Wilco, Billy Bragg, and Mermaid Avenue Can anyone tell me how the 2 Mermaid Avenue albums came to be? Did someone from Billy's camp approach Wilco? Did Wilco go to them? I love these albums and am curious about their history. Thanks! "She made me glad to be a man"

Sorry I can't answer the question, but I just noticed Billy Bragg sounds a bit like like Jay, from Uncle Tupelo.
Maybe it was an attempt to get back to Uncle Tupelo Check this song out at:

from what I know, Woody Guthrie's daughter approached BIlly about making the 1st album. I have no idea though how he linked to Wilco. The 2nd album was put out because all involved were so happy with the results and had they had so many tracks left, so they HAD to put them out. however it happened, goody for us they are two stellar albums!

what endo says is true but the thing with Wilco was that they were doing the exact same project and Billy Bragg got them in on it. i think they played a festival together and then got to talking.
this is from the man's mouth no less.
