Tonight's American Idol

What did you guys think? I've always loved LaToya, but after her performaces tonight, I really am rooting for her to win. I like Fantasia a lot, but tonight she didn't do it for me. I think Diana's cute and has a great voice, too, but I really hope LaToya wins.

Who do you think should go? George or Jasmine? Based on these performances, I say it's George's turn to be voted off.

I really, really don't like Diana. I think she can sing, but is maybe better suited to hosting a children's tv show. She'd be great on Sesame Street or something.

George is OK. Just OK.

Jasmine is boring. yawn All the livelong day.

At least the judges finally made the comment that La Toya and Fantasia are the ones to beat.

And while my money's leaning towards La Toya, I prefer Fantasia. She's just more fun, spunkier, more unique I guess. La Toya can sang, but she's just not really my thing.

All's I really care about is that La Toya and Tasia stay...the other 3 can fall in whatever order. They've all had their good and bad moments. They all were FINE tonite...

If I HAD to choose, I'd get rid of Jamsine this week. Only because I thought she looked stoopid up there all casual in her jeans while tryina pull of this swanky big band style. Had she styled herself up, I would have liked her much more tonite...

Yes!!!

That was beautiful, wasn't it?

She is unique, and that's why I like her better than Latoya, 'cept Latoya's hair looked really nice.

What kind of attitude does LaToya have?

To me she just comes of as an arrogant and non-chalant person (at least she did on that sit-down interview special they had last week)...as if she knows she can sing (which she can), but she just doesn't move me like Fantasia.

Latoya looks somewhat like Toni Braxton used to.

FANTASIA FANTASIA FANTASIA

She has passion, and it shows. The song she sang to her daughter was better than any ballad I've heard in a long while. And it is quite a feat for someone to do that live.

It's fine if LaToya doesn't move you, but now that she is showing a little personality to the public she gets the "arrogant" or "attitude" label. Not just from you but I've read on other boards. Yeah she's confident, but I don't think she's demonstrating more than that. I'll see tonight. She is her own person and doesn't react the same way as everybody else. Here I go getting racial, but basically if you combine all the reality tv shows from Real World to Survivor to American Idol, and The Apprentice, either blacks on those shows are characterized as having attitudes because they are too boisterous, confrontational, or reactionary. On the other side there are blacks who aren't like that or display that on tv, and they are bascially ignored, deemed as boring or lacking personality, and viewers try to look for something that either isn't there or misinterpreted because it is not obvious. I'm not picking on you specifically Okaypimpn...basically reacting to what I've read for the past few months and even years not only here but other boards, and general discussions. When it comes to black representation on these type of shows, blacks are either really despised or ignored. Not to justify the negative representation, or stating facts, just expressing what I think seems to happen.

As for AI, I am rooting for LaToya, initially because of the Bay Area bias, but she can really sing and that can't be denied, which it wasn't. I definitely want the both of them in the top 2 or 3. I'm really estatic because it's disco night and Donna Summer will be the guest judge.

I hear ya, funkylsistah. thumbs up!

I dunno, I'm usually for the underdog anyway. lol While a lot of people are praising LaToya (whom again, you can't deny the girl's skills), there are others that just seem to overlook the other awesome vocalists such as Fantasia and even Jennifer Hudson (IMO).

To me, there's nothing really special about LaToya's voice and judging from the way she came across last week (perhaps it was a bad day...I dunno), I personally wouldn't vote for her. confused

But nevertheless, like Sly says..."Different strokes for different folks and so on and so on and scooby-dooby doo" music

Fantasia definitely has a style that can cross various genres, and that would be more to her advantage in terms of airplay than LaToya. I think the big band eppy really brought LaToya out, it was her shining night.
The only disadvantage I see for both of them is that the judges rave so much about them, that many voters automatically want to support the ones who aren't getting as much love from the judges, and bring out unnecessary negativity. Which is why Jennifer was eliminated, to break up the divas.
