Ask yourself this,

If a GOP member flipped it so a white guy threw a black guy off a cliff and emailed it to their buddies, what do you think the reaction in P+R would be?

Not a good comparison. This guy is a comedian. Politicians aren't.

The joke is the joke. So that means that is a comedian tells it I should laugh but if any old black guy tells it then it is not funny and i shouldn't?

Do me a favour mate.

The question/comparison is good, it makes NO difference WHO says it.

well it wouldnt make any sense if that were the joke. white guys havent been oppressed by black guys for centuries and thus have no impetus to throw one off a mountain

Look mate, it's called an opinion. We all have 'em, and they're all our own points of view. I say no, you say yes. Doesn't mean either of us is right or wrong. It means we see it differently. A comedian is there to entertain. A politician telling this at some function (or otherwise while he/she's in office) isn't representing the people as a whole, which is their job. A comedian, you know the gloves are off and you understand they could say anything. You take it with a grain of funny salt.

Yes, we agree that a joke is a joke. But who tells it is the other thing.

So a comedian on stage by default = not racist because it is all a joke?

Go look up Roy Chubby Brown. See if you are ok with his racist bs. He is a comedian, on stage entertaining. So I guess it is all fair game in your eyes.

I also was unaware that in the US when you are in power you are no longer allowed to laugh, joke or generally enjoy yoursefl. My bad. rolleyes

I laughed at it.

I think a lot depends on the context of the joke, the setup, and the person telling it. Based on all of that in what I saw in the clip, I thought it was funny and it didn't bother me at all.

No, it's not racist. It's racial.

The punchline is historical. People laugh because they get the black man's grievance in the punchline. What makes it funny is the historical context.

Big difference.

Michael Richards used a racial slur at people he believed were heckling his bombing comedy routine. He used it, basically, to attack hecklers.

Comedians attack hecklers all the time. Nothing new. But, it wasn't part of his routine; it was a personal attack.

The joke in the O.P. is about history.

What is sad and I feel racist is this fact he can not avoid using the word motherfucker in the telling of the joke or talking. That word seems to be entrenched in the vernacular of the black comedian. Now you will think thats racist generalising, but it seems to be true in most cases. When was the last time you heard a black comedian not swear in his act, the only one I can think of is Bill Cosby.
