or

I still bump Musicology, its my fav of the later albums.

He had just gotten out of the ONA tour, and he wasn't trying to be "pop" friendly.

I like pretty much every track except for cinnamon girl, because the hook annoys me.

But yeah Musicology was pretty damn hott.

i also liked a few of the fan made remixes of musicology, from NPGMC too

Not a great album, but much better than 3121. I dig WDUWM2D especially.

LOTP is a hot mess though.

Prince's best album since TGE; some great tracks (specially Cinnamon Girl, Dear Mr.Man and A Million Days), a strong single (title-track), a "just ok" jam (LO'TP) and a couple of duds (Call My Name, Reflection); great funk/rock sound, organic drums (mostly), loud guitars, nice arrangments, what's not to love?; yeah, a nice/perfectly competent comeback...and I absolutely love the fact that he delivered an album that had NOTHING to do with the CRAPPY mainstream sounds of 2004...(he could have embraced shit-hop, but he didn't)

on top of that, the Marrying Kind/If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life/On the Couch saga was one of the best things he did since, well, TGE...

of course, 3121 was even better...

I'll never understand why albums like 20Ten and MPLSound get ragged on all the time, whilst 3121 gets a free pass with so many fans.

At least songs like Future Soul Song or Here actually have a decent hook. There's no melody to speak of on songs like Satisfied or Black Sweat (a good drum loop doesn't make it funky!).

Other than the title track, I really can't discern a single praise-worthy moment on the whole wretched album.

sorry to rain on your parade luv biggrin no offense, but this is probably my least listened to

prince album of them all.

there are a few decent songs on it, for sure, but as a whole i just don't like this disc at

all.

the only song i still listen to on a regular basis is "reflection", which is one of his best,

genuine tracks from the last 10 years.

i can see why so many people like it and think it's a nice album. but for me it's just got

too many moments that make me cringe either lyrical or musical.

but in the end prince probably accomplished exactly what he wanted to with this album,

in that it reintroduced him to a wider middle of the road record listening audience and

that must account for something.

it's just that, as a fan who enjoyed the ride from 1993-2002 just about as much as the

one from 1980-1990, this album signalled the end of a tremendously creative and kind

of weird experimantal fase that ran from TRC through One Nite Alone (piano) to NEWS

and Cnote and Xpectation and some of the one off's inbetween.

at the end of the day it's only another prince album and he releases enough of them to

not be dramatic about whatever one you don't like but Musicology is just a bit of a sore

spot for me since it was a bit of a deathblow to that creative period of indi releases and

brought prince back into the spotlight a bit more, consequently resulting in albums like

3121, planet earth and Mplsound. all with their good moments but all hopelessly flawed

and far less interesting that his 2001-2003 releases.

this just goes to show how different everyone feels about certain songs because i feel

the exact opposite.

i can't understand how someone would call "cinnamon girl" a great track and then cut

"reflection" down as a dud. lol.

well, i can understand, but i don't want to lol

but that's one of the things i like about the org. even tracks on his albums that i don't

like at all, get their share of fans who make threads for them or discuss them and go

all crazy about them. and that's a very good thing. it keeps things moving.

Agree 100%.

When it came out, it was just deflating (despite the commercial comeback angle), it was like "really? We're going back to THIS again?" confused shrug

Sing it sister. IMO, Black Sweat is HUGELY over-rated.

Sorry, but this thread, once again, makes me remember how WEIRD the fans of the 2001-2003 era are...

Why anyone would want to see Prince reduced to a weird jazzman without decent melodies or well-crafted choruses is beyond me...and don't get me started with the JW lyrics...

I understand if someone dismisses Musicology as a safe pop/rock/funk record, but at least that album brought Prince back to the world he left in 1995...pop/rock/funk music...

C-NOTE? NEWS? XPECTATION? arrow FACELESS, BORING, UNEVEN, FORGETTABLE, DISPOSABLE PSEUDO-JAZZ dead fart

His nadir, really. One crappy mainstream pop album (Rave) and then a middleage crisis with weird, uneven experiments with jazz...ugly time...

