Al Sharpton

well, is he or isn't he? is AL SHARPTON the Democrat's TOKEN AFRICAN AMERICAN? i am very serious about this question. Looking back on history we know many black americans love Abraham Lincoln and Jesus. You go and visit them at their home and you will see those 2 pics on their wall. But it was a Democrat that gave black americans civil rights. even though it took many, many years to get the Kennedy brothers to finally make a public comment and take a public stand for it. but many ignorant people(black, white, green, whatever) believe that the democrats really want to help the people below middle class. how can this party help with so-called "GOVERMENT ASSISTANCE". hell, i was born a poor black child. raised on welfare but it took a former white movie screen actor who became president make me think and finally make a difference. i am only a high school graduate and I make over 100,000 dollars a year. i get to travel all over the country and the world. and it is all legal.

so, is AL SHARPTON the Democratic Party's TOKEN AFRICAN AMERICAN?

sad

Well I think you have a biased view of the Democratic Party and you are giving Reagan entirely too much credit. While I agree Democrats are not the saviour of Black folk they have been willing to listen! Republicans under Bush 2 (I think he is horribly underrated in this area personally) are starting to understand the value of the right kind of black vote.

However while it is good that you came out of your situation with wonderful life, most do not. You are the exception not the rule and you have to respect that exceptions make the rule the don't break the rule.

All that being said I have to agree with your assessment. I think Sharpton is the token AA in the democratic party. Pat Buchanon once asked why black folk are so loyal to a party that has never seriously run a black Presidential candidate nor V.P. We know the GOP seriously looked at Powell for awhile and he declined. I say score half a point for the GOP!!! So for me right now the score is Dems 2 GOP a 1/2. With a little more on that 1/2 because theirs is more current and they seem to pushing their black candidates.

there is some truth to my 'biased view of the Democratic Party'. however during re-election campign for the first George Bush i did not vote for him. and i appreciate you taking the time and giving an honest opinion.

Of course you don't have to tell me anything if it's personal. I'm just curious. smile

Yeah but do those names really matter? Its not like the democrats are going to run any of those names for President anytime soon. You and I both know that. I think that was the ultimate point of his post. We as African Americans are too ready to give the democrats our vote. I personally don't see either party doing much for our community so I feel it is up to us to do for ourselves.

i guess we will have to agree to disagree because i see Obama or Ford making a run for President in 12 years or so.....they both seemed to have been groomed since birth for the position.....

Well I agree they have the pedigree but I don't see the dems doing anything with it. They don't have to we give them the black vote for no real reason other than they come to a black church every four years and republicans don't. I think Jesse would have been a good President and at one time he was the Democratic front runner. He should have been given the chance to run. Sure he would have lost but he was a damn sight better than Dukakis!

Sorry I still get a little pissed when I think about that one. Anyway we will see. Twelve years is a long time and don't forget about the re-emergence of Al Gore somewhere in there.

Al Sharpton's campaign this year was to a great extend funded by the Republican Party.
