripes to fit the scenario.

Generally I disagree with outing anyone before they're ready to step out from their closet on their own, even considering that some people will never be ready.

But if someone is actively using their position to fight against the queer community and is sneaking around with same-sex bed buddies and they get caught, they deserve everything they get. It's pretty fucking despicable to use politics to make life harder and even more dangerous for your own kind.

What differences will it make if any political figure get outed for being gay OR bi on a DL if their political views stays the same? Or even worse, what if it confirms that they're on a DL out of self-hating their own human sexuality?

I was totally gonna start a thread about the HBO documentary OUTrage. That was some eyeopening shit. eyepop

They were pouring some MAJOR tea on a lot of high level hypocrites. I had no idea Ed Koch was gay and that some of the highest folks in the Bush administration were also gay. And the drama with Florida's gay governor who JUST got married after a string of beards was ridiculous. disbelief

So I say out these hypocritical "family values" muthafuckas every chance you get. That docu was fucking awesome and showed how detrimental the voting records of these closeted Republicans have been to gay issues on a state and federal level. confused

nod I was finna say that. After the statement from his last beard and his impromptu wedding after it was decided he was gonna be the likely Republican presidential candidate, I think that docu put him all the way out there. God, I hope it's true that they're gonna groom him for the presidency. That scenario will be so juicy and deliciously entertaining it's GOTTA be fattening. lick

That documentary showed the voting records of every one that was "outed" or discussed. All them bitches actively, agressively vote against anything LGBT related. Crist especially so and he keeps voting against letting gays adopt. I think the docu said Florida is the only state that doesn't let gays adopt. I was surprised by that.

Here's a link to the docu page on HBO
