Stevie Wonder's MOOG Basslines For someone who wasn't a Bass guitar player, It's notable what an impact Stevie's Moog Basslines had on Bassists; People like Marcus Miller and Pino Palladino, who once remarked that stevie's basslines inspired him to pick up the Bass in the first place...from Boogie On Reggae Woman, to Higher Ground, to Too High,To Syreeta's version of I love Every Little Thing.., etc...collaborating with Malcom Cecil and Robert Marguleff, his Moog became synonomous with the Funk... Excellent post...his moog basslines were legendary. Prime examples, Golden Lady, Knocks Me Off My Feet, Lately, Too High.

STEVIE'S MOOG BASSLINE'S ALSO INFLUENCED PARLIAMENT'S "FLASHLIGHT". BOOTSY AND BERNIE WORRELL BOTH SPOKE ABOUT TRYING 2 CAPTURE STEVIE'S VIBE ON THAT CUT. A LOT OF THE ISLEY BROTHERS SONGS SUCH AS "TAKE ME TO THE NEXT PHASE" "THE PRIDE" AND SO ON WERE ALL IN DEBT TO STEVIE'S MOOG SOUND. THE ISLEYS WENT SO FAR AS TO GET THE SAME 2 CATS THAT WORKED ON STEVIE'S 1971-74 PERIOD ALBUMS 2 WORK ON THEIR STUFF.
THESE TWO HELPED STEVIE ACHIEVE THAT MONSTER MOOG SOUND. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

THESE TWO HELPED STEVIE ACHIEVE THAT MONSTER MOOG SOUND. True! The Isleys ran right out an' grabbed Cecil and Margouleff and said "Give us that sound!" A song that best sums up Stevie's Moog sound: "Maybe Your Baby". It also has some cool rock guitar on it courtesy of Ray Parker Jr. Stevie had 2 pick between this and "Tell Me Something Good". He didn't want 2 do both because he felt they were 2 similar. So he picked "Maybe" for "Talking Book". Of course Rufus went on 2 do it. "Maybe Your Baby" went on 2 inspire Michael with the "hee hees". And also Prince with his Camille voice. Listen to "Shockadelica" long version and you'll hear "Maybe Your Baby" influence. Are You Experienced? Well, I am. Jimi Hendrix SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Not to mention Stevie's Moog basslines on ballads...
"Overjoyed" (my all-time favorite...with his bass sounding resembling an acoustic bass). "Come Back As A Flower" (likewise with "Overjoyed") "Blame It On The Sun" "Ribbon In The Sky" "Lately"

" Come Back as A Flower" really threw me for a loop, 'cause the first time I heard it I swore that was an Upright acoustic bass! Growing up for a long time, I always thought Stevie had some other guitar player besides Ray Parker, Jr. playing the "wah-wah" parts on "Maybe Your Baby" until I discovered how awesome he is on the clavinet.

And don't 4get Greg "fast fingers" Phillinganes, his most underrated rhythm arranger who also supplied Stevie's grooves.
