Hot Chip Gig tonight According to Metro this is the gig of the week, so get yourselves there!
'ot Chip style themselves as an R'n'Bedroom team, and the fruits of their DIY electro were first witnessed in the form of their debut EP Down With Prince. On this peculiar, wonderful little offering, Alexis Taylor warbled his falsetto over some sarcastic, waterlogged electro-produced via a crappy old computer and a drum made out of a biscuit tin - in a double whammy that was both triumphant homage to the great man of Minneapolis and a sardonic put-down to everyone that has ripped Prince off on record. According to their website www.hotchip.co.uk , this act of ironic musical devotion spawned a movement all of its own known as slapcore, although the extent of this beyond the world of Hot Chip's bedroom has yet to be assesed. Hot Chip excel at improvising when it comes to instruments - their laptop sounds more like a childproof xylophone from Wollworths; the gurgling noise effects sound like they've been cobbled together using kitchen appliences such as electric whisks. It works a treat. Following last week's single Bloc Party, the London band released their debut album Coming on Strong on Moshi Moshi this Monday - a quietly lovely scramble through funkadelic samplescapes, adorned with woozy harmonics and daft lyrics - and celebrate tonight with a headline slot at the Spitz. We think it will be terrific.' The Spitz 109 Commercial Street EC2 £8 020 7392 9032 Liverpool Street/Aldgate East tube The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince
