Teena Marie...i mean..Lady T is showin it!!!!

I am very pleased with Lady T's "La Dona". After the letdown of that D-12 album...(good lawd)..this is showing where real muscicians and artists need 2 come in..i hope it keeps coming this way because it just keeps gettin better.

I already have a 19 year old friend of mine claiming that Teena is now her favorite artist!

While Cristina's voice is stripped

and Mariah's just keep getting more whispier

(although those are my homegirls)

Teena's voice is damn perfect just like the first time she has laid vox on wax!

La Dona is a very good album. U can hear it in her voice that she is happy with herself.

"Still In Love" is jammin!

"My Body's Hungry" Hell yeah, this is a very sweet cut.

"Off The Chain" is off the Chain!

"Rose By Any Other Name" is very cool and works with Gerald very nicely, and the chorus is great.

"Makaveli Never Lied" is a HIGHLIGHT. This is a must listen.

"High Yellow Girl" and "Hit Me Where eye Live" are also awesome.

NOBODY DESERVES THE RECOGNITION MORE THAN TEENA (no, I'm not yelling...but Teena deserves every bit a good fortune that comes her way.) I have always been down with Teena since Irons In The Fire.

Far and away, "I Got You" is the hottest song on the album. I didn't even know it was the Rick James song at first. It just caught me! The whole album, despite the heavy hip-hop influence, is rather subtle, combing some jazz and light spainish guitar in there. Just very good overall It doesn't hit you on the head like her uptempo pop hits do. This is my only studio album by Teena. What should I get next?

NUH UHHH! GW'ON 'HEAD AND YELL, DAMN IT!

I think she was such a trailblazer for big-voiced soul divas, and please no one take this the wrong way, but particularly she was a trailblazer for sisters of "lighter hue" being able to make it in the r&b music genre; when I see the little Cristina Aguileras and even our lil Mariah Carey out there doing their thing and I CLEARLY can hear Teena references in their vocal performances, I'm just like "WHERE IS THE HOMAGE you ungrateful chilluns????!!! WHERE IS THE HOMAGE and RESPECT that should be paid to those who came before you??? Hell, Mariah Carey has done a re-make/tribute on evrey album to everyone under the sun but where is her "hom-age" to Lady Tee? If she had any good sense left she would do one of her infamous "tribute" songs to Teena, or better yet, for us organic music lovers, bust out and do a duet with her (ballad of course)! If Mary can do one with Aretha, Bette Midler & Wynona, and damn Celine and Streisand can do one, then I don't see why Lady Tee, acting as the wise musical sage that she is, shouldn't have her stab at schooling young Mariah in the recording booth as well!

That's the problem with these young whippersnappers in music today- they need to recognize, lol lol !!!

As far as what to start with, you should start with these three and then get all of her albums. The Greatest Hits (with Square Biz , It Must Be Magic, Portuguese Love, Behind the Groove, etc.) That one is on Motown. Next there is the G.Hits on Epic (her second wave) it has (If I Were A Bell, Cupid Is A Real Straight Shooter, etc.) Also excellent. Then break it down...and get, Love Songs (Casanova Brown, Dear Mr. Gaye, Out On A Limb)...that will keep you good and satisfied until you can get the full albums... What do the rest of you think?

Teena is so bad azz, that Motown didn't even put her face on the first album...This was before the days of videos children when we only had radio and you had to use your imagination. Everyone thought Teena was black and she could only get played on black radio. Also a fact that people like to forget is that Madonna started off as an RnB artist and could only get play on black radio. Until she crossed over on like her third single and she finally made a video and shocked everyone that it was a white girl... eek

I'm gonna pick up Teena's CD this weekend and i can't wait.I've heard alot of positive reviews. It's great to see her back, doing her thing.I've been a huge fan of hers since 1980,when first heard the songs "I Need Your Lovin" and "Behind The Groove".i love it when old school artists get a second chance.

Poor Teena Marie has more greatest hits/best ofs/collection albums than any artist should have a right too. Seven that are still in print!

I actually already own her "The Ultimate Collection", which sums up nearly all of her big hits but chooses to exclude "Deja Vu" and "Oh La La La" and others. It's impossible for record companies to get it right. It's like math! Now what do I do?

1. Square Biz
2. Behind the Groove
3. If I Were a Bell
4. Portuguese Love
5. Lovergirl
6. Fire and Desire - Rick James
7. My Dear Mr. Gaye
8. I'm a Sucker for You Love
9. Irons in the Fire
10. Young Love
11. I Need Your Lovin'
12. Now That I Have You
13. Latin Lullaby
14. It Must Be Magic
15. Work It

okay I am late joining in, but TEENA is my GIRL!!!!
I love her and have just about every album she put out until Emerald City. I think EC cd grew feet and walked away with my exboyfriend, (THE JERK)
Anyway, most of my stuff is on vinyl. and I don't have a turntable. I have moved 3 times and keep taking my albums with me with no turntable.... LOL

Question; I am thinking about getting a turntable and would like to download my stuff onto my computer.... Do I have to first make CD copies to get it on the computer? Or is there a way to connect your turntable to the PC?

Thanks and keep up the writing for Teena. I thought of her when Prince was talking about how people don't sing and play anymore. I thought does he know about Rick James' protege Teena Marie???? Funny how Prince has all this talent (and Rick James does too, don't get me wrong) and P puts out one hit wonders can't really sing groups and RJ gives us MJ girls and Teena, 2 female acts where the girls could ACTUALLY SING.

My FAVE cut is "Black Rain" from the track's self-titled doubel-CD set bootleg,,,,my, would I pay some mad ass money just to hear this sucka.

Venny, get that compilation it'll get you started. Its not the BEST but its the BETTER OUT THERE(it woulda been the best if they included the Chaka-ode song Aladdin's Lamp and Deja Vu I 've been here b4).

Speaking of my girl, I heard her nod to Chaka in the song "Makaveli Never Lied", where she sings "and Chaka Khan never lied". When I heard that line, I laughed, and ya'll know why nod wink

La Dona is flat out Da Bomb!!. I was pumping this CD on the way to work this morning and damn near had an accident bobbin' my head! Can't wait to see Lady T and the Time in Philly on 5/29.

A few years ago I took my then 12yr old daughter to see Lady T and the Gap Band at Unity Day in Phillym and she's still talking about it. Up to that point she had no idea what real singing was about. However, I think I've created a monster because I can never find any of my "old-school" cd's.

Teena returns in a big way on La Dona. The songs are simply amazing. The duet with Gerald Levert is just off the hook as is the cut with Rick James----just like back in the day.
