Palin unavailable for the next two weeks - UPDATE - ABC interview this week

Sarah Palin will spend the next two weeks in Alaska, unavailable to the press.

if she's qualified to be VP, knows her stuff, is ready to "take on Washington" - why can't she answer any questions?

Andrew Sullivan (of whom i'm not a huge fan) has a thought or two about it, and i agree:

http://andrewsullivan.the...for-t.html

This is incredible, totally incredible. A vice presidential candidate isn't going to be available to the press for two weeks? Two weeks? In September. We have this total unknown who could be president of the United States next January. And she's in hiding for two weeks. Chris Matthews on this clip says that this is fine. Has he lost his mind? She needs to be in front of the press now. The United States and the world cannot have this total unknown foisted on the presidency without any serious vetting and without any press interaction. This is absolutely third world. Since when is the governor of a state given two weeks in hiding?

The sexism that implies that someone cannot stand up to reporters because she is a woman is appalling. This entire pick, of course, is incredibly sexist, and the handling of her in the last week the most sexist double standard I have ever seen in American politics. Can you imagine Hillary Clinton saying she wasn't going to answer questions for two weeks? Or Margaret Thatcher? Or Kay Bailey Hutchison? Or Elizabeth Dole? And none of these women were ever as close to global power as Sarah Palin now is. This is getting to Manchurian Candidate levels of creepiness. It's deeply sinister and slightly terrifying.

That's fucking ridiculous! Who do they think they are fooling--they are using the next two weeks to give her a crash course on all the stuff she *should* have known before being nominated. You know, like, foreign policy, US History, what the VP f*cking does. disbelief

McCain's whole campaign is becoming more and more of a joke. Too bad the ring wing nutters in middle America are too in denial to see it.

I'm so right! I just looked up the dates of the debates (b/c I am going to have a debate watching party). Look what the debate focus is for the VP debate:

SECOND DEBATE
Vice Presidential debate
Date: Thursday, October 2, 2008
Debate focus: Domestic and foreign policies

Location: Washington University
St. Louis, Missouri

falloff The VP debate may be even more entertaining than I initially thought.

this shows why everything about leftist thought is completely impervious to facts, reality, and reason. it is for them unfalsifiable.

if Palin had been, as she was, on McCain's short list, and some female reporter asked him why he didn't pick palin over jindal, and mccain replied "well she has a young child and is a mother of 5. a VP job, in my view, is just too much for her to take on."

the supposed feminists now screaming Sexism!" would have screamed the same thing if he declined her for the very reasons they are now attacking her.

chill pill lol

it would seem to me that if mccain selected her or anybody relatively unknown and decided to keep that person locked in a closet for 2 months, then we are all free to vote on that, taking into account our level of trust and familiarity with the candidates involved.

i really don't see how any candidate owes anybody anything. make your choices based on any number of things -- not least if you wish, how they campaigned and how much they opened themselves up to the public and press, and how much you feel like you got to know him or her.

Oh just stop it! She is not going to get sympathy playing the "my family" card. If she was that concerned about being there for her son, she wouldn't have drop kicked him right smack in the middle of the spectacle of a national campaign!

If she'd been an at least slightly known candidate already, I might be inclined to make an exception but the fact that she was when we met her and STILL is a literal UNKNOWN to the majority of Americans at such a critical time in the electoral process, makes it inexcusable for her to now want a 2 week hiatus!

Obama, who's been on the campaign trail for 19 months, took a week off recently to spend some much needed time with his family and the Republicans called him a slacker but we're just supposed to give Sarah Palin a pass? Oh hell no!!

YES WE DID!!! President Barack Obama!!!

Mathhew Scully: Palin's Speechwriter

Bush speechwriter had crafted the words even before Palin was picked, according to reports. Once Palin was picked,, he tailored the speech to her. Scully worked as a speechwriter for Bush for 5 years, starting in the 2000 campaign. He has also written speeches for Cheney & Dan Quayle.

Is the McCain campaign afraid to let her speak without a script???

It's not surprising. Time Magazine's politics blog had quotes this past week from Alaskan politicians who had heard NOTHING about Palin being up for McCain's VP slot.

The whole thing sounds like a last-minute gamble. shrug I'm sure she's being coached in advance of the debates.

But, I'm equally sure the same is true of Biden, too.

And? I am pretty sure that Biden aint holed up somewhere not speaking to the pres for 2 weeks. I am also pretty sure that Biden is not afraid to answer questions about Obama or himself. Why is Palin being allowed to get a free pass?

1. You're PRESUMING that this is how she'd spend her time.

2. Why should she be entitled to special privilege to be with her son before he deploys? And in the middle of an election when the country needs her more than ever? There are families all across the nation that can't get a week off from work when they have loved ones being sent into battle. bananadance

Now that I've watched the video, Score for McCain. Prepping her for the debate and the issues, which as smart and fast as she is, will work wonders when she appears before the media.

The left and liberals can bitch and moan bout where is she? but that isn't going to affect middle american when she goes on the TV and "POPS".

Like it or not Barry is being surpassed by a new rising star.

Oh but go ahead and keep the bashing going, its working wonders for Palin's numbers.

And those of us who just don't think she's qualified . . . Is that bashing also?
Is any dissent from McCain's decision allowed?

Meanwhile, civic knowledge is enhanced by discussing public affairs, taking part in civic activities and reading about current events and history, the group said.
