I don't own any of this guy's albums, but he's appeared on plenty that I do own (notably Miles Davis, Weather Report and Jaco Pastorius).
Jaco Pastorius' Word of Mouth is excellent and really showcases a big band, so this is the best album I could recommend to sample him, being that I'm not familiar with his solo work. cheers, sav "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Man, Wayne's gone through So Many Changes: from the late 50's with Miles Davis's bands to his own solo recordings of the same period, To His Co- headlining the Jazz/World/Fusion band Weather Report, to solo albums like Native Dancer with Brazilian singer/Songwriter Milton Nascimento , to collaborations like High Life with Marcus Miller and Rachel Z...
Ifyou want to examine his early solo jazz recordings, Blue Note's "Best Of Wayne Shorter" is an good place to start. If you want to hear his Weather Report ('72 -'88) period, try their album, "Heavy Weather"--a great place to start, then maybe " Mysterious Traveller or " Black Market" if you want to hear some of his more recent output : For Slammin' electric avant/Funk--"High Life" For Excellent Live interpretations of classics, check out "Footprints Live"(2001)...
