Russian Web site makes extraordinary attack on Palin

The Russian media Web site Pravda has published a front page article slamming US vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

The extraordinary attack likens Palin to the devil, refers to her as the 'know-it-all shreiking cow from Alaska,' and 'the joke of American politics.'

Provoking the attack was a claim by Palin in an ABC television interview that the gates of hell would open if Russia invaded Georgia again.

The article said: 'So Sarah Palin, Mrs. Hockey Mom housewife-cum-small-town gossip merchant and cheap little guttersnipe, suppose you shut up and allowed real politicians and diplomats to do their work.'

The Pravda article continued: 'Threatening Russia with a war is perhaps the most irresponsible thing anyone could do at this moment in time. Have you any idea what a nuclear holocaust is? Have you any notion of the power of Russia’s armed forces? Did you know that Russia has enough missiles to destroy any target anywhere on Earth in seconds?'

'And have you not forgotten, you pith-headed little bimbo from the back of beyond, that small detail about the slaughter of Russian citizens by Georgians, which started the whole debacle? So next time suppose you keep your mouth shut and while you’re at it, make sure the members of your family keep their legs shut too. Your country has enough failed mothers as it is.'

The opinion piece penned by Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey suggested Ms Palin had been 'plied with a couple of vodkas,' before doing her interview with ABC.

Bancroft-Hinchey also described John McCain's Republican running-mate's experience as 'small town politics, mothers´day dos' and the local hockey club.'

Pravda has been online since 1999. It is operated by former journalists of the newspaper of the same name, which was closed down by then-Soviet President Boris Yeltsin in 1991.

...and this is just the beginning of hearing coments like that. It's obvious many people around the world besides many American citizens, don't see her as the best VP candidate.

Even so that piece is only opinion still that piece indicated the Russians and also other countries outside USA are watching the elections and what the candiates are saying closely. Dumb move on Palin part for openly suggestion of having war with Russia, and even Bush ain't that dumb enough to indicate that idea.

The war thing is just running in all of them even their kids. I think Palin needs to go back to COLLEGE. Maybe the teacher would teach her something better than those war words. Sheâ��s just a pastor with plans of war! I want to suggest something for her. She should pull out from the campaign now cuz well, I know AMERICANS knows better than war! If the Republicans really are thinking about going to war with Russia in the near future they'd better be prepared. Russian bomber airplanes have been flying suspiciously close to Icelandic territory recently, near the east coast of the country. It's a shame that the Bush administration decided to close the Keflavik NATO airbase 2 years ago. At the time they must have thought that Russia wasn't a threat to the security of the US (and other NATO nations, including Iceland itself) but our Prime Minister, Geir Haarde, has said that Americans were a little bit too quick to pull back their military from the North Atlantic zone, especially given Russia's actions in Georgia. I think that's a fair assessment.
In regards to that opinion piece, it's written by a British guy who happens to live in Russia, so I don't know how well that represents Russian public opinion. I'm no fan of Sarah Palin but calling her a "cow", "gossip merchant" and "guttersnipe" is no better than the bullshit you hear constantly from Sean Hannity and other conservative wackos about Obama.

The new Pravda newspaper, which is what we are talking about as far I as understand, has no relation to the orinal Pravda newspaper founded in 1912, apart from the fact that it was started by a few staff members of the now defunct official Communist paper.

It's a tabloid-style paper with next to nil influence.
