2 Shot Dead at Gay Youth Center in Tel Aviv A gunman shot dead two people and wounded at least 15 others in an attack at a central Tel Aviv gay and lesbian center Saturday night before fleeing the scene.
Israel Police said that the incident at the club on Nahmani Street did not have a terror motive. The two victims were initially identified as a 24-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman. Witnesses told Israeli television that the black-clad, masked gunman stormed into the Tel Aviv Gay and Lesbian Association building and opened fire in a basement room where gay teenagers were holding a weekly support group. http://www.facebook.com/e...Jta&ref=mf Hundreds of Israelis have joined a rally organised by the gay community after shootings at a gay youth centre.
Two people died and at least 11 were hurt when the gunman opened fire at the Tel Aviv Gay and Lesbian Association before fleeing. The city's Mayor, Ron Huldai, said the motive was unclear and police declined to comment except to say a Palestinian link was not suspected. But the protesters condemned the attack as Israel's worst hate crime. Do we still need to question the need for Hate Crimes Legislation? Targeting people simply because of their sexuality as a reason they must die? it is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives. If we find we cannot help others, the least we can do is to desist from harming them.

Its sad when this crap happens, 30 years after all the activism and rights recognition, gay people are still subject to attacks by haters, and in Israel of all places.

It happens a lot here, a gay person is murdered, and the murderer always pleads provocation and gets off with a manslaughter sentence, because the murderer claims the gay victim came on to him and therefore he had to protect him from the predator and the homophobic justice system laps it up. Difference here is the victimes did nothing to provoke the gunman 40 years since stonewall, 43 years since the Compton's Cafeteria uprising. it is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives. Wow. It is sad that we all can't just get along with each other. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the injured and to the families who lost their young children. 24 years old and 17, wow. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara | |

Saturday's fatal shooting attack at a gay youth center in Tel Aviv bears all the markings of a terror attack, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Thursday during a visit to the scene of the incident.
Weizmann: Netanyahu expressed support for the gay community Netanyahu said that while all murders were shocking, Saturday night's killings were particularly so. "The idea of someone entering a youth club and beginning to commit serial murder - it bears the markings of a terror attack," he said. The premier said he believed stereotyping and denigrating people was wrong and unacceptable. "We are all created in god's image. We all have fundamental rights, the first of which is to be treated with respect by others and give [them] the same respect," he said. "Anyone who has suffered from gratuitous hatred, as an individual or in a group, knows how painful and unacceptable it is. This is something we must uproot from society as much as possible," he added. "I think Israeli society has made progress towards tolerance, and I hope and feel certain that we can make further progress." http://www.jpost.com/serv...2FShowFull it is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives. I like the fact that the police declined to comment on the case, except to say it did not have a Palestinian link - it feels a little like the Jewish-Palestinian conflict is the only prism through which Israel sees and interprets the whole world, the only barometer against which it assesses everything. In such a context, I'm not surprised if Gay&Lesbian rights get little attention.
