So I eventually bought the Love Below / Speakerbox Outkast cd

Alright. First of all I'm into Funkadelic, Sly...I mean I love all these amazing funky productions that make you groove crazy.

I had heard so much about the Love Below. Man if Prince released that everybody would be saying it is full of fillers. Come on edit your stuff Andre 3000. There are 10 solid excellent tunes on the love below. Why did he have to add all these useless tracks that are going nowhere ? It is a shame because these guys are definetely talented. They've got skills. They can play jazz, funk, rock, go all over the place.

I just hope they won't let themselves be too influenced by this hip hop culture which consist of coming up with a few good tunes and filling the rest of the cd with useless tunes. Yyou know what I mean...always the same beat, song structure going nowhere, weak melodies and weird sounds used all over the place that are supposed to hide the poor song writing and make you see as someone innovative.

As much as I appreciate The Love Below, I'm sorry it is nowhere near my Stevie wonder's, James Brown's, Sly's, Clinton's and Prince's classics.

I totally agree.

She Lives In My Lap is a pretty weak song, only notable for sounding a little Princely a la Dorothy Parker.

Love In War springs to mind as another weak one....and even Happy Valentine's Day, which I like just sounds UNFINISHED, like a lot of the Love Below. Either unfinished or excessive.

By the way, this thread doesn't belong in the Prince forum.

Well I'm not pissed at all. I would be very pleased to see someone as good as Miles, Prince, Sly or Stevie turning up ! (the only one in my opinion who is a great artist like the other ones I named above is TTDA).

I just think Love Below is far from being consistent and yes...contains many fillers. But man Andre is very talented. Do not get me wrong.

what shouldve been left off of Love below?

Hey Ya is off key 4 me
Prototype

Behold A Lady

Life And Times Of Andre Benjamin

that song with Norah Jones..4got the name of it.

Otherwise the rest is classic

I mean Vibrate is just a perfect ending.... She Lives In My lap is classic Camille / Sign O The Times material bootleg sounding, Happy Valentines day is strangely funky and of hand

then ya got Draculas Wedding that's dope..and part of the story

She's Alive sad and thought provoking, just as much as Love & War

Interlude.... omg IS SO COOL!

Roses is a nice cut...

The album is almost flawless except for those title above, but because of the musicianship and basically being true and funky..it is a classic to me.

The Love Below is ace, but with the exception of the excellent Ghetto Musick, Speakerboxxx is a total coaster

Well I respect your opinion and taste. But I still don't think it is a classic at all. But they have the potential to write a whole classic cd one day for sure. They are real talented and skilled musicians.

Sure. Leave off "Hey Ya" that was only the biggest hit of 2003 and keep Draculas Wedding disbelief

And Behold a Lady is the hardest beat on Dres disk. Whatever man.

Although I haven't listened to the album in ages (and I still like it), and don't believe it's some earth-shattering masterpiece (like the flood of threads in this forum would have you believe when it was new), a song like "Hey Ya" doesn't take long to become an annoyance. And Andre can't really sing worth a damn, quite frankly he struggles at some points to reach notes he has no business trying to get to. Oh well, at least Pharrell's "singing" makes Andre sound a wee bit more decent than he is.