Sure, the MPLS/20Ten era is crappy, but thank God for Musicology/3121...

When Musicology came out I was disgusted to see Prince releasing such a lame album.

Little could I imagine that even worse works were to come after it.

With 3121 he added insult to the injury of Musicology.

With PE he added insult to the injury of 3121.

Lotus/MPLS were a demonstration of how unfocused Prince can get to be.

20Ten is the confirmation that Prince is totally lost.

I'd like that he wouldn't put out any more albums if he's going to continue that 'grand progression'... neutral

Lotus/MPLS were a demonstration of how unfocused Prince can get to be. LOTUS WAS A FOCUSED ALBUM, MPLS WAS AN UNLISTENABLE MESS...

20Ten is the confirmation that Prince is totally lost. I PARTIALLY AGREE, BUT ONLY BECAUSE HE CANNOT RELEASE THE ALBUM IN THE US

I'd like that he wouldn't put out any more albums if he's going to continue that 'grand progression'... neutral AS I SAID ONE MONTH AGO, THIS COULD BE THE BEGINNING OF THE END OR AT LEAST THE BEGINNING OF A VERY CRAPPY/BORING/TROUBLED/UNINTERESTING/UNEXCITING ERA...

Though I hardly listen to the tracks for this album, whenever they do pop up in my iTunes, I do find myself enjoying them. Musicology IS a great album. The album did what Prince wanted it to....bring him back to the masses. Though die-hard fans may not like it as much, but every track has a slick and polished feeling to it that the masses love.

"Call My Name" is a moder day masterpiece imo. So is "Reflection".

^^I have every oficial album (well, I'm lacking an original copy of Goldnigga. Just didn't came across one), so I'll keep buying what he puts out. A different thing is that I waste my time listening to his post 2004 output.

If you get nothing out of it, 'then' it is a waste of time but, from my point of view, I would not think so[img:$uid]http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/67.gif[/img:$uid]

Smoothing the itch of lacking official releases is the only thing I can get from someone who's -for me- artistically dead -both studio and live- since the ONA Tour ended.

So don't you want to take THAT away from me. I feel that's the only thing that's left.

I'm not morally against MPLSound. I love love love love "Here". It's probably my favorite song of the decade. I love the reworked "U're Gonna See Me" and I think "No More Candy 4 U" is good in small doses (like "Everybody Loves Me"). I cannot, for the life of me, fucking stand "Chocolate Box" "Another Like Me" or w/e and the rest of the album (save for "Dance 4 Me" which I think is ok).

20TEN to me is just an extended EP. I consistently still listen to 4 songs (FSS, AoG, Lavaux, Everybody), but the rest is just not great. "Beginning Endlessly" would be good if it were edited to radio format length.

With 3121, I think even the lame songs are good and/or great. "Black Sweat" is an awesome song and I also like it because most of my friends have heard it before in the club. "Satisfied" is part of that cadre of songs I don't really care for (along with "Insatiable", "Damn U", "On the Couch" etc), but I will still let it play and sing along to it even if its just to make present company laugh at how ridiculous Prince's methods of seduction are. The only song on 3121 I have never liked is "Get on the Boat". I don't like any of Prince's slavery imagery and I don't care for sermonizing. Even "The Word" is less subtle than some of those types of slavery songs.

I LOVE Musicology!!! I listen to it ALL the time. I personally was SO EXCITED when he released Musicology, it's my style of music!! "Call My Name" and "Musicology" are just genius work, I can't stop listening to those songs! "On The Couch" and "Cinnamon Girl" I really like too! I think it was the sign that Prince was BACK ON TOP where he belonged!!

That cd started a great love for me and really brought him back to that #1 musician who could really bring it. (Thought he never left honestly) But this cd, added to 3121, Lotusflower, and 20Ten are masterpieces and GREAT representation of the millenium, I hope Prince keeps bringing it like he has so far! The decade was definately a highlight in his career, may be my favorite string of ablums there!! And the Musicology LIVE shows were HOT!!! smile

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol
