And HOW HOW can we count out DR. Know!!!! I seen first hand Dr.Know of Bad Brains smoke Vernon(sorry Vernon,I just had to say it, it happens to the best of us at some time). And then there's Mike Cerous of New York(Cory Glover/Kelli Sae) dat boy is fecious!!! Here in Philly honorable mentions are; Mike Tyler, Paul Eaton, Kimba Harris, Dom Butler Butch Stewart, Jeff Lee Johnson, Jeff Washington, Jay Medley, and the guy shedding down his basement. Victor, Spacey T and myself used to play the "L.A. circuit" years ago. (Bus Boys, Sound Barrier and Marcus Malone respectively) The Marcus Malone group I was a part of at one time included Neftali "Fencewalk" Santiago on drums. Jeff Lee Johnson is on the George Duke "Face The Music" CD. The pieces i've heard are pretty fierce. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I going to have to go with P-funk's Blackbyrd McKnight. He is the only guitar player that has probably blown me away with his solo's lately. Scarey dude... Listen 2 this motherf@4ker! Go head on Player! I didn't mention him because I didn't think anyone was hip 2 him. He did some shit with Bootsy and Bill Laswell. I know u all r hip 2 a brotha named Dee Dee. He's the cat that played with Da'Krash. He also did some shows playing in Bootsy's band. I did some shit with him with his band at the time called Dirty Diapers. We both play flying V's, but what was cool is that he plays left handed and I play right, so that shit looked cool onstage. He got in2 production and got tired of gigging, so that took care of that. Nice cat though and good player. More Mike Hampton than anything. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Never saw the video. Sounds hip. I believe the BRC was kicking off just as our group (Marcus Malone) was breaking up. Spacey T used to be with an R&B cover group (Kahlua I believe) that used to watch us rehearse at Falcon Studios on Santa Monica Blvd. That group (Kahlua) eventually became Sound Barrier. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I always loved Mark "Drac" Hicks's solos...actually, my favorite of his is at the end of Just Freak (from the Slave album"The Concept")....that shit is Dangerous! ....But the thing that really tripped me out was that I always thought that was His solo on Stone Jam, when it turned out to be keyboardist Ray Turner (leanin' on that Pitch Wheel!) I really like the solo from "Slide", the edited down version that was on the 45. Years later when I got the Best of Slave cd & heard the full length solo I was a bit underwelmed. One of my pet peeves is when any guitarist just stops playing melodically & starts cramming notes. it might sound & look cool live, but when it's a recording, it's the equivilant of running off at the mouth. Also the liner notes from the "best of" cd mention that the solo was processed through an eventide harmonizer, which was new at the time. Maybe it's just me, but the synth solo from the tune "Stone jam" sounds alot like the type of guitar solo a early 80's Alan Holdsworth might have played. How about Jon Butcher, he's another great guitarist who very rarely gets mentioned. [Edited 12/25/06 5:36am] [Edited 12/25/06 5:40am]

He's definately one of my faves. Indeed. And that Summer Breeze solo was his best solo guitar work on an Isley Bros track. I think part of the reason he's not quite as revered as other guitarists is because his work wasn't meant to stand out, per se. His guitar playing was usually integrated into the rest of the music and wasn't regularly brought into the forefront. There are, of course, exceptions like Summer Breeze and Live It Up.
