Jesse Jackson says sorry to Obama for 'crude' remark

How is a conversation "private" when there's a FOX NEWS mic in your damn face??? confuse

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson apologized to Barack Obama on Wednesday for making a "crude" remark about him, which was picked up by a live television microphone.

Jackson said the Fox News microphone picked up his disparaging remarks about the way Obama, vying to be America's first black president, addresses the African American community.

"For any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused, I apologize," Jackson said in a statement, which did not specify the exact remark.

"My support for Senator Obama's campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal. I cherish this redemptive and historical moment.

"My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility," Jackson said.

"That was the context of my private conversation and it does not reflect any disparagement on my part for the historic event in which we are involved or my pride in Senator Barack Obama, who is leading it."

Later, in an interview on CNN, Jackson said he had said "something I regret was crude. It was very private. And very much a sound bite."

Jackson, 66, is a former associate of assassinated civil rights leader Martin Luther King, and made his own unsuccessful runs for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984 and 1988.

What I heard was that paraphrase here, Jackson wanted to rip Obama's nuts off for throwing Wright under the bus.

That's what I found on Politico. Though I don't think the live transcript has been released yet.

What the F is he talking about?
Government is morally responsible for my individual choices?

but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility," Jackson said.

So government now has a moral responsibility to provide a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility?

Maybe their irresponsibility for themselves and their actions got them into trouble. Government is not and should not be a moral arbiter or standard bearer.
That should be the individual, parents, and houses of worship.

I guess all black people need is the government to play Daddy.

Fox should be airing it and cumming all over themselves right about now. But as Lazy said it was pretty close to:

"He is cutting his dick off with ni***rs"

Jessie's words, not mine. I think he's fucking the whole country over, but that's another thread.

That's the astonishing thing to me, that Fox has NOT released this juicy lil soundbite. Usually you hear what happened before the perpetrator issues an apology. He musta said something REALLY bad. eek Can't wait to hear it from Jesse's own mouth.

This is now on Fox's site.

http://elections.foxnews....ma-remarks
The Rev. Jesse Jackson apologized Wednesday for saying Barack Obama is “talking down to black people” during what Jackson thought was a private conversation with a FOX News reporter Sunday.

Jackson was speaking at the time about Obama’s speeches in black churches and his support for faith-based charities. Jackson added to the reporter, “I want to cut his nuts off.”

At a hastily arranged news conference Wednesday evening in Chicago, Jackson said he supports Obama “unequivocally” and that he hopes to “get this behind me.”

“I have great passion for this campaign and traveled across the country … arguing the case for the campaign,” Jackson said. “And this thing I said in a hot-mic statement that’s interpreted as a distraction, I offer apology for that. I don’t want harm or hurt to come to this campaign.”

He said, “They were hurtful and wrong … but we have a relationship that can survive this.”

Jackson said in a written statement he was trying to emphasize that Obama’s moral message should “not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy.”

Jackson said the conversation “does not reflect any disparagement on my part for the historic event in which we are involved or my pride in Senator Barack Obama, who is leading it, whom I have supported by crisscrossing this nation in every level of media and audience from the beginning in absolute terms.”

Jackson told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he doesn’t remember exactly what he said Sunday but that he was “very sorry” for his comments about Obama. He called his comments “a side light in a broader conversation about urban disparities.”

Jackson said he has called Obama’s campaign to apologize.

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton noted that the Illinois senator grew up without his father and has spoken and written at length about the issues of parental responsibility and fathers participating in their children’s lives, and of society’s obligation to provide “jobs, justice and opportunity for all.

“He will continue to speak out about our responsibilities to ourselves and each other, and he of course accepts Reverend Jackson’s apology,” Burton said.

His own namesake didn't appreciate his comments at all!

http://www.huffingtonpost...11732.html

a very harsh statement from Jackson's son, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.:

I'm deeply outraged and disappointed in Reverend Jackson's reckless statements about Senator Barack Obama. His divisive and demeaning comments about the presumptive Democratic nominee -- and I believe the next president of the United States -- contradict his inspiring and courageous career.

Instead of tearing others down, Barack Obama wants to build the country up and bring people together so that we can move forward, together -- as one nation. The remarks like those uttered on Fox by Reverend Jackson do not advance the campaign's cause of building a more perfect Union.

Reverend Jackson is my dad and I'll always love him. He should know how hard that I've worked for the last year and a half as a national co-chair of Barack Obama's presidential campaign. So, I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric. He should keep hope alive and any personal attacks and insults to himself.

YES WE DID!!! President Barack Obama!!!

It's time to Speak On It, America!

On the bright side, it appears Rev. Jackson will or at least should no longer have that 'black leader' tag.

And to be upbraided publicly by your son who has your name . . . priceless?

Seriously, what business does Jesse Jackson have being a "Man of God" or "Leader" or "Pastor" to anyone when he can't guard his own tongue or penis? The man is an adulterer, and he is constantly saying stupid things against his brother Barack Obama, whom he should be doing everything possible to support and defend. I used to have respect for Jesse Jackson, now there's not a shred left. mad

In all fairness, Jesse Jackson has been part of the civil rights movement for half a century. He walked side by side with MLK in civil rights protests of the 50's. A few years ago, I transcribed an hour-long interview with him because he is appearing in a documentary made by a friend of mine. I was impressed by what a deep, intelligent, passionate, articulate thinker he is.

You would never know this by his presentation in the media. I also know that he is a bit jumbled up as a person and has a need for spiritual advisors and guidance in his own life. Being a reverend himself, he probably took the Wright controversy personally. Whatever. He makes a fool of himself, but he's more than that too.
