I've always seen this as his first real delving into the deeper African American issues that he talks about today. Using the term "Devil with the Blue Jeans on" as a tongue-in-cheek metaphor for the white record execs was pretty slick at the time.

Of course, now he has all sorts of clever witicisms about white executives/people.

He ended it with Prince singing "Happy Birthday" to Cat (or Sheila?) at a show. (I haven't listened to it in years- since it was on cassette, I didn't want to ruin it.

This is definately in my top 10 Prince songs of all time.
