I like the Beasties. They have always impressed with each record. But do they need to keep trying to rap and act cool? Until I hear the album tuesday, I can't truly say they've fallen below their standards. I wouldn't mind if they kept to being a band, but at least they are coming out with something new. Then agian, I haven't listened to them since "Ill communication", maybe I'm behind the times?

Sorry, but it sounds like it.

Hello Nasty was a brilliant record.

they were at Shoreline this friday. the show was pretty good, they did seem a bit tired ... the new disc is ok, but doesn't seem very innovative (i've only given it 2 listens, so we'll see). i could say the same for musicology (alot of the disc is prince by numbers, which is still better than alot of crap out there)

Why replicate when you innovate? Suit yourself.

Just bought it!

Listening to the first track "Ch-Check It Out", which I've heard before, 'cept they say rude words on the album version!

Bought the CD a couple of days ago, haven't listened to it yet.
I'm sure that it is just as good as the rest of their albums.

Any news on the touring front?

Okay I've listened to it 3 times all the way through now.

Twice on speakers, once on headphones.

I have to say, this is one of their weaker albums.

And considering the Beastie's level of quality, that still means it's a pretty good album.

But out of all their albums, this is one of the least inventive and least innovative.

The only albums it's better than are "License to Ill" and "Some Ol' Bullshit", the latter of which doesn't really count as it's not a true Beastie's (as most know them) album anyway.

check your head is an excellent album.

here's how i would rate their albums:

1) Paul's Boutique ****1/2
2) Hello Nasty ****1/2
3) Ill Communication ****
4) Check Your Head ****
5) To the 5 Boroughs ***
6) License to Ill ***

And The Sounds Of Science compilation, which isn't really a proper album, I give ****.

What would have rounded this album out and make it as good as the others would be some groovy laid back LIVE BAND instrumentals like the ones on Check Your Head and Ill Communication. I think their band work is really underrated. As it stands, there isn't enough breaking up of the same kind of Pro Tools beats which permeate the album....it gets quite samey and I've found myself going back to certain tracks just so I can try to remember the hook (if there is one) and differentiate them from the others.

Have you ever heard their instrumental album? It takes instrumentals from their regular albums plus a few extras. I think it was an import.

hmm, i never really bothered getting it, but maybe i should. it seemed like it didn't have anything new that i didn't already have...i didn't know it had extras. i might get it...i've seen it around cheap.

I have always like the Beasties. Especially Adrock and Mike D. MCA is cool because his voice compliments the other 2. Is Mix Master Mike back for this set?
