IS THIS THE FUTURE OF FILE SHARING? TTD'S ANGELS AND VAMPIRE'S

just downloaded some of the tracks from terence trent d'arbys new album and he is using a very interesting file sharing program called weedshare.
You can freely download the songs and listen to them 3 times,
the 4th time you're asked to buy it. If you want to buy a song use the Weed software to do so.
The process is easy —it's a 720kb download and it comes with a free $5 account balance to get started.

Then you may even resell them and Sananda gets 50%, you receive 20%, the person who shared the file with you gets 10%, and the person who shared the file with that person gets 5% of the sale price.
Weed collects 15% for processing.

make money from sharing music files!!!! sounds like a great idea to me.

I have 2 say, up until recently, Sananda kinda left me cold. I respected him as an artist, but he never really did anything 4 ME per se.

I downloaded his recent album and was increadibly impressed - not only in the quailty of the music, and how he seems 2 have dropped the ego of his past, but his generosity and trust in his fans. I made a donation, and I intend on checking this out too - weedshare sounds an AMAZING idea.

...Good on him!
thumbs up!

This sounds like a fantastic idea. Maybe the best news for artists and fans I've ever heard.

well, that's debatable, lol. the music is fantastic, i think, but his ego is still as alive and well as ever. my last night in philadelphia (before moving to chicago) was spent with my best friend at a ttd show at the troc (formally the trocadero). he was a little prima donna, lol. people i know who work at the venue had the worst things to say about him...not to mention the opening acts were dropped because he was so late arriving he had to use their performance time to do his soundcheck. it just got worse from there.

yeah, the music is as good as ever...as his ego is as big as ever, lol!

Well if someone would crack it, he/she would steal not only from Sananda but from his/her own wallet as well coz then they can't make any money with it anymore huh? cool

actually it's really easy.

you just need to open a wave editor like cool edit, make sure your sound settings are set up to record your wave volume and play the track with the wave editor open and recording and VOILA! you have three new songs for free.

sorry sananda! you shouldn't let us be able to play them 3 times before buying!

Sure there are always ways to record around it, but you miss a few points here:

- with those files you can't use Weed to make some money for yourself as well
- Weed gives you $5 free to start with, so it wouldn't have costs you a dime this time, you can have them for free already. Weed is pretty new so most people have that bonus
- artists, independent or otherwise, also need to make a living in order to keep on doing what they and you love best: creating the music you like

Is it really so hard to give some respect in return to artists? Especially to one who has been very generious with giving us all for free for download a full album and another 12 songs?

Weed is a system that rewards people who respect artists rights, it's obvious you don't.

Uh, he was just discussing a way to crack it. Didn't claim he had, but it's probably implied. And the system doesn't really reward people who respect artists' rights, it rewards people who once (or still) file share, no?

Well didn't he say sorry? To me that seems he did it already.

The system DOES reward people who share Weed-files.
This is how it works:
if you have bought a file, it will be unlocked on your computer to play and even burn to cd.
The files are encoded to play 3 times on your computer, so if you i.e. share your unlocked file on P2P programs the same happens, namely it can be played 3 times for free and the 4th time they are also asked to buy it.
When that person then buys it: you get your 20% in the frist level, 10% in the 2nd level (if that person who bought it from you sells it also again) and then 5% for the third level.

Could I explain it clearly?
If you want to know more, at www.weedshare.com at their FAQ is a very bright explanation.

AND THE ARTIST GETS 50% at ALL TIMES!

What I meant was that it rewards people who are used to file-sharing - and those are people who don't respect artists' rights. , no? You don't respect artists' rights if you're using a P2P network, but that's where you're supposed to go to sell your wares - to a bunch of other people who don't respect artists' rights, either, since they're busy using P2P!. But now they're supposed to be honest and "purchase" these tracks from someone who was supposed to supply them for free (namely the uploader). SO it only works to perpetuate file-sharing, since buyer and seller have to be exchanging using a P2P program. Expect these tracks to be cracked and available by the first or second "sale". It's a very faulty system.

Not necesarry, people always love and loved to share music and that will never change.
In earlier days we made cassettes for eachother too.
Every artist will be taped one way or the other, that's okay as long as their original work also get sold.

Before there was just no system yet where you could share your files and at the same time respect/pay for artists rights and make some money while doing so.

Yeah, it's just legalized bootlegging, but the problem is that once these tracks are cracked and made available on P2P, they can spread like wildfire, while maintaining the quality of the original transfer - unlike a sub-par 2nd-gen tape made for a friend, for example.

Oh, you wrote more in the meantime wink

Well Weedfiles can also be sold through websites, not only P2P.
And as said, there never was another system within the file-sharing programs that made it possible to be "honest".

The future of file-sharing is changing. People are already getting sued, P2P programs have been shut down and others changed their services already; instead of getting the file there for free you now can buy them instead.

I think Weed offers a great answer to keep on file-sharing and in the meantime the artists get payed as well all who help to distribute/share the file.

With "taped one way or the other" I referred to the nowadays techniques wink
Sure, and the same will happen when a cd is copied to your pc or other cd and shared then.
Weed offers a new revolution and I like it.
