California racism

We were sayinh that New York is pretty heavy on racism being that it's a progressive part og the country. What abut California? Like Texas it's in The Southwest and there are alot of liberals.

Working up a purple sweat.

I will say this, I know for a fact that in Republican country here in Cali there are racist sentiments. But that holds true in what can be considered liberal areas as well. However there is a lot of racist tension between brown and black as well. It swings both ways.

yes there is racism but i would say there is more subtle prejudices that folks aren't even aware of possessing.

Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Yes I'm aware of the black-hispanic battle in Southern California. What caused it?

There really isn't a battle, but tensions have risen in two aspects. One, the gang violence has turned from territorial to racist in some regards. Word is one of the large Latino gangs in prison put the word out to target Blacks at random, and also run them out of neighborhoods they once used to dominate. The media of course just hypes this up to no end. Many areas in the hood' that used to be controlled by Black gangs are now majority Latino.

For example, a young Black teen (honor student, no gang affiliation of course) was shot to death in Mid-City, a very diverse, quiet area that is virtually gang free as a result of "target practice". His alleged killer, a Latino gang member had just been released from jail and was illegal. So the media is just having a field day with this and trying to stir up anti-immigrant fervor amongst other things. But again, that's mostly a gang issue and in terms of economics when the economy is bad, there is no money on the streets (i.e. drug/gun trade) and everybody- regardless of ethncity- starts fighting and shooting!

On the other end of the spectrum, many working and middle class Black neighborhoods are becoming more Latino and this makes upper middle class and wealthy Blacks nervous. Cultural institutions and political activism are in jeopardy and already troubled public schools have difficulties. Because now you have language learners getting more funding and attention than those who may struggle in other regards but are not Latino. And teachers of all backgrounds just flee all the drama and go to private and/or charter schools And then of course there's the delicate issue of taxes.....

I don't think the tension is as bad on either side as the media makes it out to be. It will be a difficult road for both sides to navigate because the gang violence is only going to get worse as the economy continues to tank and the heat of summer comes closer.

Yeah, even as liberal as Cali is, there's a strong dosage of racism. Some subtle, some blatant, but it's there. The strongest and most obvious example is the police force's everyday presentation of how they police certain groups of people, regardless of where they stay but a lot of times ESPECIALLY because of where they stay.

Yes there is, but it's kind of weird, or maybe that's just prespective, it seems to display itself differently than in different regions of the US. It was mentioned above about the issues between black and brown gangs targeting one another, but what's the difference, they target each other anyway regardless of skin color, brown kills brown, black kills black, somebody ends up dead either way.

Never again, not I.
