The racist, genocidal Bible! Look at these parts of the Old Testement. Proof that the Bible is not only racist but genocidal:

Oh please...that's not racists since these people are all similar in ethnicity and living near each other and already intermingling. As far as genocide or rather flat out war and murder...people did that to the Israelites already, war was the law of the land (we still do this shit today) and if you are a follower of a false idol (basically Satan) then you deserve whatever God brings down on you.

Numbers 31
1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people." 3 So Moses said to the people, "Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites and to carry out the LORD's vengeance on them. Damn! Even Moses was out to get the Midia, I wonder if they were all left wing too... REGISTER FOR SECRET SANTA 2009!! Go here NOW ---> http://prince.org/msg/100/323760

I wonder how much war and murder was going on before the bible was written. Now that we live in a world that seems to be increasingly more and more agnostic if not flat out anti-religious then how come we are killing more and coming up with more barbaric weaponry? Because according to them they are doing it for Allah because we are the ones that are wrong except them....If it wasnt for said religion they wouldnt be doing this all together. Man doesn't need the Old testament to be cruel to his fellow man...it's what people do! Man looks for excuses to explain away his evil when it's just part of his being. Also, why don't you point out parts of the old testament where God is blessing his people? Why don't you focus on the new testament where there's not as much war and killing? Both scriptures are just stories told by people and what they seen / thought / and believed. We were not there to witness it and God/Jesus/Allah/Mohammed whatever did not write any of those passages. people just take the word as truth and treat it as their own without question. Fellow man makes this human like God to judge other human beings too as a stance to kill other people just as much as they use human like God to love other people. Both Testaments are mere stories of the background of the world as they saw it not providing any details on any other cultural upbringing. I suggest both of you read alot more and study more than the Bible and come to terms with your truths by facts. There is no proof that these stories are fiction or fact. Its the way of the world....and I move on [Edited 9/24/09 8:45am] When we say that the purpose of life is to find God, surely that desire to find God is an escape from life -Conciouscontact

^ Okay I'm not sure what your point is. You believe the bible or no? You believe man is inherently both good and evil or no? Why you bring up Allah? That's the muslim name for God/Jehovah/Yahweh and they aren't the only ones who kill or have killed. Stalin murdered 20 million of his own people and he was not religious at all.

Not everything no You believe man is inherently both good and evil or no? Don't believe in "evil". More so its negative energy created by human mindset. Why you bring up Allah? Because negative people use Allah as a reason to kill recently. Which is associated with their form of the religion. That's the muslim name for God/Jehovah/Yahweh and they aren't the only ones who kill or have killed. Stalin murdered 20 million of his own people and he was not religious at all . If it wasn't for said religion who wouldn't be doing what? So if it weren't for religion then human beings would be saints and there would be no war? No war over resources, no war between governments, no war over another man's woman, land, child? Everything would be all peaches and cream? I'm not understanding where you are going with your post. Im talking about Al-Queida to be honest. Just as I am assuming you were in your post "Now that we live in a world that seems to be increasingly more and more agnostic if not flat out anti-religious then how come we are killing more and coming up with more barbaric weaponry? " They are the ones who are claiming their religion everytime they do something negative. I only had used that as an example. Fellow man makes this human like God to judge other human beings too as a stance to kill other people just as much as they use human like God to love other people.
The point I was trying to make is that both Testaments are negative and positive..I was also suggesting to both of you other research instead of the bible. Even though this post was about the negative aspect of the bible...thus the person who posted it is taking it as word of truth as you have seem to be influnced also. I just suggest to come to your own conclusions. This argument is invalid..Im out lol When we say that the purpose of life is to find God, surely that desire to find God is an escape from life -Conciouscontact

This quote here is the typical "Christian" response, the high and mighty "we are right, everyone else is going to hell" attitude that turns off so many people to Christianity. It is what the hell it is.

You think Christians are the only ones with the concept of good and evil spirits? Where is the high and mighty aspect? If you do wrong then you get punished and that is the fact of every religion and political ideology and justice system. I don't think people are turned off to Christianity anymore than they are turned off to Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Buddhism or any faith that believes in consequences for wrong doings and good versus evil. The difference is, though, that most Eastern religions, such as Buddhism, etc, are TOLERANT of other people's religious views, and they don't tell them that "you're going to HELL" if you don't repent, blah blah blah. That is the difference. So-called Christians are so quick to pass judgement and are highly intolerant of differing views. That is the point that I am making. They preach love but obviously don't practice it. Hypocrisy runs rampant in the church. It is what the hell it is.

Where do you get this information from? What church are you talking about? You've been to every single Christian church and know every single Christian thereby determining them all to be passing judgement and highly intolerant? Now that's a typically ignorant and intolerant statement itself. That's like saying most black people steal, most gays are immoral and women are not as smart as men. Yep, those are the 4 typical statements from people who like to pigeon hole, pass judgement and point the finger. "

and that is all I have to say about this matter. I can only speak from personal experience, and after reading what you said, it's no wonder why people don't want to go to church. It is what the hell it is.

