Future Soul Song vs. Call My Name

I see Future Soul Song getting alot of love, and I see alot of people calling it Prince's best slow song in 10 years.

I LOVED Call My Name, and thought it should be considered a Prince classic. EXTREMELY underrated IMHO.

I enjoy FSS, but I still think I prefer Call My Name.

Thoughts?? What's your pick?

I prefer Call My Name. It's so beautiful.

Future Soul Song is good, but I don't love it. However, when P did FSS live recently, I thought it was great & much better than the album version.

the interesting thang about Future Soul Song, is that in addition to being a

love song, it is also one of Prince's anthem type songs, like Live 4 Love, or

Resolution...just in a romantic groov ting.

They're probably equally bad. I wouldn't worry about it.

Here in Holland we be trippin at the coffee shop!

However... Prince has only written two good ballads this decade and they are called 'Here On Earth' and 'All The Midnights In The World'. And there you have it!

He sure has but that was before 2000!

I need so much crack to enjoy this decade's music, I might overdose 10 ten times!

I think 'Future Soul Song' is interesting because, unlike the vast majority of Prince's ballads, its focus appears to be his relationship with God.

But I prefer the melodies and arrangement of 'Call My Name'

They're totally different songs. FSS isn't a love song and CMN is. FSS has 2 guitar solos and prominent guitar effects throughout, CMN does not and is purely a blues/soul ballad.

It would be akin to comparing Electric Intercourse to Solo.

I love FSS. However, I was just thinking, what is the big picture of FSS in his mind? For example A) we already know that the soul is the person or some say 'in' the person. B) I don't have to say what the future means lol . So in putting this together I wonder, is he just calling this another baby making song? ( besides the suggestive slow melody) I am looking at it as ; "future soul" is a future person or someone not created yet. To create a future soul you would have to make love to create that new person ( or baby ). So I think Future baby momma and Future Soul Song basically means the same thing. One is telling the woman WHO she will be and the other is saying HOW.

Sometimes, I am overly analytical. lol

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead.
Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow.
Do not walk beside me, either. Just leave me the hell alone rolleyes

nod I think I like call my name better but future soul song is fantastic..his voice is amazing. I know he like to sing falsetto in ballads but I think his best ballads are ones with a deeper natural voice.
Am I the first person to type out future soul song? (other than in the actual starting post..

For me it´s FSS by far. Beautiful ballad, deep voice, great bass line, sounds so excellent on my Hifi sounds system.

CMN is a decend ballad as well but FSS is outstanding for me.

In general, Prince ballads don't do a lot for me, ESP the "Call My Name" "Satisfied" sound-alikes, but "Future Soul Song" really caught my attention. I think it's the vocal arrangements and production that does it for me...some really beautiful harmonies.

For me its Call My Name. FSS is beautiful but CMN is one of my favorite Prince ballads of all time. I put it right up there with Adore.
