LL Cool J was my first concert. Back when "I'm bad" and "I need love" were his hits. "Rock the Bells" was another fav of mine. Whodini opened up for them and I thought they were the best dancers when they did the "cabbage patch" to "One Love".

Wow -- I gotta say thanks to all of you for the memories! I remember seeing UTFO in concert back when 'Roxanne Roxanne' came out (hey -- I was only fifteen, and I actually went to see Jesse Johnson's Revue, who gave a great show!). I remember working with a DJ in college, watching crowds go crazy when Rodney O's 'Everlasting Bass' was played.

There's not much to add -- you guys mentioned most of my favorites. Let me think:

Audio Two - 'Top Billin' (nuff said)
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
MC Shy D - 'Gotta Be Tough' (gotta love the Earth, Wind & Fire sample)
Stetsasonic - In Full Gear (an actual hip-hop band, this 1988 album featured 'Sally' and 'Talkin' All That Jazz'; two of the members of this group later co-founded the Gravediggaz)
A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels... (their jazzy, funky, sample-heavy debut; I still play this one sometimes while I eat 'chicken-chicken-chicken' )

"Straight Out The Jungle" - Jungle Brothers (some great songs on here - I'll House You just sounds better than ever before. (Listened to it today in case you hadn't guessed)

"Colors Orignial Motion Picture Soundtrack" - Back in '88 this was the best compilation around. Still sounds dope!

"Electro" albums on Streetsounds in the UK - a genius compilation series only let down in it's dying days. Early volumes included the likes of Newcleus, Captain Rock, The B-Boys, Hashim & Davy DMX. It's all good!

"Mantronix" - first album flows like a river.

"Back To The Old School" - Just Ice. The O.G. his badself.

"Schooly D" - Schooly D - Even with the Prince dis!
and finally (and how could I forget!)

"Wild Style Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" - real old school stle, just brings tears to my eyes!

All you need is GRANDMASTER FLASH.

All the rest is gravy.

Pick up a copy of "The Official Adventures of..." or his latest mix comp release. Anyone who can make Nu Shooz sound HOT is a damn genius.
