according to her website, she's playing at the Blue Note.
Check this out though; I read this article about her from http://www.clinicalsocial...akitt.html, and they claim that she has "MPD, multiple personality disorder or some variant of MPD." then he goes on to say "Watch her dissociate, look at her having a conversation with herself, and listen to the changes in her voice...In the television interview, she spoke of being abused as a child and if I recall correctly her voice changed to that of a small child at one point in the conversation. As the interviewer asked her questions, it was evident to me that she was listening to an internal dialogue before answering some of his questions."

definitely read the section on her childhood. It's touching... cry

Poor Eartha. wacky nuts nuttywacky nuts nuttywacky nuts nuttywacky nuts nutty

but after reading the stuff about her childhood, it's no wonder that she's alive at all. She was left to scavenge with the wild animals and was beaten bloody. Then her aunt sexually abused her and she was constantly told how unimportant/unloved/unaccepted she was.

news on her daughter by Billy Masters: Ten years ago, I was extremely close to Eartha Kitt. We were working together on a project around the time that her daughter, Kitt (no, her name isn't Kitt Kitt - it's Kitt McDonald), got married. Eartha was VERY depressed. She would speak very frankly about feeling empty once she gave her daughter away, and she tried numerous ways to fill that emptiness. After writing about this experience in a book and revitalizing her career, Eartha was doing better. Then a funny thing happened - her daughter had a child, her marriage ended, she became mom's manager, and Eartha moved in! Last month, a decade after her first marriage, the younger Kitt married Allan Rothschild. I was unable to attend these nuptials due to my touring, but I heard that Eartha was in far better spirits. Not only did she throw (and pay for) a fabulous wedding, she also had an additional home built on her property for her daughter and new son-in-law to live in - and her former son-in-law is right around the corner! As for those nasty little ``habits", I hear that they are all a thing of the past. Purr-fect! taken from http://www.baywindows.com...5681.shtml

I've always been a huge fan of Tom Waits. He's the personification of unique; not only the voice but his whole style in general.

I've also always thought that Paul Stanley of Kiss has a very unique voice. Not great in the traditional sense but it definitely stands out & I've found it kind of appealing in a weird sort of way.

And the lead singer of the Sultans of Ping F.C. But I'm sure none of you have ever heard of them!

David Sylvian. (...take your pick)

David Bowie. (ditto)

Freddie Mercury (see above)

David McAlmont.
(Check out his wonderfully camp cover of 'Diamonds Are Forever' - was lucky enough 2 know David 4 some time, but we lost touch last year)

David Gray.
(Check out The Other Side on the last album or Flame Turns Blue on 'Lost Songs')

(Jeez...what is it with me and guys called David?)

Kate Bush
(This Woman's Work stands out as does Hello Earth, Hounds of Love - hell, that whole album is one of THE greatest things ever made, so take your pick)

Bono.
(check out Kite, Red Hill Mining Town etc...)

Ella Fitzgerald.

Jónsi Birgisson (Sigur Ros)
One of the most beautiful and haunting voices I've ever heard. Like David Sylvian, I could quite happily listen 2 this guys voice 4 hours...

To those of you who mentioned Billie Holiday, Q-Tip, and Sly Stone, good call! thumbs up!
If she hasn't already been mentioned I'd like to add T-Boz. I'd love to hear her cover Sly & The Family Stone's "If you want me to stay." AI's Fantasia Barrino has a unique voice. I think Slave's Steve Arrington has a unique singing style; Al Green too.