Yep, those are the 4 typical statements from people who like to pigeon hole, pass judgement and point the finger. OK but your experience is not the same experience for everyone else so therefore it IS intolerant and ignorant of you to paint everyone with the same brush just because of SOME people you have met and SOME churches you have visited. This is the problem I have with right wing nut jobs/religious fanatics in that they think their experience is supposed to become universal fact for everyone else. I likewise see the same issue with liberal folk who think the same way - what they see/hear/feel is also representative of what they don't see/hear/feel. That's probably why our world is in such chaos because all of us think we are right and allow our personal experiences to keep us boxed into a specific frame of mind albeit limited. I've felt disenfranchised myself but when I meet a good Christian or a good human being of any religious affiliation then my faith in a higher being and humanity is renewed. I've met some Christians who walk the walk and do things that I probably wouldn't like take in random homeless people, take care of people who have full blown aids, adopt special needs children, give money away to charity and donate money to better their communities. I've also seen some Christians who do things that I wouldn't like hurt people, promote war, discriminate and so on. I've seen non-believers do all of these things too. My point is that one form of intolerance and hipocrisy is not that much worse than another. As for biblical times, if war among tribes was the norm and one tribes God preaches to them to smite their enemies so that their people may live then that's the way it was. It sounds horrible, killing entire peoples, but we do this with or without religion. And technically, there was no Christianity in old testament...they were Israelites and Hebrews. Also, what's wrong with having no sympathy for people in the bible who lost the war against the Israelites? It was war at the hands of one's supreme leader and we do the same thing today. Militaries go to war on behalf of their country and at the order of their leader (political). It is what it is no? "

The bible can in no way said to be a reliable historical account. Many key events it describes have been proven to have never occured. No serious scholar considers it history, merely stories. Now if someone stands against you its only a matter of time before war starts. You have basic human history to back that statement up. Deviod of religion man would still fight over what we always fight over.....MONEY.
So the best that can be said for religion is that it results in behaviour no better or no worse than that which would be seen without it? So much for us requiring religion to be moral Now if someone is at war with you, you will have conflict death etc. The bible documents this. Man this is a silly silly silly post. I also agree that , in order to do just that, a much larger study of the bible is required. Only then can we agree that the bible is indeed a "pathetic" relic of mankinds infancy which showcases the violence, ignorance, and cultural prejudices of the day. People who don't believe in the bible sure do spend a lot of time cherry picking what they don't like about it. Also, if for those who believe the bible to be pathetic, filled with ignorance, violence, and prejudices, they must also believe mankind itself (ourselves) is violent, ignorant and culturaly prejudice given that not much has changed in human behavior, needs, and desires since bible times. Sounds like some people use the bible as a crutch for how they really feel about mankind and with that said, why remain a part of such an ill fated species? If there is no beauty in the bilbe or other religious texts and there is no beauty in mankind then why not make your exit from this cruel cruel world? "

Thats why I always try to advise people who take the bible as truth word for word or take the bible as lies and lies to study other teachings of life that don't have to do with the Bible or religious merit. I try to teach people to take the bible as a historical text rather than personal belief. I just feel people will benefit for themselves in that manner. That is the difference. So-called Christians are so quick to pass judgement and are highly intolerant of differing views. That is the point that I am making. They preach love but obviously don't practice it. Hypocrisy runs rampant in the church.
Your statements are very intolerant and broad-sweeping. My church NEVER tells anybody they are going to hell; it is very specifically against what we believe. Do we believe that there are things go against our spiritual nature? Absolutely. But it is God's and God's alone to determine the judgement that will be passed on an individual. Like many arguments grounded in the old testament, the author provided no hermeneutical basis for that argument. No relevant argument can be made without that context. All points listed were examples of nations who had found themselves under righteous judgement. Those nations allowed their hearts to be darkened, and therefore were masters of their own fate. Is this easy to understand in today's culture? By no means. But if you really look into culture (not just world culture, but the interaction between God and man as it is described in scripture), it is a little easier to get the whole picture.

That is Christianity. It is not about right and wrong, it just is. If you are a Christian then you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and that there is no other way to the Father except through Him. If a Christian believed that everyone else wasn't going to hell, they wouldn't be a Christian regardless of what Obama says. Louie Gohmert Speaker of the House 2011

There is beauty and truth to be had in the Bible and other Holy texts, just as there is in humanity. But there is also hate, ignorance, and fear in both as well. In many ways Holy Books can be read as sort of a microcosm of our species. We are stardust. We are golden.

That belief is so clearly self-serving it's hard to fathom hwo anyone could take it seriously. Anything with such an obvious bias needs to be examined and questioned. And what the fuck does Obama have to do with this conversation? Stay on topic, please. We are stardust. We are golden.

On the contrary, I think the context highlights the truth that the Bible contains seeds for hate and fear. The Bible was transcribed by humans (whether you do or don't believe it was Divinely inspired) and was edited by humans to serve their own, usually dubious, wants. To use the quotes used by the OP as an example, why would God punish a nation by killing it's children? That seems to me like nothing but a xenophobic "us versus them" fantasy on the part of the human authors. [Edited 9/28/09 13:19pm] We are stardust. We are golden.
