Female Musicians/Artists Thread

Ok let's gives some props to the ladies. In this music industry, it's for the most part dominated by males. A lot of times, female artists/musicians don't get the recognition(critical acclaim or respect from music listeners) they deserve. So this thread is dedicated to all the female musicians/artists that have given us so much. Please join in and give us some of your favorite female artists and what their music mean to you. Much props do all the ladies!!!!She works hard for her money.....SO YOU BETTER TREAT HER RIGHT!!!!! A few of mines are.....

Patrice Rushen- Keyboard, piano, bass, drums and vocals.....I love this woman's music so much. She is truly a marvel of talent. And she is only this tall!!!!! (Recommended albums:.....Pizazz(1979), Posh(1980), Straight From The Heart(1982))

Rachelle Ferrell-Piano and Vocals.....My favorite female vocalist of the last 10 years, Blessed with a six-octave range voice. This woman's voice does all sorts of thangs to me. Her 1995 album "First Instrument" is one of the greatest jazz records ever made, IMO. I highly recommend this record.

Pamela Williams- Saxophone and vocals. The future is bright for this woman. A great saxophonist and fellas she is sooooo fine!!!!!

I want to give much respect.props to a very beautful and talented sista.....ERYKAH BADU. I really feel that this woman will around for a while. And I can't bring myself to say this about to many so-called artists now-a-days. Her last release MAMA's GUN was a better record than her debut. It was certainly a more mature record and that's saying a lot because her debut record "Baduizm" was mature. Mama's Gun is just a sophisticated recording, with a strong solid R&B/soul base with fluid jazz elements to boot. Also, as a lyricist, Badu grew by leaps and bounds.

I look so forward to more great works from this talented lady.

That's easy, Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman. Not just for the work they did with Prince, but all the work they've done producing other artists and their solo stuff as well. And Melissa Etheridge is brilliant also. I seen her on her "Live...And Alone" tour and she played guitar and piano and just blew my mind. At one point for the song "Occasionally" she plays the beat of the song on the back of her guitar. She's simply brilliant.

Wait 'til you get a hit of Sheila Horne's "7 ROSES" some new PFUNK ready to drop from the underground. She's one of the sistas in PARLET and still hangs in the PFUNK mob. MIke Hampton -- Kidd Funkadelic is producing so it's got a heavy metal funk flavor to it. It's sexy and loud and funky!

PFUNK mob dropped me some preproduction tracks, man. We gonna hook up some soundwaves on the site. I got some artwork Ican put it on the site

Baddest piece of female funk I got in recent years was DAWN Silva's solo debut: ALL MY FUNKY FRIENDS. She used to be with BRIDES OF FUNKENSTEIN and her solo outing just kicked ass. The undergroud has had it for more than 2 years and she's getting ready to record a followup.

Good posts so far! However, you guys are forgetting Annie Lennox! She has endless depth, talent and creativity. Have you heard "1984: For the Love of Big Brother"? It is simply breathtaking. Also, Debbie Harry! That women had so much mojo and did wonders to erase the misconception that women are only sex objects or crooners. She had smarts, class, AND sex appeal.

I have a couple of Sandra's cd's, but not the tribute to Miles, and I had no idea she recorded an interpretation of "Doves". I always did like her music and knew Cassandra is cool people.

CHER

She may not be a musician and as far a I know she only wrote one song ("Too Far Gone" dedicated to Greg Allman), but she is an extraordinary entertainer, has the most unique voice for a female and DAMN does she have staying power!
There are not many others that have been around as long as she has!

I'm a huge fan of Cher. Her last album 'Believe' is incredible.I remember when that song first came out.I would hear it at a club, and people would put down their drinks, and RUSH to the dancefloor!! You could tell that it was gonna be a big hit,and it eventually became the biggest hit of 1999.The rest of her album was filled with killer dance tracks....."Taxi,Taxi" and "Runaway" were my other favorites.Kinda reminds me of the eerie,trance-like music that Madonna is doing these days.

I'm listening to her new CD ('Living Proof') right now,and I am NOT dissapointed:)
