Gays Mocking the Last Supper

Homosexuals Mock 'Last Supper' With Sex-Toys Twist
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Senior Editor
September 25, 2007

(CNSNews.com) - Organizers of San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair -- sponsored by Miller Brewing Co. -- have portrayed Christ and his disciples as half-naked homosexual sadomasochists in the event's promotional advertisement, and the conservative group Concerned Women for America is complaining about the hypocrisy of it.

"The bread and wine representing Christ's broken body and lifegiving blood are replaced with sadomasochistic sex toys in this twisted version of Da Vinci's The Last Supper," CWA said on its Web site.

"'Gay' activists disingenuously call Christians 'haters' and 'homophobes' for honoring the Bible, but then lash out in this hateful manner toward the very people they accuse," said said Matt Barber, CWA's policy director for cultural issues.

"In their version of The Last Supper, Christ, Who gave His life for our sins, is despicably replaced by sin itself as the object of worship."

CWA is calling on California politicians -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sens. Feinstein and Boxer among them -- to "publicly condemn this unprovoked attack against Christ and His followers.

"We further challenge the media to cover this affront to Christianity with the same vigor as recent stories about cartoon depictions of Mohammed and other items offensive to the Muslim community," CWA said.

The Folsom Street Fair describes itself as "the world's largest leather event."

"We hope to see the fairgrounds filled with people in their most outrageous leather/rubber/fetish attire enjoying the worlds largest and best loved Leather fair," the Web site says.

Concerned Women for America called it "shocking and offensive" that California taxpayers are forced to foot part of the bill for the Folsom Street Fair. The City of San Francisco sanctions the event by shutting down several city blocks and providing police for security.

The Folsom Street Fair Web site says young people are welcome: "While we don't have any age restrictions at the gates we do inform attendees of the adult oriented nature of our events." The fair organizers say beer and liquor age restrictions are strictly enforced.

I think that there is a line that artists shouldn't cross (no pun intended). But you know, if people don't like it, don't watch it and don't buy it! It's as simple as that.

you're wrong. and it doesn't matter who promotes something like this, straight or gay, the vulgar display of everything that is considered sinful in the religion they are mocking would never be thought of as "clever."

i don't support a banning of the promo, though. they should advertise however they choose. actually, i'm glad they advertised this way because i can see which products and companies would sponsor such an event, and i can be sure not to support them.

the thing i always find interesting about stuff like this...the mocking of religion...is that it's always christianity. it's never a religion with extremists known to blow your asses up, like islam. it's never a religion who's followers have strong ties to media, like judaism.

in the end, whatever. it's a freakin' sex obsessed leather event. does anyone expect anything less from that crowd? shrug

So, what's the point?

The event seems to raise money for some good causes. Why narrow the scope by doing something that will insure at least some loss of interest?

This is untoward! This is not toward!

BDSM isn't about sex. not all people have sex while performing BDSM, though some to include sex in their play.

I'm all about sex with that chick on the left.

But seriously, why do something clearly meant to mock and offend when the goal is to help people. Why purposely drive some away?

Did Miller get to approve the ad before it was printed?

Sassy? i don't know what to say but that's a gross generalization.

yawn Mocking Christianity just makes it seem like they still have a hold on gay consciousness, as if homosexuality is the polar opposite of Christianity, and thus worthy of derision. Shouldn't Christianity be beneath reproach by now?

i do not think it is, and too bad if it actually is. let them stand up and denounce the ad if they are against it. the event is catered towards a specific crowd and that crowd, for the most part, probably loves the ad.

Mistress Midori, was very pleasant the couple times i met her.

In my opinion:
One it's in SF, according to their letter in the program the theme this year is promoting "San Francisco Values."

Two it's aimed at the Leather/Leather curious who wouldn't be turned off by that.

Three some come for the "freakshow" aspcet of it and this promo probably ads to it.

i think its interesting that while gays still continue to insist that they are about more than sex, every one of their celebrations is surrounded by sex, sponsored predominantly by sex-industry companies, and uses vulgar displays of sexuality in the ads.

just sayin'.

Gosh...I remember having a conversation about some AIDS related fundraisers in the gay community some years ago and this was my issue. Some folks aways wanted some sex theme. No generalization though because there were some fighting this issue as well.

I wouldn't say all but I get what you're saying.....sorta
