it's great it's done and all that, and i'm sure there's plenty people who haven't heard this stuff, and i've sure some folk spent ages working on it etc, but it's a bit like flogging a dead horse these days with the same stuff getting tweaked and remastered with little improvement on the original releases

there are however a few things coming out in noticably superiour quality, and those doing the work on them seem to know how to tweak things right

it's nice to have everything compiled together i suppose. if they keep going with the series and eventually put out all the soundboards in a similar long running set then it's pretty cool

This City Lights stuff has been new to me.

u haven't had city lights before? it came out about 16 years ago. i still have the original set, and it's been rehashed umpteen times since, as has pretty much every soundboard recording

it's great stuff if you haven't heard it before. there's about 200 soundboard recordings in circulation

Nope, i have only had four discs worth out of all the City Lights series before now, a couple from this set and Controversy stuff.

Can you tell me what year this series goes up to?

the original city lights is 1980 to 1986. two shows from 81, two from 82, two from 83, atlanta 85, stockholm 86. this new set is just other soundboards that had nothing to do with the original city lights. the original set were taking from video tapes rumoured to come from a band member. most of the shows are circulating on pro shot video

the city lights and remasted series relates to soundboard recordings. septembre is an audience recording. someone remastered the video by removing the existing footage and using a black screen instead and came out with far better results i'm sure one of those folk who converts shit to mp3 and then fucks around with everything so it sounds far worse in the end than it did at the start had remastered it with hideous artwork though

kiss was towards the end of the paris show, but not on the soundboard recording. there's another boot with the soundboard on disc 1 and audience recording on disc 2 to complete the show

Let me try something: I'll give a short short review of the boot without having heard it yet. Haven't seen it apart from pix. Etc.

Disc 1: Ripped from 4DaFunk's free release - nothing changed
Disc 2: Taken from Sabotage's own "1999 Revisited" - again, no changes
Disc 3: This is harder... If they're clever, they took the "Remastered" Thunderball version.. Guess they took the usual video rip, though.
Disc 4: An easy one, once again: Direct rip of the 4DaFunk release, with absolutely zero things changed.
Disc 5: Bit of the Triple Threat fan release, bit of FBG's latest Kansas City boot, the rest is all 4DaFunk.
Disc 6: They're own stone-age (however, brilliant) release. No improvements whatsoever.

Nice artwork, bits of old info (nothing new here), nice crystal trays.

Sound is good throughout, while absolutely NO improvements over anything available before. EVERYTHING on here is either taken from older, widely circulating Sabotage boots (approx. 25%), the other 75% are taken as-they-were from FREE releases. Just ripped from CD-R and pressed to disc, nothing changed at all.

The composition of the complete set is quite a mess, opening acts and main acts have been ripped apart and combined without further thinking.

Conclusion 1: NOTHING new here. Pay 60 bucks for a set which you could already download in an afternoon since years...

Conclusion 2: Nice overview for beginners. Collectors and hardcore fans already have the stuff you'll find on here.

Conclusion 3: This is an expensive release. It consists in large parts of stuff which was (and still IS, in fact) freely available, made by fans, made for fans, all for free. Sabotage came, ripped, and tried to make a buck. Easy as that. Evil as that.

Now come and prove me wrong. How accurate is it? lol

Oh, and just to get the punchline through: I'd say this is indeed a tweaked version of the City Lights set. But. 1) It's not "remastered". Go ask your local tech head why it can't be. 2) Sabotage DID NOT "remaster" the City Lights set. They took the work OTHERS did on that set and pressed it to disc. Am I right? Please tell me I'm not....

OK, since you're having such a hard time understanding, here's another attempt:

You could've already downloaded the set months and (in parts) even years ago, technically, just as it is.

It consists of stolen material from other people. It's a rip-off.

what he means is that fans cleaned up and did work to improve the shows and put them out online for free, and then commercial bootleggers took that work and pressed it up with new artwork to sell for a profit, and some people will pay £60 or so for a 6 disc set, whilst they could have got it for free online. some of the people working on the free releases are getting pissed off by people taking the free work and selling copies on ebay etc, and when that happens they stop putting stuff out as they don't want to do work for other people to make money from

there's a pile of stuff that's not commonly circulating for that and similar reasons of other people taking the credit for others work. on the flip side, some stuff is circulating because of the commercial labels paying cash for stuff that otherwise wouldn't be given out. for some people, with no money in it they don't want to take any risks or give stuff away

I don't think you get it well enough yet.
Why is something that the market (mr Prince) did not provide suddenly a rip off?

The material was in circulation nevertheless.

The b00tleggar just made stuff sound nicer, pressed it onto a CD and added a booklet.

They provided a service. Contrary to mr P not providing a service.

You have a choice to buy, to download or to ignore.

Stolen is not an issue. It's even an exaggeration. Why did these recordings exist when they intended them not to get out? Why weren't they destroyed? Why is making a copy theft? `Copying isn't theft`. Search that phrase on youtube.

Lyrics

Copying is not theft. Stealing a thing leaves one less left Copying it makes one thing more; that's what copying's for. Copying is not theft. If I copy yours you have it too One for me and one for you That's what copies can do If I steal your bicycle you have to take the bus, but if I just copy it there's one for each of us! Making more of a thing, that is what we call "copying" Sharing ideas with everyone That's why copying is FUN!

Now that we made that clear I do hope your point of view has changed to a less radical form.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Naw, you got me wrong there. Sabotage didn't steal the stuff from Prince, they stole the stuff from free labels, stole their work. They're ripping off customers and other labels, selling they're genuine work which is free in its original form.

"The b00tleggar just made stuff sound nicer, pressed it onto a CD and added a booklet."

Well, that's a matter of debate - remember i posted like "let me TRY something" in the first place. My argument rather was that Sabotage DID NOT make stuff nicer, DID NOT add anything, but just took others' work and sell it. All that said, i could be proven wrong of course. But if I'm not, this is a major rip-off of both the customers who could get the same stuff for free AND the free labels who put hard work into the stuff other folks are making a buck with now.

... but let's move on. I made a post because i had the idea, which i found funny for a moment, to see how many shots i can right about which sources were used for this set, even before i listened to it.

I didn't mean to stir up age-old discussions again, nor did i try to be as serious about the whole thing as this is getting already. MikeyB71 you don't seem to know much about the stuff you're talking about, nor do you seem like humor is your thing. Actually, people who like to answer posts like "i have no fucking idea what you are talking about, nor do i really care." are retards in my book. I didn't mean to be hostile or anything, but you seem to lack the basic social skills to have a conversation..

Anyway, now it's me saying "i don't care". cool
