Cindy McCain's $300,000 Outfit

Cindy McCain's $300,000 Outfit
by Vanity Fair
September 4, 2008, 10:29 AM

One of the persistent memes in the Republican line of attack against Barack Obama is the notion that he is an elitist, whereas the G.O.P. represent real working Americans like Levi “F-in’ Redneck” Johnston.

It caught our attention, then, when First Lady Laura Bush and would-be First Lady Cindy McCain took the stage Tuesday night wearing some rather fancy designer clothes. So we asked our fashion department to price out their outfits.

Laura Bush
Oscar de la Renta suit: $2,500
Stuart Weitzman heels: $325
Pearl stud earrings: $600–$1,500
Total: Between $3,425 and $4,325

Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100

Wow! No wonder McCain has so many houses: his wife has the price of a Scottsdale split-level hanging from her ears.

(All prices except Laura’s shoes and Cindy’s watch are estimates, and the jewelry prices are based on the assumption that the pieces are real.)

I'd wear Cindy's dress if I had the money.

BUT

That's not the thing to be parading around in if you're going to be presenting yourself as on level with Joe and Jane Average. And especially not if a major part of your attack strategy on the opposing side is their elitism. no no no!

I'm not hating. I congratulate their wealth. It's what I aim for. Although I'd be a Target shopper for life. Yes they may be schmucks. But I NEVER hate on someone for their wealth. They were blessed and I aim for that same blessing. People that attain financial gain know that in order to do that, they allign themselves with people who have success. Now, being a crook is one thing, but let God take care of that later.

That being said, I'd never vote for McCain, but I am never jealous or mad about someone's wealth. You cannot gague who did what to get their money, but hell I'm working for that "status" too.

I was gonna be generous and say she just got out of the shower before she had to rush off to the limo, and didn't have time to blowdry her 'do.

I mean, I'm not American so I guess my opinion's not quite as valid as some of yours will be come election time. But 3 grand for a dress, and you're supposed to be appealing to the All-Americans? Shit. I only make 7 grand more than what that dress cost a year.

It speaks volumes about the arrogance in the McCain camp, to me, that anyone directly associated with John would have the audacity to wear something this expensive and not think people would react to it.

um that (or how I read this thread) is $300 000 for the dress
not $3000

so unless you earnt $307 000 USDollars last year it may put things into focus a little.
alternately , If I'm wrong and you did earn US$307 000 last year we might look at a licensing agreement for your sig, Catholic Worker always needs funding from the well off!

thanks for clearing the confusion up, bottom line is $300 000 wearing out is beyond my comprehension but so is a $60 000 car.

but not a $4500 Bass Guitar!

What? That is all u got to say, Hiin? I mean you Right Wingers whine about how Obama claims to be an "elitist", but come up with "She's looking good" when people show how out of touch Republicans are.
