This Is The Infamous Interview That Killed Arsenio Hall's Career...

Its intersting to me that when Brother minister have been a guest at Barbara & Mike Wallace' shows and it expanded their resume,,,,,but when he showed up @ Arsenio's, it ended his career. I'm proud of him for pulling the courage that Oprah & Montell lacked, easily the BEST interview he ever conducted.

Enjoy!

If he was indeed on his way out before Farrakhan, media moguls wouldn't threw a fit and demanded him to denounce his invitation to Farrakhan.

Even before the plan interview with Min. Farrakhan, the TV ratings for the final season The Arsenio Hall Show were already dropping because of too many complaints from some (non-black) viewers that Arsenio were having rap artists on his show too often.

Keep in mind that Jay Leno & David Letterman always had country and/or rock artists on their shows around this time. But it's so easily to read between the lines that Arsenio was becoming too hood for his own good (Paramount Television's opinion).

Tupac "Makaveli" Shakur (RIP 1971-1996) & Michael Jackson (RIP 1958-2009)

2 men that had their lives taken away the moment they were speaking out AND rebelling against the dark side of the music industry once too often.

Paramount Television already gave Arsenio an advance notice that his show was going to get cancel before the start of the 5th (and final) season. And since Arsenio had nothing else left to lose, he invited Min. Farrakhan to the show.

Then why were celebrities & industry people were rioting against him if they already knew that his show was getting the axe anyway?

Also(and correct if I'm wrong) but weren't there negotiations with HBO to make a show for him as well? hmmm

Yes, he was. And that's exactly why he had Farakkhan on. Unfortunately for Arsenio, that one action fucked off his career and how he didn't know that he was gonna get blackballed for that is beyond me. It's probably a case of a dude thinking he was more than what he actually was.

yeah, like he thought he was gonna kick Jay Leno's ass. Jay Leno lasted way longer than him.

I think I saw Arsenio in the audience of the BET Awards. confuse

I think Jay even had a joke in his monologue the day Arsenio got canned referring to Arsenio's claim of kicking his ass. What's even funnier is how Arsenio has been on Jay's show many times since then. Humble pie is good, especially when yo ass is outta work. clapping

My guess is he must have burned his bridges with Eddie Murphy. You'd think he could have always been Rob Schneider to Eddie's Adam Sandler.

Shit, it's true! Eddie knew the Jewish community wasn't too cool with Senio for that shit and Ed knew Senio was toxic.

Looking at it from today´s perspective, I find it almost unbelievable that someone like Arsenio would lose his job because of being "too hood".I mean, judging by today´s standards, what he was doing back then was totally OK, IMO.
I don´t understand the controversy. What happened to freedom of speech?

Why aren't there any Black late-night mainstream talk-show hosts? hmmm Magic Johnson cancelled.(no comment cool ) Keenan cancelled. Chris Rock gone from HBO. Arsenio cancelled...Tavis Smiley asks no hard questions which is why he may still be 'talking.'

Or for that matter Asian or Hispanic, etc?

I rather watch George Lopez's talk show (coming out soon) than Mo'Nique's.

I've seen the ads. I'll watch it. And I could be wrong, but I doubt it will last. That's why I asked about late night hosts. There are some great comedians and others who I think would be wonderful for the job. (Chris Tucker, a toned down Chapelle...(I saw such a thing on The Actor's Studio) wink Are they just afraid of what happened with Arsenio and others?
