In fact, I didn't go to the dome b/c i thought it was gonna be full of Diana-supporters and i didn't wanna be the only Fantasia fan around. But it turns out that Diana didn't have the support the media tried to spin for her. Plus, if you think back to last night's show. When they showed audience pics of Fantasia's home stadium, they showed the whole audience. When they showed the audience pics of Diana's home staduim (the dome), they only showed small clunps of people rooting for Diana. That's b/c Fantasia truly had ATL's support. The media didn't want you to know that. They were trying to pit ATL vs. Carolina and that wasn't the truth, at all. Yep. As far as the fighting goes, I heard that it was simple/triflin' stuff like one person trying to put their poster in front of someone else's poster and then the other person got mad b/c they thought the person touched/shoved them, etc .
That's really a shame. | |

Fantasia got a new car...even though she said she doesn't have a licence or can't drive. They also get a recording contract, lots of publicity and some other shady shit that goes along with the territory of being pimped in the recording industry.

the winner gets to loose their identity and all semblance of self. "Pedro offers you his protection."

I understand that America needs its own brand of escapism, believe me I do. But, after years of steadily sacrificing our freedoms and right to privacy, we're told to expect to live throughout this summer in the shadow of another domestic terrorism plot. I don't mean to jack the thread, but I don't give two pieces of lint about who "wins" tonight. Fox was declared the victor, months ago. so? I mean why does this matter so much? It is nothing different than watching a soap opera, but yet that never gets any put-downs. Because soaps just are. Americans aren't begged to VOTE for someone in soaps. They're not held a few times a week during primetime TV or promoted in various other aspects of media coinciding with sweeps week. Wouldn't it be great if we could be equally well-versed in the discourse of what constitutes a domestic threat in America now versus right after the 9/11 attacks? Or how to evaluate the efforts to make America less vulnerable to domestic attack? Or what benefit, if any, there has been to the freedoms we lost via the Patriotic Act after the attacks? Because the fact remains that our leaders are routinely releasing vague and often contradictory terror warnings that likely will become sickeningly frequent between now and the elections. So, forgive me if I appeared to be sniping at a stupid show that's become a national diversion, but I'm a little worried about a country that seems more fired up about whether Fantasia gets her due than about separating the lies from the truth with regard to our war, our country's international standing, our individual liberties and our national security. No offense. . [This message was edited Thu May 27 21:30:49 2004 by ThreadBare]
