What's with the rudeness?

Where do I start?

Let me say first that it is not necessary for anyone to respond to this unless you actually have something to add or clarify.

On my most recent post there were a few comments about certain members of Org and why their responses to others post are often rude in nature.

So, maybe I would like a few honest responses after all.

Why?

I joined the org first and foremost to discuss Prince and later I found that the other forum were as or often more interesting. I liked what appeared to be an open-dialogue aspect of this site, until I found out just how "vicious" one (or some) could be if your opinion weren't among the popular consensus. I mean, I like a good debate as much as the next person. But, damn some of the orgers here are a bit much in their posting. I understand that sometime seeing the same topic over and again can be a bit much, but the comments that some of the elder-orgers leave are a bit much too. But then again, it seems ok to keep talking about the same ol' same ol' if these same people (who look down at the newbies redundant posts) like the topic (for example Larry G's influence on Prince, Prince "dating" Bria or how unattractive some of you think she is). No one reads every single thread before posting on of their own...so either answer the question or don't bother. But don't jump down the newbies throat like s/he had committed a deadly sin by not being around when the question/comment first appeared on Org, especially those not comments/questions not listed in The Org Facts.

My point?

Let a person say what they feel and if you don't like what they are saying...ok, but posting the "I don't care" responses actually show that you do or that you have nothing better to do. If you really don't care, then bypass the post and comment on those that you do. And, if you don't agree with someone's views then feel free to express yours(w/o being hateful). It's called open-dialogue. Agree to disagree.

Sometimes on here its hard to differentiate between those who are simply passionate about a topic and those who are just plain rude. And for that reason the Org is becoming very unwelcoming to new members or I'm quite sure some of the veteran orgers, too.

Completely agree with this. The "Who cares" type of responses get old and annoying. If you don't care, move along. There's been a ton of threads I didn't give a damn about. I ignore them. Simple. No need to shit on some else's opinions or interests if you really never gave a damn to begin with. Let them post with any others that might care, one way or the other. It ain't like the OPs force you to click on any topics. If the topic is a repeat or inappropriate or whatever, well, that's the beauty of having moderators.

my best advice is to ignore it. just reply to the ones you feel comfortable with. now toughen up a little and come on in and enjoy the festivities. wink i think you'll like it here. biggrin

I don't think the org's ever been an overly polite place, so I guess it goes with the territory, but that doesn't mean it couldn't get a little more civilized around here.

I will say this, though: I don't believe leaving a "Why do you care?"-type comment is rude. That's a legitimate comment on a thread. You can't expect to be able to post whatever you want and not have anyone disagree with it or think it's wrong or stupid or whatever. Moreover, even if you've started a thread, you don't have any control over where it goes. Once it's out there, it's no longer yours. It's a discussion on a public forum.

But that aside, there's tons of annoying rudeness on these boards. Do your best to ignore it. There are a couple people here who love to throw out obnoxious and rude comments or to be as condescending as they can. These people are attention-whores. Most of the threads they post on end up becoming about them rather than the topic they're commenting on. But they can only do that when people feed into their obnoxiousness. Ignore it and they'll have to find some other way to get the attention they crave.

Hi to you too. I've been a member a little over a year. I just felt the need start this thread for those who have commented on the issue.

It's not always about not have tough skin, it's about the extent that some go to in attempts to belittle the opinions of others. It's damn near qualifies as cyber-bullying. Well, maybe not that bad....yet.

It has rarely come across as a legitimate question about why the poster is interested in whatever the topic is and seems more designed to make them feel stupid for posting it to begin with, adding nothing to the actually topic at hand in the process.

Like a shitty haircut.

That is a very real problem, for two main reasons. The first, and least important, is the shape and condition of the hair you've manoeuvred on top of your head is always the very first aspect of your physical appearance people notice and instantly judge a person upon. Either conciously or subconciously, they've immediately made up their mind about you. Nothing you can say or do can change it. Your hair has told them all they ever need to know. The wall is built and it is high.

The second, and most important reason, is the negative effect a bad haircut has on the wearer's own psyche. You won't believe any compliments to the contrary. Your shoulders will be arched, back hunched. You'll feel inferior in any conversation, whether it be with midget or moron. Your head won't be tuned into any banter or conversation - all you'll be thinking is 'Are they thinking my hair is shit?' while the other person is jabbering away. Real life passes you by like a speeding train. All that matters is how shit your hair is.

Bad hair can ruin your entire life, if you are so attuned to the ugly subtle realities of humanity.
